Does anyone else like the lower panels of the early 348's in black also? I think it looks just fine. It makes the car look slimmer, sleeker, less bulky. I find the color matching on the later version looks good also but if I had an older one I'm not sure I would change the black lower panels to body color like many people do.

I hear you...... looking at your car, and in white, I kind of prefer the black trim down low.

I think some people paint the lower panels body color more in an effort to make it look like a slightly newer model (for those that would know the difference) rather than for aesthetic reasons. They maybe convince themselves it looks better or "updates" the car but.....

I don't have a 348 but if I did and I had a later model I would consider.... consider, painting the lower portion black.

In fact, the base color of the 348 rockers IS the color of the car on every single 348 made. Get a rock chip in your matte black rocker panel and you'll see what I mean.

The cars look fine either way. Motives are irrelevant. Pick your preference and enjoy it.

The side by side pictures of Kaivball helped me to confirm what I plan to do. The body color lower panels look darn good. My '67 Camaro had, and my '79 Vette, my '914 and my '87 Fiero all have black lower panels, so the body color lower just looks more exotic to me. When I see another 348, the first thing I notice is the lower body color and the wheels. I'm changing both.

Here is my car. Next is Chris's car with lower body color and different wheels. His looks much better. The lower portion of my car, the wheels and panels, look dull and black. His lower portion looks bright and colorful and to me, sexier. Check out Collin's yellow 348 with 355 wheels. Beautiful. I want 355 wheels, or HRE's 847. But I'm lucky and blessed to have what I got and the wife thinks the car looks just fine, so it's gonna be a while. It's just like the Harley, "Honey, it's a softale custom, all the customizing has been done by Harley, I won't have to touch it." We all know how that went.

My '94 came with painted lower panels. No black.

Bernard, I actually think the black rockers on yours are plenty sharp. It definitely changes the look of the car. Don't do change 'em on my account!

My opinion is, body color looks slightly more modern..... :)

I agree. And keeping it modern looking is a plus. The top three questions I get asked:
How fast, how much, how old. When I tell them it's a '92 and I paid less than what a Corvette Z06 costs, jaws drop in disbelief. Non Ferrari enthusiats think I have a $100k plus newer Ferrari. That's a 15 year old car? No way. It cost less than a Viper? No way. To some the 348 lines are dated, but plenty of people think I bought a new Ferrari. Having the only Ferrari in town helps.

Do the paint. It makes the car look more finished to me. Of course, I am biased - both my Spider and SS have paint. Seriously, on your white car, it would look much nicer. While you're at it, paint the engine cover too, if it's still black.

yeah, I think I will go all white all around and on the engine cover.

Can anyone recommend a good painter in the South Bay area? I do not need a Concourse paint job for $20k though...
