I just noticed the small euro repeaters are gone. I imagine there are several more small details that will pop up after studying the pics over time.

 

What's "film?" Isn't that the gook that builds up on the paint...?

I just noticed you got rid of the turn signal repeaters on the front clam -- the yellow zits, I call them. I think it looks clearer without them; good move!

I am also jealous of your brakes and not afraid to admit it!

I can't wait until the fall when you begin to eval FI work, if that's still an option.

I was on vacation for 2 weeks and throttled back the Internet access.

I have had a total of 3 hours of Boxer seat time since April 8. How bad is that? She ran great after the major but the A/C blew up (or more accurately, out) and I've been busy and on vacation and....

What the hell -- September is better weather for Boxer outings anyway.

It's funny, I joined this forum (FerrariChat) to get some information about Testarossas. I had just purchased one, had always been a fan from a distance, but had no direct knowledge or experience with Ferraris. I don't personally know any other Ferrari owners, I don't live in a region known for exotic car ownership, and have never owned an exotic before. I just had a high-school crush on Testarossas and had to have one.

Now I read the forum, and I am starting to learn so much about the Ferrari ownership community and the various models and passions out there. I am thrilled with my Testarossa, and having the time of my life. It seems like the perfect first Ferrari - not a total maintenance nightmare (yes, I know there are issues, but they seem, by and large, predictable), relatively affordable (I figure a few years of ownership will cost me some money, but probably no more than the depreciation on a new loaded minivan, really) and super fun to drive, plus an irresistable conversation piece on the road.

But even though I love my new car, I am looking forward to many years of Ferrari ownership, of trading up, or down to different models, and excited by the prospect of learning more about these models and the various modifications, restorations, adventures and experiences that seem to define this community. I read the Boxer=Therapy thread, and agreed wholeheartedly. I read this restoration thread, and am mesmerized by the process. I spent several hours yesterday looking at other information on this car online. I'm completely hooked.

What was once a simple desire for that cool red car has become more of a yearning for more, more, more experience in this marque.

Congratulations on a wonderful restoration, Mark, and thanks to the other members here for the new awakening.

I second that, great post. Sam Sappranoff lives in alberta as well (a member here), has a boxer, you may live too far apart or nieghbors!

Firstly an opinion is an opinion. That's mine yours is different. Cool.

Improving any car is always a good thing. I had a 308 GTB that was a daily. Coming home on the West Side Highway every day in rush hour traffic in the summer by the time I got to 96th Street it was starting to overheat. I had to shut off the AC and put on the heater.

I took a sawzall to the hood and cut in a vent behind the radiator. Built ducting and added an nice grill. The car no longer overheated. FNA noticed my car at WWOC one day and asked if they could take pictures of what I'd done and send them to the factory. Guess what happened.

Pieces of History were driven by names we remember on Hollowed Ground and even those are just cars. My friend Mark knew that. He and Roger took theirs, sent the motor to a California engine Builder who hot rodded it, threw out the original body, made a better one in fiberglass, rewired it, re plumbed it, and put on a proper paint job. The Factory liked their engine so much they borrowed it for Pedro and gave them one that they said was much better. The Factory motor blew up. Mark's now in Pedro's car didn't. I think what was done to this car is super. If Mark hadn't stayed out too long on a deflating tire at the Austrian GP I think he's agree with me. There are some cars that, once again IMO, should be restored as they were but I don't think this was one of them.

The thing about FCHAT is that everyone with enthusiasm is equal here. Michael's (ex?) Boxer is a thing of beauty as well but it was different in that if judged the Judges would rate it a lot higher than yours which is highly modified. Modifying a car is not the proper thing to do if one wants to win trophies in traditionally judged Concours. This is an issue that has come to the fore with Ferrari Classiche. There is a very well known car that was a double Pebble winner this year. Originally it had one 24 point distributor which never really worked properly above 4500 rpms. A mechanic who knew what he was doing contacted the Factory in the day and was told to go to a double distributor setup. The car ran fine. Years later the car was submitted to Classiche before heading to Pebble. Classiche said the dual distributors were not original and the owner changed back to the single 24 point distributor. The car no longer runs well but it did win two prizes at Pebble. Everyone makes themselves happy. Mark and Rodger wanted the fastest 512M possible when they headed over to Le Mans so they highly modified theirs. Interestingly the Market IMO would pay more for this modified 512M than many factory cars but that is a different issue. Two minor points. Andrea came to me and that isn't a photo but a computer generated image made for Car and Driver as the car wasn't finished at the time.

Without Question , Your Opinion may be regarded as the holy Grail of F Chat , However...Pulling out any particlar model of Ferrari and disregarding its role in the evolution of the brand is akin to disregarding Darwinism....the Neandorthol, The Cro Magnun and the Caveman are all pillars in history that can not be disregarded as unimportant links in the chain...The 512 tr would not exist without the bb....just as the 308 without the Dino. Your judgement is premature as All Ferraris have a place in the history books. I believe your racing Heritage plateau , is a steep one and your opinion comes at a cost...that is one that squelches any model with an unsucessful racing history.To Me Hallowed ground is the factory that bears the footsteps of Enzo Ferrari and his magnificent Scuderia , and all models that came through the pipeline.....except of course the Mondial.
Voiceing our opinions is the Beauty of F Chat............An open view Forum,Which is mostly akin to Drinkin beer and hangin out in the Garage , Bench racing...

The boxer marks the end of an era with ferrari which makes it special and significant in my opinion. Last of the hand beat panels on a tube chassis, flat 12 derived from F1. The car was built as intended in europe rather than to meet NA specs taking away from the cars intended performance target. Any car after the boxer is more refined, aimed at the US market and to me lacks some of the character the older cars possess. The boxer may not be significant to the owners of such legends like the 250GTO and the TDF, the list goes on. I can see why thats the case but it is just opinion. To me, boxer ownership is a dream come true, killer car, important in ferrari history, awesome sound!

 

512 TR? I was referring to a 512M. If someone can be prasied for modifying one of those and I believe Mark and Roger can IMO the Mark who started this thread can be praised for modifying his BB. You may feel the BB is as important as a 512M in the scheme of things I don't but I've always been partial to cars painted Sunoco Blue wearing the number 6 so perhaps I'm biased.

All true but my only point remains that as this car isn't a 250 GTO modifying it IMO ain't no big deal certainly less of one than pulling the original motor out of a TR and replacing it with a turbine as the one discussed in the General Forum.

Jim...yes, sunoco blue number 6 cars are magic. i still hold wonderful memories of my parents bringing me to a sun oil luncheon where mark spoke about his recent retirement. he took his time with me and talked to me about the can am cars and the recent talladega speed record...i shall never forget how kind he was to me...a little boy from ct w/ a gleem in my eye!

If you nurse the original Lucas fans, they do ok............from the Jag V12 XKE, actually, and good hood foam is a MUST!

I'll admit I use Armorflex instead of the cheesy open cell stuff from 1977..........Dad was with Monsanto, we are all about plastics and foam at my house.......ROTFLMAO!

Lil' Sis is with BP (old Amaco unit actually) to this day, brewing stuff down in Texas City....her unit was the '06 Blast.
