I have seen photo's of the Red Brunei 288. It has a really bad taste interior colour scheme which is not unusual for Brunei cars from my observations.

    How was the interior??
In the picture I have seen it seems like it is all black the only special thing is that it is RHD.

Ill say that most of the Brunei cars Ive seen exhibit livery choices of rather less than impeccable taste...

And here is a car of impeccable taste. An English journal once said: "The 288 GTO is the thinking man's Ferrari Supercar". One point of view...

Ah c'mon Joe. Those pristine and super clean 288's at the concours look nice and all.....but how about when they are nice and dirty? Like this post Supercar rally pic of a 288 resting in front of the Casino in Monaco (2004) :D

Thanks fellow fchatter Gilles for the pic.

I know of the following 288 GTO's, but there might be more. There were 4 GTO's at garage 5, each in a different colour: Red, Indian Blue, Dark Slate and Black.

    FER F288 GTO BN1212 ZFFPA16B000056641
    Red.

    FER F288 GTO BK65 ZFFPA16B000056655
    Indian Blue.

    FER F288 GTO BN2288 ZFFPA16B000057727
Black. This one is now in Ottawa, Canada. Dismanteled, all parts in plastic bags. Owned by a lawyer.

    FER F288 GTO BM9988 ZFFPA16B000055671
    Dark Slate with Red Stripe.

    + the GTO EVO
    FER GTO KF9876 ZFFPX16X0J0079889

I have seen pieces of the Red GTO and a dark coloured GTO in a picture. I haven't got any other pictures of the Brunei GTO's.
    Here's the dark one: http://www.*************/Pics?viewPic=y&source=gal&uID=129612&gID=976&pgID=6&pID=450960&first=true
I'll post the red one later.

When you say red stripe you're talking about the piping on the seats or a stripe on the exterior? If it is on the outside of the car, what did it look like? 360 CS syle or Dodge Viper style, etc?

I have not seen pictures of this particular INDIAN BLUE car, but I have been told it had the stripe that runs throught the middle of the body that is normally painted black, in this case it is painted red.

Interesting. My GTO, VIN 55669, is right before the Dark Slate car, VIN 55671. That does not mean they were necessarily built in succession.

The picture is of a rear shock on a GTO that gets driven, on the road and track. The paint is wearing away where the shock and spring touch. This shows you how much "movement" there is in the rear end of a GTO when driven hard. If you really want to make a GTO sing, this is one area I would address. I would stiffen up the rear end. This will also take away the designed in understeer of the car. I did increase the (neg) camber on the front by adding in shims to help the turn in and take away some understeer at turn in. I did not want to modify the car any more than adding shims.

Of course, this is a slipperly slope. Why not add ceramic bearing F40 (upgraded) turbos? Then you have to add water injection as they are water cooled (GTO turbos are not). Then you screw down the spring in the wastegate to get 650 bhp. Then you have to change the tranmission to a dog-clutch (non-synchro) to handle the HP and Torque. Then you need bigger brakes to stop the thing. Which means you need bigger wheels. And you probably want water injection to cool the rotors or at least route brake cooling ducts to the rotors. Etc., etc. This is why I never went that direction. Where do you stop? If you want a better track car, just purchase a F40LM.

Oh like that :) I forgot the GTO had those sidestripes too (just like F40, F50, etc.)

    Thanks for the information!

I fully agree with you. I think most markets are overhyped right now and am amazed at some of the prices at this time. I was a broker during the late 80's to extremely early 90's and I think that the Ferrari market is at it's high for now. There is a little time left but not much.

I believe that we are heading into a serious recession (I truly hope :) no offense to anyone but it creates good bargains in every market ;) ) and the only reason why I would purchase a classic at this time is due to the fact that it is very rare and hasn't been on the market in a very long time. A 288 GTO (albeit one of my favorite cars period) does not fit that billing. If you are patient there are plenty.

Only 56655 and 55671 are on the register of production 288 GTOs. The others are clearly post-production cars. Incidentally, 55671 was first delivered to Ron Stratton in England who drove it back there from Maranello with a journalist riding shotgun to document what they were like to live with . I expect the aforementioned journalist waxed lyrical ad infinitum....

A good friend of mine was a motoring journalist some years back... and may still dab in it from time to time... and back in 1985, he was in the hills of Italy driving the 288 GTO... having an absolute blast with the car through the uphill hairpins in the mountains... when suddenly, here comes a bus just barely seen as coming up and over the crest of the hill.... The car quickly darted a little off, barely missing a direct collision with the bus, and they continued on their merry way :)

It's probably 18mths since I saw the photo; but I seem to recall it had a black interior with extensive red piping throughout. Not pretty.

OK now we've evoked my sarcastic side again. Howz about picking some lottery #'s for me? The dead sure predictors of the the future are best left keeping their ideas to themselves. I would. Then, lottery/stocks/ballgames---would all be mine for the picking. Let's see, 1st I'd buy an island, then the rest of the supa-F-cars , build the ultimate track and fly only close friends in to enjoy whilst the rest of the the world wondered what happened.....
