I haven't found a place I really like for Sushi yet. A bunch of places are hole in the walls when it comes to Sushi, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Was at Umami tonight. That place is good and has other stuff too. There's Hime, Ozumo, and Blowfish that are all good. Zushi Puzzle used to be great, but last time I went there it was disappointing, not sure if it's changed.

Ozumo is good. Sushi Rock on Polk or Geary are ok. Kabuto and Irake on Geary/15th are good. Ebishu on 9th / Irving is fine. Any particular area you are looking for?

Tanuki on California and 5th Avenue. Very authentic.
The owner, chief and even the waitresses are all Japanese.

Try Skipjack Sushi on Union and Octavia. It's our favorite neighborhood sushi joint. Reasonable price for excellent quality sushi. THen after dinner, you can go around the corner for organic frozen yogurt for desert.

I know some guys love Blowfish here (myself included, as I am addicted to the Tuna Tartar Pyramid) and some think it is overpriced and not that great. I will tell you this......

I took the President of our company's Japanese Division (he is obviously from Japan) to Blowfish for dinner and he said it was the best sushi he has ever had in the U.S. The dude weighs all of 140 lbs (maybe) and I swear he put down like 6 orders of sushi along with 4 orders of rolls. And more sake than I could believe.

It was like watching Kobyashi eat hot dogs.....

Anyway, his ensdorsment was good enough for me.....

Ariake if it is still around. Located on Geary and I want to say 16th. The owner, Jin Sun, used to be one of the sushi chef's at Ebisu's (another good place on 9th and Irving) a while back ago and opened up his own place.

Chaya on the Embarcadero has good sushi and what I really like is while you are snacking you can order a real meal without leaving the table.

Traditional Japanese elements with a contemporary flavor.
    Must-trys:
    Hamachi stuffed sh!take
Oyster souffle (served on a beautiful flaming bed of sea salt)

...this is a recommendation from a friend. I will not be held responsible for anything less than a good time here :D

Another vote for Shimo Sushi on 25th/Clement. I frequent it quite often and always walk away with a smile on my face- and that's not just because of the sake. Other good sushi spots in SF include Ebisu on 9th/Irving, and Ace Wasabi on Chestnut/Scott.

Finally had Ozumo... good Sushi at an unreasonable price.

If you're going there it's more for the atmosphere than sushi. You can definitely get the same quality sushi at other places and pay A LOT less.

$180 for 2 people (including 1 drink), and my girlfriend barely eats sushi.

I'd go back if I was in the mood, but if I want to pig out, probably not the best choice.

^ I think the fish at Ozumo easily justifies the price. They've got interesting appetizers and rolls, but that's not what we come there for. They have access to some of the rarest and freshest cuts of fish, that you simply don't find at most Bay Area restaurants. Ask for their special fish- the otoro was just perfect!!!

Sushi-ran is Sausalito. (5 miles from SF). You can even find a safe parking place on the street. This is the best Sushi in the Bay Area, if not the USA. The cooked food is fantastic as well. It will become your favorite. I will not eat sushi anywhere else. Check it out. Its best to get a reservation, but you can get there when they open and usually get a seat.

I used to go there once a month when I was living with my sisters and girlfriend (now wife). We lived on California St. and 9th/10th so we'd just walk over. I can't believe it's still there and IIRC, that's about where California and Commonwealth diverge so it may not be listed as being on California St.; can anyone confirm?

Regardless, it was one of our favorites.
