    Hello

Can anyone recommend me some garage doors?
    Any brands better than others?
What to look for when purchasing a new garage door?
Also can garage doors actually perform as an anti-theft? (meaning is it hard to break garage doors if someone intend to do so?)

    Thank you in advance!!!

I guess it all depends on how you want the doors to perform. I just built a pole barn to put my cars and memorabilia in, and I didn't want to see the usual ugly overhead door tracks cluttering up the interior, so I built traditional carriage doors. I can't seem to get the pictures to upload, but you can see them here: http://hometown.aol.com/damaadams7/polebarn.html

My door's Clopay too. I went for the best I could get regarding insulation. No hurricane-grade doors needed in Toronto, though. :p

This house is in Whistler, (BC) Canada, on the mountain of the ski village where the 2010 olympics will be.

A real estate agent told me that this house was worth about $15 million dollars. (Complete with Granite Garage doors, elevator, waterfall, and infinity pool overlooking the mountains.)

I didn't get too much info on the garage doors, but they are definitely unique!

What kind of doors are you seeking? Are you looking for traditional carriage-style doors made from wood or modern-era doors made from stamped steel or dare I say this word: "vinyl"?

I'd be happy to share with you my experience. I just installed carriage doors (see below) in my "back" garage.

I'm reviving this thread because I'm doing a garage make-over.

Part of the project will be new, upgraded overhead doors. I'm looking for something that will give me maximum clear height for installing a lift, so the tracks need to be as high as possible, the motor needs to be wall mounted and no lights or other obstructions between the tracks. They should operate as quietly as possible. I'm interested in doors with translucent panels but I've had no experience with them, so I welcome your comments.

I've done many searches but there are so many products that I think it's better to just get suggestions and real life experiences from others.

    Thanks.

    Jack.

Garage doors are ugly. So pick something with muted colors that blend into the rest of the house.

I agree, Dale, but fortunately ours are not visible from the street, or even by our neighbors due to topography, site configuration, foliage, etc. I'll try not to do ugly, though.;)
