The results really surprise me. I thought the GT would be much quicker than the Ferrari.

The 430 is a fierce competitor when driven correctly; CST off and taken to 8500 in every gear, anything less, the results could have been different.

Interesting to note it's a Spider, which is heavier, and thus slower, than a coupe.

How about that exhaust note of the Ford GT? Sounds like a Lexus in this video.

Very cool vid! I know a 430 is low, but I didn't realize the GT is that low. He was looking up at the 430. The end was the best:

Driver: "It's because of the gear shift in that car, that's why it's faster"
Passenger: "That's exactly what it is"

    uh-huh

At times the Ford did look like it was about to take over but the 430 came on strong. The 430 did have the jump on him so it's really hard to give the edge to the 430. They look about even to me.

It is! I own both cars among others and the FGT is much faster than the F430. The one coveat is the F1 versus 6 speed. In race mode you just hang on with the Ford GT you have to shift. Also the F430 up to 30 mph is very quick. The Z06 is about like the F430 maybe a tad faster for the Z06. The Ford GT is faster than the two Z06's I have played with.

Both a great cars love them both. There are things about the F430 F1 I like better and stuff about the FGT that are better

Having the CST off makes a huge difference in shift speeds.

What does cylinder count have to do with it, since the 430 is faster than any 12 cyl Ferrari I can think of except the Enzo and the 599? In my experience, the 430, Z06, and FGT are all pretty close straight line if all are stock.

Exactly! I have a little 6 cylinder that MURDERS Ford GTs and just about every 12 cylinder out there too.

In the Top Gear TV show in the UK the coupe and spider were about the same speed.

With the same engine output (which can of course vary, maybe as much as 2 or 3%), it simply has to make a difference, unless the laws of physics have been repealed. The weight difference is what, 250 lbs?

I thought the same as well, but one of the points that Maranello made sure to emphasize during the Spider's release is that its much closer to its Berlinetta counterpart (in terms of performance at least) than its predecessor was.

Really. Every time we see a street race take it with a grain of salt. It's typically drivers that don't know what they're doing. Motor Trend did a side by side comparison of the Ford GT and a F430 F1 coupe. The Ford GT is faster 0-60 and on up. By 100 mph the GT has taken just 7.8 seconds while the Ferrari is lumbering behind at 8.6 seconds.

    Acceleration to mph, sec
    0-30 1.5 (1.3) sec 1.7 sec
    0-40 2.1 (1.9) 2.4
    0-50 3.1 (2.9) 3.0
    0-60 3.8 (3.7) 3.6
    0-70 4.7 (4.5) 4.5
    0-80 5.9 (5.7) 5.4
    0-90 7.0 (6.8) 6.3
    0-100 8.6 (8.3) 7.8

Not to start another Ferrari/ford war, but in an article I read about the development of the ford GT, they only mentioned the Ferrari 360 17 TIMES! Basically, ford bought a Ferrari 360, disassembled it, learned from it & copied what they could get away with, added a supercharger, posted better acceleration times than a stock 360, then proclaimed themselves the victor. Total BS in my opinion. Let's add a supercharger to the base 360 & see what happpens.

The fact that an F430 is right there in acceleration numbers shows what ford's marketing is trying to do...BS the public. Hell, I have been to street races & watched Honda Civics "take the doors off" a stock mid-'90s Corvette....Oh yeah, the Civic was running many mods...including nitros... Do we hear about Hondas being faster than Corvettes? (O.K., the NSX is another story....that puppy hits 130mph & ASKS for more....the Corvette shudders like it's about to explode)

    I have been in a ford GT....amusing, but whatever....for half the price & only 2/10th of a second slower (& w/o a supercharger), I'd take the new Z06 Corvette.

ford had their "limelight" (or 15 minutes of fame) in '66 by beating Ferarri at his favorite game (racing)...he came back in '67 with the P4 1-2-3 win & b*tched-slapped ford back to their proper place.

let's re-think ford's so called 15 mins of fame ok? in fact, you may have one or two minutes missing as among other things, you have forgotten their little 3000cc ford cosworth v-8 f-1 power plant...she did fairly well in the wins dept!!

Not to mention the Ford powered Cobra. Never thought I would stand up to support Ford. Both cars are great. Owning both, anyone who says a FGT will be beaten by the F430 just has not ridden in one. there at least 20% more grunt with the FGT. The Z06 is awesome but does not quite get it. The F430 F1 considereing everything is the better car. it is hard not to love it!

I drove a 2008 Porsche Turbo CAB yesterday. A great car but not quite as good as the F430, Z06 or FGT. I lost the bid on it they are too proud of their car as they should be. The car would be a wonderful everyday driver and it a thing of beautiful car to gaze upon.

I Never thought I would like the Corvette but the new base car with the better steering is a great car at par with the Porsche 911 & 911S. I gave a offer on a 2008 base 911 CAB. From what they said we should have a deal. This will replace my 1999 911 CAB which I bought new and picked up in 1998. It has been a perfect car. It was a tough decision between the Porsche and the Corvette. The perfect reliability of my current Porsche versus my (old) experience with GM products. I honestly think GM has started in the right direction. I just could not get myself to buy a GM product. I also had trouble buying the Ford GT but the driving and pure stature of the car made me weak at the knees just like a supermodel would. So far it has been a joy to own.

    Great video, thanks for posting!

    Well, amen three times over.

But kudos to Ford for a retromobile with some guts. Maybe if they weren't broke they'd have kept on with it. In the meantime it's back to the Shelby-badged Mustang of the Month Club, lol.
