Can someone honestly tell what is happening with this region? I've been a FCA member for a few years, but now I fell like it is not worth to renew it. Not too many "social" events going on, aside from the track events. Yes, summertime is hybernation season for Ferraris here in Florida, but what about the rest of the year? Those great months of winter, when the rest of the country is shoving snow and eating chips watching basketball, FCA Florida has nothing. South Florida, for instance, with so much going on during winter, I have yet to see a FCA hosting just a simple Sunday "get together" for a pizza and a beer. No fancy or fake dinners at "wannabe" restaurants, guys; just a plain and simple get together or a rally drive around town. That's what a club is all about.
Please, I am not bashing anyone here. FCA has been doing lots of great stuff and I've met some extraordinary people thanks to the Club. But FCA Florida Region is the less active of them all. It seems everything South of "Amicis" is nobody's land.
I gladly volunteer my time and contacts here in South Florida (I mean South), to put together many get together events.

The club has a social event scheduled for September 15th in Miami hosted by the Collection. Check out the upcoming Redline and/or the web site (fcafloridaregion.com) for more details.

That has always been my beef with them. They got better with Jeff and Jay at the helm but nothing since.
Honestly though I was not able to make the last few events anyhow. (Maranello Madness due to French Quarter Classic conflict and Sebring Spring Spectactular, due to NASA racing).
One of th reasons why we started the SSF. We could do whatever we wanted without the politics of FNA behind it.
Come to our dinners. See the schedule on top of the thread page in "Sticky" for what is going on.

You are right. I will start attending SSF dinners and forget FCA. Thanks for replying.

FCA Florida Website lists what is basically called an "open house" at The Collection on Sept. 15, but that's it.

If you have a beef with the Florida Region I would suggest that you contact Regional Director Steve Selz. He is a very nice guy and would like to listen to your recommendations. Better yet, volunteer to help with an event. We have a track event in November but this conflicts with the social event of SSF and that is unfortunate. By being a member of the FCA you also have the opporturnity to attend other regions events. Of course that means you will have to leave the Sunshine State. The FCA is like any club or organization you will get out of it what you put into it. If you are unwilling or unable to take part you will get nothing out of it.

I like the SSF better. It seems to have a better communication with what is going on for me. I subscribed to the FCA for a year but did not ever find out about anything other than the end of the year lunch at Amici. No problem, that's what different clubs are for anyway. Plus you can't beat the membership dues to SSF. Attend one of our monthly dinners to find out more.

I did speak to Steve S. about a year ago, and even volunteered to get things moving in So. Florida. Indeed, he seems to be a great guy. His response was to take the issue to the next board meeting. 12 months later, no answer. Oops.

I would not say forget the FCA but add the SSF to your calendar. We have the great advantage that we do not have to play politics with FNA. We don't tip-toe around what the big cheezes at FNA might think of this or that. Keep in mind though that FCA has several events that are unique and membership there has its advantages. The annual meet this year I am sure is/was awesome. Wish I could have made that. One of my clients was one of the main organizers. Debbie's FCA Annual Rally in 2003-2004 (can't remember the year) was great. Still haunts me and I got fortunate in seeing a side of Florida I never knew.

An FCA open house is scheduled for September 15 at The Collection in Miami.

Maranello Madness 2007 is scheduled for November 1-4.

The web site is going to undergo a major facelift in the near future including better graphics, more photos and more content. Please be a little patient and stay tuned...

    Bob:

It's great to know FCA will make changes to the Florida Web Site. It is, indeed, a sign of yet, many changes needed to happen.
But the main point of my original posting, and allow me to emphasize this, is precisely the Region's lack of social activities when compared with the rest of the country. This is not happening just recently. Take a look at all the monthly newsletters for the past 2 or 3 years, and you will corroborate what I am saying. Florida region lacks far behind the rest. This is what needs to be changed. Let's go back to basics and do what the rest of the Chapters are doing: Just plain and simple social gathering without ties, and fun drives around town. Is this too difficult to achieve for FCA Florida?

Please don't take this post the wrong way............I too am a member of the FCA (as well as SSF and some other clubs), and do agree that the FCA has a dismal low quantity of events, and the dissemination of information about those events is extremely poor w/ the FCA. However, there are a few things that come to mind:

If you're upset that there are no events, but do nothing about it but complain, then you're just part of the problem, not the solution. SSF is very lucky to have Ron, Martin and several other people who relentlessly put a lot of personal time and effort into planning and organizing events. So, rather than taking the time to post how there are no events, why not post an event that YOU plan.

Something as easy as an informal group lunch and drive (see the post for the one organized for later today - hope to see you there) is pretty easy to put together - get reservations at a restaurant that has good parking, tell people about it, follow up w/ the restaurant and people, go and have a good time. Even organizing a group drive is pretty easy, just plan the route and tell people.

If you do plan an event...........definitely be prepared to listen to other people whine about this and that, bi*ch why you did or didn't do something, and complain about things that you have no idea wtf they're talking about. It's a thankless and stressful job to plan events, but rather than just complain, take action!

Telling someone that you'll 'help' doesn't get things done - 'help' means different things to different people. Talk is cheap. If you want events, take action and MAKE things happen..................

You are right. Talk comes cheap, and its better to act than complain. This is why over a year ago, I personally contacted Jay and later Steve (when he took over the Region) with this issue, and most important, to bring up ideas and my own time to personally put together events in South Florida. On both occasions I told "thanks for your feedback, we are working on it".
You have to understand unless FCA authorizes me, I simply cannot to use their name or speak on "their" behalf, and try to put together an event. At least this is the message I got after contacting these folks.
And as you already know, South of Amici's there is plenty of Cavallino life. Perhaps the largest community of Ferrari drivers (not garage queens) in Florida.
Steve S. if you need a "Soldier" in Fort Lauderdale-Miami area to get things moving and help FCA Florida, I am ready to hit 1st gear. I won't do no more talk, and await your response.

Why not just post some things you would like to organize, and let them happen. We have lots of events that don't fall under the guise of either FCA or SSF, but are just a fun time for people who like cars. I have a spring party at my house each year, we meet for dinner whenever we want to, go for drives to Lake O or other places ( ;) ), anything we feel like. Want to have a detail day at a place you think is worthwhile? Post it here, and you WILL get people going. FCA i somewhat political by the nature of its structure, so trying to make headway there might not be fruitful. Meet me at Callaro's in an hour and we can discuss it! :D

If you want to do it for FCA, talk to them and tell them the plan for the event, and let them 'authorize' you to plan it for them. If you just want an event, plan it and post it here, or feel free to come join the fun in the many, many get-togethers (both formal and informal) that get posted on F-chat!!! I have met some very, very good friends, and have had some of my most memorable times with my car as a result of this place!! :)
