When I use a ziplock bag I have these pillow looking things I found. You dunk them in distilled water and they absorb it and then keep the humidity in line without leaking water out. It also has a little bag with holes in it you put it in just to make sure water doesn't leak out. When they start to get dry you can mist them or dunk again.

It won't fit in my hardside case though so I can't use it in that.

In the Bahamas I smoked, a Upmann Limited Edition (one of my all time favorites), a Cohiba Siglo VI, a Partagas Lusitania, and a Monte A.

God I had a great trip...

Getting a bunch more cigars but don't really have any place to keep them. For now I have just left them in the boxes but really need to figure out way to store them so I can more or less not worry about them until I get back to the US. Any advice? I could probably get a humidor but I wouldn't always be able to look after it regularly.

Is there much risk of them getting moldy if they sit in a tupperware container for a while with one of those?

I've never seen it happen. The longest I've left any in a tupperwear has been about 6 months but many, many people use tupperwear and rubermaid containers as their only humidor. Coolers make good large humidors too. Head over to cigarweekly.com and look through the forums, there are some really neat "coolerdors" over there. Something like that may work better for you as it is more rugged.

There really isn't a need for wooden humidors any more. The cedar doesn't really do anything to the cigars, it was used to regulate moisture as it will hold moisture to a certain extant. Now that we have beads and automated devices to regulate moisture all you need is something airtight that will not put any odors into the cigars.

Sounds like a good way to do it.... I'm probably gonna send a few boxes back to the US when the opportunity arises and they will sit around for a couple months before I get back.

Mark, I used a Tupperware box for a LONG time. They work pretty well. Also, if your boxes are shrink wrapped and you have not opened them they should be fine for several months. Remember that is how they are shipped and stored on the shelves of the store so they are made for that. Other wise there are bigger versions of the box that Tyler sent me you could get sent to you. Or you could build one yourself out of an old NVG box or a pelican case. If you want I will look around for one here that you can have. We have a good selection of "battle damage" boxes.....

Tupperware works good as long as there is a loose seal- no mold issues. I use one temp. from time to time. If kept in a stable place, you can also fill a cup with 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of salt. The salt will not fully dissolve, but the combo will keep the humidity a constant 70%.

Had my first new release Bolivar Gold medal last night. Beautifully presented cigars in the gold foil. After reading some others reviews I was expecting a harsh, tannic youtful cigar maybe something like a young RyJ Caz' where the strength and power overwhelms all other nuances and flavors.

Well this was not the case at all. Just like every other 06' cigar I have had these are good to go now. No harshness, no tannins just a beautiful full flavored earthy and somewhat complex bolivar. The complexity and different flavors are definately there but I agree with others that it will take some time for them to fully reveal themselves. I would say it was medium strength not overpowering the way a punch SS#2 or a RyJ Caz' can be.

Just a perfect draw, not too loose not to tight. You can tell these are high quality by the lovely redish brown wrappers and perfect construction. Burned very well with no touch ups needed. No doubt these will only get better with time..but I would rate a soild 93 right now.

Just had a Por La Ranaga and a Hoyo. That 1, 2 combo really kicked my ass. I had to lay down for a little to recover

I just finished up reading The Complete Idiots Guide To Cigars (Second edition). It was actually a pretty good book, better then the similiar Cigar Afficiandos Guide To Cigars. I flipped through that one and it wasnt that good. Unfortunatly this book has only hightened my interest in Cigars.

Just had a Punch German Market (or Edition), and a Cohiba Maduro 5. Holy crap. That Cohiba Maduro was absolutely amazing. Everything about it was perfect. I'm definitely gonna let the other one I have sit in the humidor for a long time. It can only get better!

About halfway through a Lusitania(06) this morning. Very very good. I can't wait to let these get about a decade of age on them. Seems like most of the 06 cigars are very good quality and the 07 batch is even better.

Which one Noah? A Magico? Phenominal cigars. The Genio is just as fantastic only lasts longer, 'bout the size of a Siglo VI only 5mm shorter. But that Magico is kick-ass, great draw, full of flavor...........

Im getting my friend into cigars and tonight he asked me a question that i never heard or thought of. Cn you cut a cigar in haf nd smoke it as 2, my thought is that the middle is wrapped diffrently then the end so it wouldnt work out to well and the wrapper wold start to peel. Any thoughts

Looks like it's 113 with 10% humidity at the international airport. Being that you are a little bit inland it's probably a few degrees warmer......

I don't do it but I know a couple budget minded guys that will buy a large $3 cigars and cut it in half giving them two cigars. The middle section unwraps a bit.

I'm sure the guys that do this aren't concerned with flavor development throughout the course of the cigar, they just want something to smoke for a low price.

It has been to hot to smoke here too. It has stayed under 100 but the 90% humidity makes feel worse. I've sat at the cigar shop and had a couple this week. With our stupid no smoking laws I can't smoke at my favorite bars anymore. I used to go to those places in the summers.

Going on a 2 week hunt (grizzly, moose caribou) in Alaska on thursday. The weather will be dreary and wet.

How many cigars should I take? I usually pack one for the afternoon siesta and one post prandial on most hunts, but this is a back pack out in the sticks type of hunt.

Other than three top of the lines for the post-kills (Cohiba double Coronas) should I stick with the smaller vitolas (ie wet and bic lighters)? Take a mixture of 1st string and minor leagers? Or stick with a bunch of minor leagers?
