Trust you guys to help me with my dilemma. Since there is no F car SUV I was wondering what you would recommend that wouldn’t insult my 355 and 360 in the garage. I need to replace my daily driver, 02 BMW X5 4.6is with 165,000 mi. I want to stay with something that size with comparable performance and feel. At the same time I need something to visit construction sites and haul clients.

    Current contenders:

    Infiniti FX45
    Audi Q7
    BMW X5
    Porsche Cayenne S

Any suggestions will help and please don't pull any punches with gripes.

    Thanks,

For me it would be the Porsche Cayenne, but that new Audi looks good too.

    I would go big; QX56.
We only have 3 in our family but youd be amazed the amount of stuff and # of times weve filled our Armada ( poor mans QX56 ).

Not a fan of the new BMW or Audi A7. I would go for the Porsche Cayenne S. I have one and it is a great car for an SUV.

My wife and I have a beautiful QX56 and we love it. I was a little skeptical at first buying an overgrown datsun, but the experience has been wonderful. Sewell has a great selection and a lot less $$$ than the p-car or bmer + much more room!!!!
    just my .02

+1 for me on the QX56 bandwagon, we bought ours 15 months ago and we love it. Best truck purchase I've ever made for more reasons than I care to type.

If I were buying performance, I'd go look at a Jeep Cherokee SRT with the Hemi. It's a great looking SUV and you'd have ~$20k left over to buy another toy.

You didn't mention it in the options, but what about a Touareg V-10 turbo-diesel? Comparable cost to the Cayenne S and much more powerful and better fuel economy. Granted, it doesn't have the badge/name of the other options, but is a decent vehicle.

I would go for the Cayenne S or Turbo with what you mentioned...But before you buy I would check out the Cadillac if you are not concerned with mpg, definitely is the most comfortable SUV I have ever driven hands down.

The FX is an amazing machine. I'd highly recommend if it weren't for Infiniti's poor service dept. I drove the FX & Cayenne Turbo S... both felt equally satisfying, the FX coming in at half the price.

I traded my 01 X5 for the 08 Range Rover Sport. If you want more performance, you can get it supercharged. Same engine and much more as the Jaguar. So far it's been great.

Performance and SUV don't belong in the same sentence unless you are talking about hauling stuff or towing stuff. My 2007 Expedition Limited is fantastic for either. Power fold flat third row seats is unique in its class and rated to tow 9200 lbs. I'm on my thrid Expedition now, one from each of the last 3 generations.

Of course even that ran out of steam when I recently bought an enclosed trailer. Now I'll be pulling with a 2001 F-250 PowerStroke Diesel. 505 ft lbs of torque! Give me a call should you ever need to be pulled from the mud at the construction site. :)
