It figures, now that my car is 2 months out of warranty, and Wil shuts his doors, my car finally has a problem. I think I need the tranny pulled in order to get to a silly little electrical sensor inside the transmission. :(

More than likely, it will go to the dealer to get fixed - I want it done right. However, as alternatives, are there any good mechanics (gheez, I still can't believe Wil is gone) that you know of???

I think that really just leaves Tim Stanford and Tyler Gump? Don't know numbers just the names.

Fred I gave you one of the best mechanics out there. Alan has guys that worked on F1 teams for years. There is more experience than you can find in most mechanic shops. What more can you possibly ask for? Maybe you did not like the fact he told you WORST case scenario (F1-system) at least he tells you up front. Bring you car to him and let him hook up the SD2 to diagnose.

The other option stop complaining and start building your dealer relationship and bring the car to Shelton and let their guys work on it.

In my opinion Tim Stanford is the Ferrari guru.

    He's a great guy.

You can reach him at 954-764-7824.

(I think he's closed on Yom Kippur though!)

    Cheers.

Martin, thank you very much for your recommendation. I spoke with Alan earlier today, and he definitely knows his stuff! I also realize that I can bring it to the dealer. The purpose of this thread was not to dispute anyone's abilities, to debate who is better or worse, nor to 'complain'. The purpose was simply to find out as many options as possible that may be available before I make an important decision on where to take my car.

Mike, yes I have dealt with Tim Stanford many times in the past when I had my 348 Spider. He is really a fantastic choice, and I would recommend him without reservation for someone that has an older F-car. But, last I spoke with him, he is not equipped to work on the newer cars that require the SD2 systems because he didn't have the SD2 diagnostic computers.

I also talked with Paulie today - he too seems to have some knowledgeable and capable mechanics.

I want to get this taken care of ASAP, as I am going crazy thinking about my pride-and-joy-baby needing to be de-virginized.

    Here are your options:

    Collection: $110/h (SD2)
    Shelton $105/h (SD2)
    Tim $100/h (no SD2)
    Alain: $80/h (SD2 + SD2 Michelotto)

    Paulie I don't know.

Definetly a good idea to bring your car to your Ferrari dealer if you ever want to built a reasonable relationship. How can you expect to ever become a good customer when you do not even bring your car there for service?

The labor prices all sound reasonable. If the dealer was close to me I would go there. But I am lazy and would take the car to the closest that I was comfortable with.

Fred, thanks for contacting me yesterday. Expect a call from Ryan this morning. Yes to everyone else, I do have the SD2 and the technicians to diagnose and correct the problem. If Fred wants to use us, he knows that his "pride and joy" will be treated like it was mine and many of you know what that would be like!

    Fred,

I was actually supposed to bring my car to Maranello next month, Wil told me that his mechanic was on vacation for a month and would be back, guess not! Let me know what you're going to do about servicing your car, I need some work done and want to get it done soon. I don't have F1 but still need a good place to work with as my guy can no longer service my car. I am thinking of going to Shelton as a last resort!

    Thanks
    Marc

I think Shelton would be a great place to get service if you are anywhere from Hollywood up to Boca. From north of WPB it is just a hassle for me. It seems like there is a kind of paranoia about going to the delaer for service. I would think they should have great knowledge and all the parts / tools you could imagine. If you have been there and gotten poor repair work or faulty service then I might look somewhere else that would also be convenient. I understand there was some miscommunication some time ago about an appointment, but last I heard they were looked at very positively at Shelton.

If Shelton or the Collection for that matter, gave you "faulty" service, they will fix it at their cost.
The advantage of a FNA service facility is, they have all the resources to fix your car. They have to stock parts (which costs money) and keep their mechanics trained by sending them to NJ and Italy for training (costs $) something that an independent shop does not do.

I think the most common reason people go
to independant mechanics, is price of repairs
usually cheaper though not necessarily better
worse. there's usually a big difference for the
    same service.

    True Sindo.

In addition, the private mechanics tend to try and fix minor parts that are broken, rather than the dealer that just orders the new part. I watched Gianni at Will's shop fix the A/C stop button/spring on my 550 in 3 minutes, and the Collection wanted $2800 +Tax for a new panel, I think of this every time something goes on the car.

It's so sad that Will closed shop. I believe that Gianni took the family back to Maranello, where he can resume working for Ferrari. Great people, both of them.

    HEY FRED,
I HAD TO HAVE MY F1 TRANSMISSION REDONE. I HAD FERRARI OF LONG ISLAND DO IT IN NY OVER LAST SUMMER. A FEW DAYS AFTER THEY DID IT I SHIPPED THE CAR TO FLORIDA. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE OPERATION OF THE TRANNY AND TOOK IT TO SHELTON. THEY SAID I NEEDED ABOUT $3,600.00 WORTH OF WORK. I SHOWED THEM THE BILL FROM FOLI, THEY SPOKE WITH THEM AND REPAIRED THE TRANNY FOR NOTHING. I TOOK IT BACK FOR ONE ADJUSTMENT AFTER THAT, AT NO CHARGE, AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS SINCE. I HAVE ALSO HAD SOME OTHER SMALLER THINGS DONE BY SHELTON AND I SWEAR BY THEM.
