Apparently trump bought 40 Wall St for $8 million in 1995, but I doubt this. Similar to his claim that he once owned the Empire State Building when in fact it was just ownership of a small percentage of the lease. $8 million (if correct) for that building at that time would be a steal.

I don't know many of the building names that I like, but one here in downtown Orlando (only a few high rises, lol) looks good imo. It's the Orange County Courthouse and I think it's only about 25 floors. http://www.consultwebs.com/ncphotos/images/fl/orlando/604/2/occ_73.jpg

I love the Burj Al Arab in Dubai as well. Dubai's skyscrapers in general look amazing.

Here's some shots of the hotel, downtown Dubai, and my personal (and very biased) favorites-- Denver's Skyscrapers. It's not really just one building, but as a whole, I love the Downtown Denver area. Just born and raised here, what can I say? ;)

There are often steals in the NYC market that slip under the table though especially with buildings that are in poor shape that need restoration

Trump can lie about whatever he wants and what he paid for it... but he does own it. He claims its worth over 400 mill now but when he tried to sell it he couldnt get offers more then I think 250 mill so he kept it and leases it out. Sadly on the front in big gold letters it says THE TRUMP BUILDING. Its my goal to buy that building one day and restore it a little bit take some of the gaudy gold trump put all over it.

Dubai is an interesting case in my opinion. They have some amazing modern architecture and some really cool technology in the buildings, but is it seems to lack that actual downtown that a real city needs. Its just so different because they have no space limitations and virtually no monetary limits also so they do some really cool stuff. I really would like to go there in a few years. Its amazing their growth. Denver has a cool skyline no doubt but I happen to be partial to charlotte I wonder why ;)

and the skyline is going to look so different in three or four years lots of stuff going on in charlotte

thanks to eric for the photos (i know you guys wont know but i feel the need to credit him)

Yeah, I was reading up on it. Trump claimed he bought it for $1 million when it really was something like $8 or $9 million and he put a lot of money into restoring it. I guess the market was pretty bad then and I was reading up on how lots of banks were buying up buildings, but then they crashed when other international markets started to collapse. It would be a neat building to own, but maybe it will be a white elephant by that time. ;)

The Chrysler Building looks great, but that's nothing new. It sold for $220 million in '98, but then $300 million for 75% share in '01 (so $400 milllion value total). I can't find many pictures of the interior, but the elevator wood work and marble surrounding look incredible.

One of my favorites is the roof gardens at the Rockefeller center.

theres an excellent modern marvels on the chrysler building... the restoration they did was amazing. Funny thing, if they would have left the building alone in the 60's it would have been in better shape then it was in 1990's when they restored it... all the windows were in perfect shape too whereas the empire state had to have all of theirs replaced. Roc center is a great view.

In the 1970's the chrysler building was bought for only 25 million, but that was during the office slump and it was in rough shape. still a good deal for such an icon

Digman, the last one's kinda low.

If it's about elevation the Hancock Building is the highest place in the US, since the World Trade Centers fell, that you can have a drink and dinner. Never miss when in Chicago. Falcons diving down for pigeons.

I like the Burj Al Arab tower that many people have posted.
I also like the Petronas Tower in Malaysia. I would love to walk across the walkway in between the two buildings and just look out.

Cripes I've gotta find my shots of Hong Kong harbor (though it was harbour back then when the Brits had control :) ).

Still think some of those buildings are the best looking to be found.

ok three posts in a row but whatever... my dad walked across the skybridge while the rest of the building was under construction, I would love to go see them in person. Cesar Pelli designed them and the Bank of America Corporate Center shown above in the Charlotte skyline photos, its the tallest building.

I agree the Petronas Towers are stunning - especially at night when they are lit up like in the photo you posted. I regularly stay in the Mandarin Oriental hotel right next door to the towers and I've been on the skybridge - that's the only part of the building open to the public. Unfortunately I actually found it a bit underwhelming - you only get 10 minutes on the bridge, and the views aren't as good as the views from the KL Tower nearby (at the KL tower, you get to go to the top of the building, which is much higher than the skybridge at Petronas, and it's a circular building so you get a 360 degree view). Theres a lot of development going on around the Petronas Towers at the moment - including an apartment building across the street where each apartment is going to have it's own private swimming pool!

I'm not sure what I would say is my favourite tower in the world, but of the ones I've seen it's definitely the Petronas Towers, though the Chrysler building runs it close. That said I'm looking forward to seeing how the new developments in London turn out - such as the Cheese Grater and the Walkie Talkie.
