A Kitcar is something normally based on its own chassis like a Noble, Ultima or K1 attack and sometimes a replica kitcar like a cobra or even a lambo to.

a replica is something that is replicating something.

I don't understand how you think the Saleen looks anything like a McLaren F1. It is truly an amazing piece of machinery.

What about the Koenigsegg CCR? The Pagani Zonda series? They all do not carry engines from their own manufacturers. Hell, the Koenigsegg even has a Ford V8. What about the McLaren F1 should that not be allowed into the supercar ranks with its BMW engine?

About the new Lamborghini. Is this supposed to be a precursor to the Murcie replacement, or just a random 20 off then never to be heard of/seen again?

First of all Koenigsegg now makes it's own engines and second the BMW engine for the McLaren F1 was specifically made for the F1 and is not intended for any other car.

IIRC the MacF1 was based off of an ///M design purely for the Mac-n-cheese F1.

It will be interesting to see the technologies in the new Lambo since the buyers become the test drivers.

    My bad,

I saw no common parts and was under the impression the blueprints were changed to meet the weight McLaren had asked for.

They're pretty much completely different engines so don't let the engine name M70 and S70 fool you. They basically start with the design of one engine and change it a lot. Different cylinder heads (dual ohc instead of single), valve timing, crank, no flywheel, engine displacement, etc. Hell, even the S70/1 is pretty different than the S70/2.

    Define MODIFIED!

    * The Koenigsegg CCR used a modified, Rotrex supercharged Ford Modular 4-valve DOHC 4.7L V8, which produced 806 hp (601 kW), to achieve a top speed of 241 mph (388 km/h). This certified top speed broke the McLaren F1's long standing world record for fastest production car. The accomplishment was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2005, who gave the Koenigsegg CCR the official title of Worlds Fastest Production Car. This engine is the basis for Koenigsegg's twin-supercharged flexible fuel V8 seen in the CCX. The Koenigsegg record was broken several months later by the Bugatti Veyron.

Take it from someone who's built two - in the US, they are a kit car. Although I think that 1G Racing is building them in house now....

I think they surmised theyd be wasting their time with me. LOL. Im not given to most contemporary (read: overweight with too many electronic bells & computer whistles) sports cars, and certainly not to sales gimmicks, and I think my position is well known with them. Ive been asked before, and I spoke my mind.

But I will share that one person who was invited to see the car and saw it in Pebble Beach told me that when the cover was pulled of the hapless model, he just about walked out in disgust. Basically its a Murcielago LP640 with a modified body and interior appointments. With 20 extra horsepower. For $1,500,000. The invited party's assesment of the car? "What a ripoff!" Needless to say he will not be submitting an order. For those who have, hey, its a free country, enjoy the car.

Im afraid the modern-day Lamborghini is very different from the ideals that Ferruccio Lamborghini stood for and also treats its customers very differently. But thats another story...

Right. I am sure we will be seeing 15 of these sitting in showrooms next to the Versace LP640s that are not moving.

I think it's important to remember that many stories begin with " " was pissed at Enzo/Ferrari/etc and set off to do something about it. I very much admire anyone who went down that road and beat Ferrari at Le Mans or built one of the most Iconic sports cars of all time the one you like so much and I greatly admire as well.

I too have gone down that road and it's a long a winding one. I agree that there's a bit of a difference between one that comes from the heart and one that comes from the accounting department...

    Best.

I hear you. I tried to put it all on my Visa card, and it was declined. Can't put $1.5mm on the card. I told them they were supposed to be "everywhere I wanted to be" and that I wanted to be in the car, but they just said something about me not making enough money. I tried to explain that this is America and I should be given everything now and on credit!

Joe, you don't like the new cars because you make money selling the old ones.

It has nothing to do with the cars. It has everything to do with your self interest.

This is the kind of stuff that constantly keeps Lamborghini behind. In this case, the question that I have goes out a little further. VW group has made it operant that Lamborghini and Bugatti are not totally secure within the company umbrella. The immediate future will require parent company Audi to invest a large amount of capitol to R@D the aging Murcielago. The current cars chassis is old (Diablo based) and would require an entirely new platform. Are they willing to do this, or are they trying to do the following. Suck out every last dollar they can from the Murcielago chassis, force more Gallardo's onto dealers so that they technically can label them as "5000 sold" and try as hard as they can to make the company look as appetizing (profitable) as they can to potential buyers?
If Audi is going to hang on to Lamborghini, the next step is going to be a very expensive one.

Another observation from the Monterey weekend. I watched the Lamborghini brass at Italiano, as the primped for the cameras, combing their hair, looking good. I couldn't help but wonder, why, with 30 or so of their flagship $400K LP640's sitting on showroom floors, they weren't introducing themselves to current Lamborghini owners (you had them there all in one place at one time) and asking them if they have tried the new LP640 or would like too? This is basic customer service.

I am very curious to see which direction the company goes over the next 12 months.

    Keith

I don't know Joe personally, seems like a nice chap. Why are you so sure he just honestly prefers the older cars? He seems to have a true passion for the history of the company and not merely the cars themselves. He seems to enjoy the story each car tells, just read some of his posts, or visit his website. The newer cars regardless of perforamce or soul or whatever you want to label it, simply are not going to carry the richness in terms of their history. I don't see why Joe couldn't profit from new cars- Roy seems to - and I'm sure Joe has the connections to make it a possibility.

I have no personal interest in defending Joe - it just seems you've jump to an unfair conclusion.
    Nice Profile pic btw

Here is someone who knows me better than I know myself. LOL.

Look, Ive collected Lamborghinis and the odd Ferrari for 20 years before I got into the business. I never liked heavy contemporary sportscars laden with technology. I appreciate your diagnosis of the reason for my preference, but since its all in my head, your sir havent a clue what youre talking about - unless you can read my mind of course :)

Thanks A8guy. Spoken like a shrewd observer.

As a matter of fact I do occasionally privately broker newer cars and thus profit from then (I may not tell the whole world about it so this may not be known). I simply like older cars and my 17-year-old F40 is about as new as I can take, ECUs and all. The 1971 Miura SV really hits the time zone for me though.
