Wanna be Alonshole has the same problems there as his other teams. Would be interesting indeed.

The prospect of Fernando Alonso moving to BMW-Sauber at the end of 2007 has stepped up a notch.

Both the Hinwil-based team's boss, and current BMW racer Nick Heidfeld's manager, have refused to rule out the scenario when speaking to the Cologne newspaper Express.

With Alonso's relationship with McLaren seemingly at a new low after the Hungarian race, speculation has named both Renault and rising Grand Prix power BMW as possible destinations for the disaffected Spaniard.

"Since our fusion with Sauber, we have increasingly become a more interesting place for other top drivers," BMW-Sauber principal Theissen acknowledged.

He added: "For me, the question is not whether we can offer the world champion enough, but in which configuration we can best make the next step ahead."

It has been widely reported that, presently without a valid contract for 2008, Germany's Nick Heidfeld was the endangered current driver for BMW-Sauber.

Express, however, suggests that the 30-year-old has now inked a lucrative deal for next year, leaving Robert Kubica more likely to exit if Alonso does join the team.

Heidfeld's manager Werner Heinz seems open to the idea of pairing his charge alongside twice drivers' title winner Alonso in 2008 and beyond.

"Why shouldn't a Heidfeld drive with an Alonso?" he wondered. "With the performances Nick delivers at the moment, I would have no worries about that."

If Renault gets their car together I could see Fred going back there. Him and Flavio would have a great time together.

I think it's kind of messed up Heidfeld would say something like that considering Kubica is still his teammate. Not much respect being shown for Robert imo.

Huh? What did Heidfeld say? It was Heidfelds manager and Mario Theissen that were quoted in the article, no mention of Heidfeld quotes were made. The title suggested Nick would be "open" to driving next to Alonso, but what is Nick supposed to say "absolutely I would never drive next to Fernando".... and what then if BMW has to choose? Nick would be sent packing. Of course he is open to driving next to Fernando. It's no insult to Kubica to say that - none at all.

As for Theissen and Nick's manager making these statements - of course they are. Sometimes when things are said that are untrue, they sort of become true if they are repeated enough. Alonso said he doesnt know if he will finish his contract at McLaren. Undoubtedly this means "hey Ron, start getting on the Alonso wagon or I'm outta here, got it?". Of course McLarens public response is "well if he wants to leave, thats his choice". Behind closed doors, Alonso wants to stay just like Ron wants him to stay. No tabloid journo can let it sit at that though - they have to divine where he will go. So we have the tabloid journos saying he's off to BMW or back to Renault. Of course, BMW would love to have an Alonso on their team - a 2-time WDC and one of the best drivers on the grid. So they will of course say that they would like to have him and that they could put together a package to bring him to BMW. Basically it's saying "hey if you wanna come talk to us about a drive, lets talk". They are letting him (and everyone) know the door is open.

As for Nick's manager - of COURSE he will say he'd like to see Alonso next to Nick. What is he going to say "well, Nick isnt that good and Alonso will beat him easily, so we're a bit concerned". Of course not. Like a used car salesman, he's going to tell you that what he's got is the best out there, and he will put it up against any other car without hesitation.

Furthermore, it would be a win-win for Nick. If Alonso is much faster, then it just confirms that Alonso is really good, which people already knew. It also would not be unexpected. However if Nick runs even with him, or beats him, then Nick is batman, and he is going to want to either parlay that into a high dollar contract with BMW, or he's going to be off talking to Ferrari/McLaren about a drive.

None of this is a surprise, none of it is insulting to Kubica, and none of it is even news, IMO.

It would be a pity to see Kubica replaced by that moron.
The Pole worked hard to get where he is now, and he definetly deserves it.

Nick has proved he certainly isn't shy when it comes to passing Alonso on the track.
FA could well find himself beaten by yet another team mate if he switches to BMW.

I have to believe Mclaren would want to be paid mucho$ to allow Alonso out of his contract before the end of 2009. I'm not sure if either BMW or Flavio using Telefonica's cash (according to the Speed report) would be willing to secure his services for such a premium. But if he does make the move to either team, there's going to be one extremely happy and quick uncontracted Polish chap I know of. Aside from being one of LH's chums, I doubt his asking price would be much more than DelaRosa's. To be with Mclaren, he'd probably take a pay cut regardless. He'd be a perfect No.2 to Sara's boyfriend and one can guess Lewis would be touting him in much the same way Senna did with Dumfries back in Lotus days. The only thorn; RD might go for Nico.
