    Nice car - very beautiful.

    What's a DBS again?

Aston has so many cars it seems and they all look alike. The V8 Vantage, DB9, and the DBS.... what happened to the Vanquish? Is the DBS a replacement for it?

I think they made some mistakes in making them all look so very similar. You will never mistake an Aston for another car on the road, but unless you're a real aficionado, you'll probably not know whether it's a DBS, Vanquish, V8, DB9 or whatever. And they should do what BMW does.... BMW announces a car, then a matter of weeks or 2-3 months later you can buy it in the showroom.

Aston seems to show off a car 5 years before you can ever buy the damn thing. By the time it comes out, it's been softened up and manufacturable-ized to where all the cutting edge cool unique things they did to the show car have been taken out... then all the folks who were all psyched to get it lose interest after waiting 3-4 years only to get a watered down version of what they had wanted!

    My .02 anyway

    SRTMike,

DBS is DB9-based with plentiful upgrades and style changes. I feel the DB9 was always a bit too "sleek" and wasn't as performance-minded as many of its competitors. Certainly lovely lines, but the DBS has made the DB9 suitably aggressive. Just what I loved about the Vanquish.

It is not the Vanquish replacement, however. Vanquish production ceased in '06, and we will see the new Vanquish possibly in '08. Probably more like '09.

It is true that Aston often takes more time to go into production than we'd like, but remember that AM was recently sold to ProDrive's Dave Richards (& Co.) and AM's future was, until the sale, uncertain at best. Since acquiring AM, Richards' team approved and commenced production of the DBS (which was far along in the process, I imagine) and has, reportedly, also approved production of the Rapide 4-door. Nothing like a bit o' the green stuff to hasten the advance!

You are correct that AM's styling is consistent. That is an issue with some for sure. After all, why spend $275K for a Vanquish S, when you can get 95% of the performance of it in a $150K DB9? And, they look very similar, indeed. I felt the overlap in the product line lacked clear vision. However, we can clearly see that manufacturers like MB, BMW and Audi are also moving in this direction with design "themes".

Anyway, unfortunately, the DBS is reportedly a sold-out, limited run of cars (around 250-300, possibly?), and will be in the $300K range. VERY pricey, IMO, especially since it is, fundamentally, still an upgraded $150K DB9. But, when manual transmission conversions are available for the Vanquish at $50K +/-, I suppose the pricing is not a terrible surprise.

After seeing a boatload of AM's this weekend at Monterey, those Vantages really grew on me. THIS car is sweet, dare I say I like it on Ferrarichat! Even worse, I like Jeremy Clarkson's taste in car selections, if he ever gets to drive this one, his word is gospel.

Dr. Bez recently said in an interview at Pebble 2007, that the DBS will be priced at "around $265,000".

It's still rather unofficial though. We just have to wait a bit more until Frankfurt '07 commences.

$265,000? A bargain. After all IT DOES come with a first aide Kit. Had to pay $19.95 for the one in my car.

Admittedly, the $300K figure I recall reading/hearing was some time ago. I'm sure their costing estimates have improved since that time. However, grossed up for options, delivery charges and taxes, I can see them getting to $300K. Easy. Merely a drop in the bucket! But, given the way prices have gone lately for the high end iron (RR, Lamborghini, Ferrari and the like) it seems eminently reasonable!

Although, I do kind of miss the diamond-pattern of the quilting in the original DBS prototype. I thought that was quite striking. Can't have it all, I guess, and they must cut some corners somewhere to get to an acceptable market price.

I bet you can have the seats anyways you like- AM seems very bespoke friendly

The one compaint i have is it seems al action is upfront on this car- it loses some of its fluidity with the DBS
The DB9 does seem like the ultimate trophy wife treat- the DBS ads a much needed dose of masculinity to the line
And now time to jump in my teal green Jetta and go to the grocery store!
