nice reply, you give us hope of using the murcie as an everyday car. most people i speak to say wait for an 'Audi-fied' V12 from Lambo, but that would be 3-4 years away. I am also a 'value-investor', so i don't mind having a cheapskate reputation to get a second hand car, which would make the wait another 1-2 years longer. so i timed it with a modena so when the COE expires, it would be prime time to shop around then. oh well...

I like your spirit. let me know how i can help. you all seem like a very nice bunch of down to earth people. i heard from some people that there are official auto-related decent activities, and then there are unofficial dubious activities. it's just interesting to hear all these alternative lifestyle stories, most of which are urban legends i am sure. anyway, nice to have people with a common interest bonding together. you seem like you have been a member for sometime and know a lot of people and the club's history.

Thanks. this is helpful. i don't feel alone now. yes, car did die on me.... on the CTE at peak hour and i was on the fast lane. complete embarrassment and cause a major jam. engine was so hot the number plate bend and fell off. paint here exhaust peeled off + engine smoke. scary, embarrassing and frustrating. that was literary my first 24 hour experience with Ferrari. oh, well, i really hope the car will be fixed up nicely. so far already sent to HSM 3 times. they can only fix one problem at a time and still waiting for a new gear box. fuel not burning well and lumda sensor problem. oh well, the bright side is at least i am still alive! hee hee.

yeah, it's not like i wanna cut corners... HSM can be real busy at times. sent car in and they only had time to check it 8 working days later. i picked up on 10th working day, and had to send it back less than 2 days of driving. maybe they need some competition. heard a former mechanic might be teaming up with others to set up an alternative service centre.

Ed, is that your car @ Chong's place? I dropped my 964 there for air-con as well & I know the previous owner. He spent over S$20K with HSM last year on a major job which is a good thing. Saw that the idling is having problem, running too rich, puffing a lot of fuel vapour from the exhaust. Could be sensors, MAF or ECU etc.

I didn't hear anything about an Audi-V12 lambo? Don't think they need it since it's been doing very well for the 6.2 to 6.4 & that will affect the branding on the flagship model. The flagship needs to remain exclusive, the Gallardo was created to keep the company afloat so that needs to be profitable, simpler & faster on production=lower cost.

They cast & machine everything in-house for the V12s since day one & even painted their cars in-house until a lack of space when they contracted a Modena factory to produce & paint the CF body panels. I don't know about the chassis though while electronics are out-sourced which is a good thing!

Eg. your Modena aluminium chassis was produced by a Modena specialist contractor then sent to Maranello for assembly but still Italian.

The chassis, body & (engine?) of Gallardo is produced in an Audi plant from Ingolstadt, Germany then sent to St.Agata for assembly & trim. Which is why they are very well built.

I always wonder how many Modenas will be COed

I am impressed, both by your knowledge of cars and by your perceptive eyes. yes, Chong has my modena, HSM said it will take sometime to fix aircon and it's hot stuffy to ride without aircon, so urgent was needed. plus the price is 10% of what HSM quoted. i rode with windows down to avoid suffocation and the Evo next to me was just laughing at me. damn.

yes, people tell me the fuel is rich and car just doesn't feel right. a volvo station wagon out-sprint me at the traffic lights... yes, the Evo guy must still be laughing. damn.

hey, would love to ride in your murcie. saw a red one in Japan. nice. the green and orange is gorgeous. yellow is classic. what colour is yours? paddle or manual?

The jobs @ HSM workshop is overloaded & they're supposed to get new lifts & squeeze some extra space. I think when the new Maseratis start to arrive, that'll increase their workload.

You can call Ben who's now with AutoKulture @ Changi. He was with HS for 20yrs but I'm not sure if they have the soft/hardware to read 360s but with his experience & the kind of cars they do I'm sure everything can be arranged for a price :D

Bro, thanks for the compliments but all I can do is read, read & read but I did make a DIY trip to visit the factories recently so that helped a little.

Tell me about aircon! My 964 has been airconless for a week & I drove in the rain....ever know what mobile sauna is like :D but that serious overheating of yours sound real bad & I thought mine was. You'd risk fire if the fuel vapour catches a burnt cig butt or drip over hot cats! I would suggest to solve it before any driving, please flatbed it to workshop.

U can't blame HS for the aircon price. The factory don't sell little parts but the entire system while Chong can do best to modify or rectify but make sure he allows you to use the exact panel functions. What I worry is 360 has a complex system with climate sensor etc.

Hello, some of those Volvos can be T5 or R spec, don't play play. One R was following me just now.

Mine is dark titanium grey & manual.

you really know the previous owner? doctor? how is he like? really felt like i got ripped off. car was clearly in bad shape at the point of sale. worst thing is he already got an offer to export it but for an extra $500 bucks, he chose to sell me a lemon. no wonder he didn't want to spend much time with me face to face. i worked with agent on the deal.

Yes, my army boss as well ;) don't know about the condition of the car & since I know him, can't comment. Didn't you get a proper PPI? A must for expensive cars & more so for an exotic. Speaking of which I didn't even do for my G & M but Mel will look after my deals or he better :D

Since now it's under your stewardship, you can't pass this lemon around. Let's work it ground up & sought out the issues or export it!

P.S. My lemons taught me a lot of lessons.

Sometimes, they just want your attention ;) I have my 964 for just 2 weeks & aircon died (no big deal) but then less than 400km & I got a bad puncture on Sat. A bl**dy 4" brass rod went thru my rear & got me stranded for an hour (I had an Alfa, clocked 23K km & not a single issue with only two servicing bills costing less than S$500). Still need to sort out the steering column & a little oil leak from cam seals but when the top comes down & I go cruising, everything's forgiven :) My earlier 911 was a bigger nightmare. Wife says I don't have affinity with Porsche :(

Yeah, i guess i am too trusting. no PPI, no test drive. signed check on sight of the car. i am new to this so i didn't know what is conventional practice. plus he is a doctor, so integrity was assumed, perhaps wrongly so now looking in hindsight. i forgot i did read lots of strange modest cases in dodgy clinics but i thought that was more the aberration with the medical profession and not the norm. ah-yo.

yeah, most of my friends told me not to talk about this experience as it would eliminate any chance of me selling the car. well, i totally believe in not passing on this hot potato and in the worst case, just scrap the car for its paper value. i won't sell out my conscious and sell a lemon to another person, not even to an exporter. it just wouldn't be fair. anyway, it's a piece of art and can sit nicely in my garden, perhaps put a water fountain on the top with sprinklers on the wheels.

that brings me back to my fascination with the murcie. God must be telling me to turn on the sprinklers on the beautiful modena and go for the masochistic murcie. i heard there are a few on the market. but you are the only owner a know with wisdom to impart. others have never driven the murcie but warned me about reliability and blind spots. One of the reasons i chose the modena over the gallardo is boot space (i know, silly me). the murcie looks like it has lots more boot space. another plus.

Curious. you seem to have a garage larger than the size of Ngee Ann City. Could never quite understand people who stay at Ridley Park (Tommie) and Dalvey (Ivan), who own so many gorgeous cars. don't you always just drive the murcie plus a sedan when you have passengers to ferry and the other cars get neglected?

    BTW, the 964 is gorgeous!

edward, sorry to hear abt your modena. i had a 355 as well that came with its own share of problems. unfortunately, these irritations seem to be more prevalent with italian marques. i have even came across quite a few cases of even the new F430 breaking down.still, the allure and driving pleasure of such cars have never failed to draw buyers despite the "more problematic" drawbacks.

having said that, take it as an "initiation process" into the brotherhood of exotic car ownership. IMHO, i dun think the previous owner was out to screw anyone but merely trying to sell his car thru an agent. so to cast a doubt on his integrity is being a little harsh. i do not know this previous owner is but am sure he's gonna be fuming mad to read your posts.

so to keep this forum friendly, you might wanna take refuge in the fact that many of us here have gone thru exactly what you are experiencing rite now. you should take your car to HSM or one of the other better specialists, rectify the problems and soon you will be smiling from ear to ear when the exhaust screams as you red-line the car...good luck!

Fair comment and point taken. I did buy my other car from a doctor too and he has become my best friend, hence my naive behaviour with the second deal. But after having thought about it again, i still believe there was some misdeed in this transaction because of the fact some representations were outright lies, eg. "aircon no gas, don't worry just pump gas - when clearly it's leaking", when changing gears there is a loud click sound and jerk - he claimed to have held the car for several years, it would be hard not to have noticed the difference, plus Sam from HSM told me this car was labeled a hazard months ago because the brakes were faulty yet the owner chose not to rectify the problem. there were also certain verbal promises like touching up paint and covering the cost, but it's ok, i did it on my own account anyway cause I don't hold grudges. Life is too short. We should all be happy.

I am still happy to have joined the club and will look forward rather than backward. The past is the past and i am sure the doctor has his reasons for being less transparent. I can't wait to get the car repaired and do a re-match on that Volvo station wagon and that s******ing Evo!
