What makes you think Chevy V8 in the Ultima is suddenly more reliable? Or that the Ultima is a better car to drive every day?

Chevy's LSX series is known to be pretty reliable and able to be built up, while retaining most of it's reliability. If you think four turbos and a W16 engine are reliable you're a joke. The more parts you have, the more that is likely to break or go wrong.

    Have you driven either??

I think the larger issue, as has been stated, is the DOT/EPA mandates. Speculation of a rebodied Murci or Bugatti sounds w/n the realm of reality, however, this would be coming from one of the largest automobile conglomurates in the world, not a design house or a independent coach house. As such, the only way that I can imagine such a car not being re-certified would be through the use of a federalized car's VIN i.e. buy a Murci....send it back to our in-house tuning division and bada-bing heres your new Lambo XYZ. I just do not think think as a full fledged manufacturer that this would be acceptable to them, their clients, or the regulators. The next issue is the EPA. Assuming rumors are true and the new beast has a big bump in h.p. or performance, the logic suggests copious engine mods (to current engine) which may or may not meet current regs. New engine, new certification. Or existing engine.....much, much lighter car. The Bugatti engine, already a fully certified engine, would seem to be a good doner candidate. The Bugatti chassis obvioulsy can handle the power and as a combination it is a known factor. Seems to me a rebodied Bugatti is the most economicable way to pull this off. From that point, simply place the marker lights, head/tail lamps, fuel fill, and other bits in accordance w DOT regs. Use one donor car for side, front, and rear crash test. It should be strong enough for such. Grossly simplified view point, but its my take none-the less. Oh, and with all the "go green" push, I can't help but to think something we all may be missing is somehow wrapped in their surprise.

I didn't say the W16 was. However, even I doubt the forever-lasting reliability I see Chevy fans preach.

Do you even need to? I think it's pretty obvious which car would be better suited for driving every day.

What are you talking about? the Veyron looks like a Giant Cockroach. Atleast the Ultima looks like a LMP race car with an orginal inovativte design where as...

The SS/C is a wannabe Lambo Diablo while the Mosler looks like a Mclaren F1 replica :D. Oh and the S7 is a complete wannabe Mclaren F1 at that.

Id like to see somebody drive the Veyron on a daily basis without some serious mechinaical failure going on.

What about the maintaince cost of a Veyron? iam sure thats more than what some folks make in a year.

The Chevy small block is a bullproof engine nuff said, I could put it in anycar and it will run like a champ.

And again unlike a production car, a kitcar I could build it anyway I want it to be and still kick a veyrons ass at the track.

Oh crap I hijacked this tread. Lets get back on the topic.

I agree, but personally I prefer that giant cockroach or the Group C prototype looks of the Mosler than the ugly Ultima. And yes, the Saleen is a McLaren F1 wannabe. Millions of years away to be. Bad design, disproportioned, souless, no heritage and tradition, and I'm sorry but any car with a Ford Mustang or Chevy V8 engine is NOT an exotic supercar. Just a poor man's wannabe kit car. Exotic supercars are an european invention and should remain like that. Things like the Ultima or the Saleen shouldn't be admited in the exclusive world of supercars.

Actually I love and respect the Pantera's design and looks. It's the poor man's Countach. It's an icon. But I just don't like its guts. But at least the Pantera has far more soul and style than the Ultima kit car.

We may have someone on this board planning to buy one that is known for driving a lot ;)

True dat, the Ultima also has the whole engine cowl come off so you can change headers and what not without removing the motor. Anybody try to service a Lambo for an endurance race lately? Not happening. Should this 1.6m Lambo show up, it would be a fool's race car. I'd imagine this car would sit in the BS 'supercar" strata where owners go "I have a 1.6m Lambo with 238728746hp, I obviously have nothing to prove to you" then they drive away at street speeds because the only comparison in supercars is on paper and they think that is a good defence... Besides, who has enough money to risk a car over 1m on a track against similar? Even if you really are stinking rich, it makes no sense what so ever. Supercars come out with bs top speeds and numbers on paper taken at perfect conditions at perfect tracks and people just eat that up as fact as the measure of the car. There is no need to make a dreamcar actually perfom beyond some ink on a page.

You think so??? I think it looks like a Corvette with a bunch of crap added to it......IMO if it's not European, it's not worth a second look : ) As far as the Lambo goes........It will be a very special car!!!!!

Well, that narrows the field down a bit! I take it you won't be getting that Shelby Daytona for Christmas? ;)

I say, if it trips your trigger, buy it and to hell with what anyone else thinks! That goes for anything, from a Yugo to a Veyron. You're going to be the lucky (or poor) sod in the driver's seat, so let the others eat cake! If the main purpose for your purchase is to impress friends and strangers then IMHO you've got other character problems to deal with. But if you want to own and drive something simply because that vehicle sets off some sort of spark in you then buy and drive! If someone spends $2 mil on a road rocket and never pushes the boundaries of physics with it, who cares? As long as that person drives it for the sheer love they have for the car, that's all that matters in the end.

I didn’t know who made the engine determined if a car was exotic or not. I guess you do learn something new everyday. A poor mans wannabe kit car, hardly. I take it you don’t like Ford GT40's, Ford GT's, Shelby Cobras, or anything else with an American engine? Thats kinda a bold and ignorant statement. An engine doesnt make or brake a super car.

The Countach was built after the Pantera IIRC so would that mean lambo copied of or the lambo is a poor mans Pantera?

The Ford GT40 is a legend. The Ultima GTR no. It has a great engine, design and soul.

The DeTomaso Pantera was born in 1971 as well as the Countach. And is commonly known as the "affordable" Countach.

For the most part historically, and in my opinion, the Pantera SPANKED the Lambos in every respect other than the "I paid too much for this Italian unreliable piece of junk" category lol

I think it a bit ignorant to just call the Ultima, or Noble a kit car considering their lineage and purpose built nature and if people want to look down on it all the better for the pending humiliation. These cars are as much kit cars as Ferrari's F1 cars. Someone builds the chassis and what not, Ferrari supplies the powerplant and other hardware. "Kit car" makers: Dallara, Penske, Reynard, Panoz.........
