A 1/4 scale model of a warmed over Murcielago, to be called the LP640-2

It had a few F22 Raptor like doodads but is not a new car.

The "cloak & dagger" secrecy that surrounded the unveiling was a much bigger deal than the car they hoped to sell.

My source who was an invited guest was told that he was the "only one" but arrived to find 2 others there. After the big anticlimax and an attempted shakedown for a 300K Euros downstroke. He left only to see the next "exclusive" group arriving.

Supposedly they are all pre-sold already but yet this meeting looked suspiciously like a "time-share" presentation.

The were apparently hoping to shakedown some of their more affluent potential customers for some cash without actually building a new car first.

You can tell someone how rare and exclusive something will be (selling the sizzle, not the steak) but does it really merit 3 times the price?

They may in fact make only 20 or so.

What is to stop them from releasing the LP640-3 in a new color next year?

Reminds me of all the hype around "Beanie Babies".

As much as I like Lamborghini, this sounds kind of like a big let down. :(

If the official name is the Murcielago LP640-2 we are headed down the wrong path.

Audi and many car makers "name" their cars with a combination of "initials" and/or numbers (A4, A8, R8, S500, LX470, ugh). Does the LP640 even say LP640 any where on the car? I know it says Murcielago on the side sill.

At the very least I would expect a better name than "LP640-2" ...something better to sell the sizzle...

I guess they think the 'fighter jet' motif includes the letter/number naming, bah!

If this is all true it sounds like Lambo is in trouble, big trouble. This sort of nonsense is something you can never do again, once burned twice shy. I wonder where they will go from here, is there not going to be a replacement for the Murcie? I know we are maybe 2 years from that event but this could be a precursor to trouble brewing...

The "Presenters" changed the time and location of the "unveiling" at the last minute.

Not Roy's or anyone else's fault.

Considering the elegance that was on the 18th fairway on Sunday, the disappointment would have been even worse.

There was a very nice 400GT there that IIRC took third place in its class.

Any Lamborghini at Pebble Beach is somewhat of a surprise.

I can confirm the same 'shakedown' attempt with replacements warming up in the bull-pen. Lamborghini is in a very shameful place if this is how it does business. I can only console myself that the Lamborghini I own was built when the old man was still running the factory. Really sad.

Lamborghini is trying to get more cash out of their clients. This is only the first car, there are more planned.

    N'est pas?

While there may be more cars on the horizon (nobody is talking about this). "replacements warming up in the bullpen" was a baseball metaphor for the other prospective buyers that were arriving to their own "exclusive" showing.

Ah that is what i was thinking as you had posted earlier that some prospective buyer were going to this showing thinking they were the only ones to be invited ..Very poorly planned by Lambo then..,

no no - not what i meant.

roy quite specifically said (in the $1.5m car thread) that there was going to be another surprise appearing at the weekend and that it was going to be shown on the green on sunday - thus indicating it was likely going to be an older (and long lost/hidden) car
