RESTRICTED - yea, we get it - NO JEWS!

Having this event on Yom Kippur says it plain and clear.

I saw the restriction too. I think the first 20 applicants have no restriction whatsoever. I didn't see anything anti-semetic.

Is anyone allowed to do anything that day? Should we call you first?

    Live and let live.

Hey Beast, I apologized to Max.
No need to tell him off, he's right about poor planning on our end.
However, as a Club, we do not discriminate by race, religion, political beliefs or marque.
The event is open to those who might own another exotic, such as a Lambo or Maserati regardless of religion.

Max -- again, very sorry on our part.
Read the PM I just sent to you on the topic.
Hopefully, next year we will not schedule on any religious Holy day
and you can come down and meet a great group of Mid-Atlantic Region enthusisasts --
agnostics, Jews, Protestants, Muslims, Catholics, Methodists, Seventh Day Adventists, Mormons, Buddhists, etc.

We don't discriminate by religious or political beliefs.
The common denominator is comraderie and sharing our passione!

Bashing back and forth is counter-productive.
Better for me (personally) to take the high road and learn from the incident.

I suspect there are people of various faiths and beliefs who feel they have been wronged and discriminated against during their lives.
Although it has never happened to me personally, I can see another person's perspective.
No big deal to pick another date next year.

The intent was NOT to discriminate against any religious group (or maque owners, such as Lambos, who also are welcome to register).

We should let it rest for now and move on.

Dear SGMDCFD: I also hunt and watch college football (Go Canes!), but NOT on Yom Kippur.

YOUR response is way out of line.

My point is that the date picked is THE holiest day on the Jewish calender and no consideration was given to this fact.

I cannot expect someone who changes cars as often as most of us change underwear to understand.

88Testaroosa, read your PM and apology accepted.

Now I'll wait for SGMDCFD's! (But, I won't hold my breath).

    Peace.

Wow...... Max..... I think you owe the group of us an apology! You come on here with 156 postings and as near as I can tell don't even live in our region and start this kind of exchange..... ? What gives? Here's a thought for you.... IT'S A CAR CLUB! Hats off to Al for wanting to take the high road but I think your comment is the one that's way out of line and reflects poorly on you for using a religious event to push your agenda here.

Bottom line is you ask for sensitivity to your needs when you don't seem willing or able to give any for others! If you had presented your concern rationally instead of being antagonistic you would have gotten a more favorable reaction.

    Max,

I'm pretty sure the planning of this car event's date was not intentionally done to exclude anyone, especially a religious group.
However, your post did make me curious to learn more about Yom Kippur and why it would conflict with going to a car show.
I'm not sure if these are the best website references to use, but it was interesting reading:

    http://www.jewfaq.org/holiday4.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Kippur

So, having read these web pages, I at least now understand your point that scheduling an event on Yom Kippur pretty much, by definition, will not be attended by any Jewish people who are actively practicing their faith.

The bigger question is, is it reasonable to go ahead and schedule an event even though you know some people will not likely be able to attend because of a conflict with something else important? I think the answer to that is "yes". For example, scheduling a business lunch during the month of Ramadan isn't going to work well for the Muslim attendees. Often they will still attend but continue their fast watching everyone else eat and drink.

Because the U.S.A. is so multi-cultural, there are just too many days where there is a potential conflict (e.g. Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick's Day, Good Friday, Ash Wednesday, Chinese New Year, etc.). So, I think the best we can hope for is that the average American learns enough about the other cultures and religions so that they can make informed date-related decisions, but still realize that events will likely be scheduled sometimes in spite of those conflicts.

Now, I will admit, if this particular show could just have easily scheduled it for that Sunday (or a week earlier on Saturday) instead of Yom Kippur Saturday, that would have been the better option (for most people).

    Peace back to you.

Mardi Gras began as a religious celebration before the fast.

I wouldn't tell you to sipping scotch during lent. Or stop doing anything else that you do for that matter.

Negativity not needed here or anywhere.

    Peace to all.

1.---Do you live in this area??
2.---Do you plan to attend this event??
3.---The last I checked this event is not mandatory for anyone, if YOU have a conflict with that day, then don't go--Why cry about it??
4.---So before an event is planned--the planner needs to check the universal religious days for the year?? Give me a break---If an event was planned for Christmas(which I celebrate) I just wouldn't go---I wouldn't CRY about it......According to your info, you don't even live around here. Never seen you post in this section!!!
5.---I don't think any event planner has to give consideration to anyone when planning an event--It is their event and they can have it when THEY see fit!!!
6.---If you don't like it then plan your own event on Christmas or Easter.....
7.--What is it your concern if someone changes cars 20 times--Is it any of your business??
    Just my personal opinion---

First off, I didn't know that one was "restricted" to posting in the geographic area in which they live or in the model of Fcar they own.

Second, what does my number of posts have to do w/anything?

Lastly, I'm being called a hater b/c of my post.
    That's a good one.
I think the real haters are just beginning to show their real colors.

88Testarossa has obviously gotten the meaning of what I was trying to say and my hat is off to him.

    Who is Bob?

Seems like you got a big chip on your shoulder about being Jewish. You know nothing about any of the people in the mid-atlantic region so yes there is relevance to the area you are posting especially when you are being adversarial. Why do you automatically assume outright discrimination when there may not be any? Everyone is guilty until proven innocent? You and people who think like you are part of the problem when it comes to discrimination. How bout trying a positive approach to relaying your concerns rather than going on the attack? Your unwillingness to see another point of view or give the benefit of the doubt makes me glad you are in Florida and not here.

Some people see discrimination everywhere they look. It's not worth arguing with them, and trying to show that there was no discriminatory intent is a waste of time, as nothing other than throwing oneself on the ground and begging forgiveness will ever do. Tis better to just ignore the people with chips on their shoulder.

Now, can we get back to discussing cars?

Stan, I get along with everyone. Its just that someone coming on here who is not from our area and who does not attend any of our events should not be complaining about when our events are held.
