The latest issue of Car&Driver has an article about GT5 for PS3. Based on that it will be absolutely awesome once it comes out. And therein lies the issue: It is now anticipated to be released for X-mas. X-mas of 2008. :(

So I'm hoping and waiting now for DIRT.

That would be nice. I haven't heard that, but certainly wouldn't mind.

I just feel bad, that I went out and bought a PS3 that I don't need. I could have bought the thing a year later for less money.

Any news on Force Feedback? I read that Sony finally settled the legal issues with Immersion, so they should be able to include force feedback without lying about why they include rumble and tilt in the same package.

Besides, Ken Kutaragi no longer holds his high and mighty position, so I hope the other guys there are doing something right.

I like the GT HD demo, but the analog triggers and the light controller just don't do it for me. I don't have a real wheel for the PS3. I have a Logitech USB wheel that works for both PS2 and PC, but I didn't try it on the PS3.

I do have the Madcatz MC2 wheel and MS wireless wheel for Xbox 360, and both of them work very well on Forza 2 and PGR3.

Also, if Sony does include Force Feedback, will we have to get only new controllers, or new consoles as well?

    Thanks

Try the wheel on PS3, it should work right away.

I have the same wheel and use it now for PS3 where GT4's Force Feedback works just fine. So no, if Sony includes FFB on GT5 or F1 we won't have to buy new wheels.

I still can't stand the PS3 controller for racing games. I hope they have a nice wireless wheel by the time GT5 comes out, and they better have rumble AND force feedback.

Forza 2 on Xbox360 has spoiled me already, so I really don't want to play GT5 with the current PS3 controller.. ! :)

You don't play racing games with a controller.

There is already a nice FFB Logitech wheel for the PS3. It is the same that came out for the PS2.

But you do have a point about FFB: Sony screwed the pooch on their 2007 F1 game by leaving FFB out (they had it in their 2006 version). So I really hope, they never make that mistake again.

If those are in game graphics shots looks like I'll be putting a PS3 on the credit card come next year.

They are indeed in-game. Hopefully though, we can expect a little more than the F430 and 599 GTB. I'm not expecting anything like a F40, but hopefully at least the Enzo, 360 CS, or a race car.

There's no true force feedback for the PS3 (yet). It's already a known fact that Kutaragi and company lied about not being able to integrate rumble and force feedback with the tilt function. But Nintendo already did a great job with their full motion controller system. The truth was that Sony failed to settle their legal issues with Immersion back them.

Things are looking better for the future, however, so I hope that GT5 has full rumble and force feedback support! :)

Those are either in-game or equivalent. I have the GT HD demo, and the car models look perfect, and even better in replays. The far background looks fake, however, and the people on the field look kind of inconsistent because of the lack of detail.

But the cars look great, and I intend to get GT5 with whatever steering wheel they market it with.

Actually there is: If you play GT4 with the Logitech FFB wheel it feels the same as with PS2. PS3 does support FFB, it's just that the F1 game didn't.

    For real? I stand corrected!

As I mentioned in previous posts, I already own 4 wheels (1 for Dreamcast, 1 Logitech FFB USB wheel for PC/PS2, and 2 wheels for the XBox360).

I guess I can wait till GT5 comes out before I clutter my home with yet another wheel, so I look forward to getting the Logitech FFB or whatever new wheel comes out after that.

Given we dont know how the physics/handling will be as yet..its one-up on Forza 2 for the Xbox360(which i own),it has cockpit view, and no doubt the graphics will be sweet. I may have to invest in a PS3 after all :) ..

The physics of the GT series have been among the best in the world, so I have no doubt it will be superb. My only concern is that they might not bring back FFB, but that seems far fetched.

To call the Forza2 inside car view a "cockpit view" in comparison with the screen shot I posted below is a stretch. All you get are generic instruments suspended in mid air and the very top of the hood visible. Compare that to GT5 where you actually sit inside the cockpit.

IIRC PGR3 had actually a true cockpit view with correct interiors and all.

PS: I have a XBox360 and a PS3 and am absolutely not interested in a pissing contest on which one is better. All I care about is to have as much a realistic driving game as possible. Forza2 isnt' bad, but I really can't wait for GT5. I wish the developers would focus on what really matters: Exotic cars and not hundred versions of Subarus, Mitsus and Hondas.

Some of those screenshots are in-game graphics, but they are not gameplay graphics. They are replay graphics. It's usual that replays look significantly better than gameplay. This is because the hardware can be dedicated towards graphics rendering in the replays without allocating processing for tasks such as physics, user input, AI, etc. Great looking replays have a psychological impact - gamers project the quality they see in replays into their perception of gameplay.

You're right on that one. I was smiling when I read in the manual what the conditions were for a car to be even considered for PGR3. They got that right.

Meanwhile I'm working my way up in Forza2 driving some boring VW GTi and Renault Clios. What a pain. Can't wait to get to a higher level and some real cars.

tifosi, do you play Forza 2 online? We have a great online team with members from US, UK, Australia, etc and we have frequent races together. All are working professionals who love cars and racing.. they are all great sports and the good racers look out for the beginners, and give out free cars when some needs a good car to compete.

Let me know if you're interested to join in..

Thanks for the invite, but I don't play online.

I did that once and felt odd as a middle aged man amongst a bunch of kids. :)
