I heard a few things about the GAR from a few different people, and the stories were varying from it was amazing to it was horrible, but the one consistency was that people were disputing the winner because it seems he has lots of money and cars, and has lots to gain by participating in next years run, which is a shoe in since he's the winner. Also, in a competition where it came down to tenths of a second, it seems strange that they would give entire groups of cars who arrived together the exact same time, unlike Bullrun, where time cards are punched.

Seems a little fishy to me, but the cars were sure nice.

it was not run by fastest time. you had to have the total average speed closest to 61 mph. those numbers are how far off 61 mph average they were for the entire span of the rally.

yeah, in theory. however, they gave groups of cars that arrived together the same time. they didn't have individual punch cards. so iif yu take away individual punch cards, yet the winner only wins by tenths of a mile per hour, it leaves way too much to subjective scoring, which is why a few people i talked to were pissed.

Even so...driving 5 or 6 days of 400-600 mile legs with gas stops, pull overs, detours, getting lost, etc. Do you think that many people factored out the timing to the second that 20 teams all averaged exactly 61 mph from different starting points across the country over 3000 miles of driving without anyone getting lost? And the timing was so precise that 20 teams were with in 3 seconds of each other after 1 week?? Right.... I'll drop your bridge off next week.

i think it's possible when you consider the fact that they were giving groups of 5 or 6 cars the exact same times for some of the legs. there were over 200 cars on the rally, and when they are driving in big groups and being given the same times, i think it's pretty likely that a bunch will be pretty close together.
