Getting dressed for the dance! (VIR, Sept 11).

After a year of planning and another year of construction, we are finally in a new home. The girls got lots of rooms and whatnot, I managed to carve out some garage space. It's out back, hidden from the neighbors, inside our fenced yard, and in the shade. Perfect for tinkering while Katie runs through the sprinkler.

As usual, a thanks to Sport Auto is in order. When looking at flooring, I asked Steve Barney about the tile in their showroom. In typical form, he didn't just get me the name of the tile, he sent me home with a sample tile! I used a different color scheme, but it really makes the garage a showroom.

And after a bit of wrangling, and with Tom's help, I think I have figured out the lift. So tomorrow I will do a bit of necessary tinkering (also as directed by Tom) and see if I can get the car ready for some action.

The wheels are a set of 355 wheels that had some scuffs. I love black wheels for the track, so these got the royal treatment: $20 worth of black spray paint from Autozone and 4 careful coats.

The tires are the real deal: P-Zero Corsas. Took a while to find some, it's getting hard to find wide tires in 18". I guess I need some 20's with spinners.

See you guys in a couple of weeks!

That Autozone black is fantastic. I've had mine painted for 4 track sessions now and you will see how well they're holding up on the 11th.

Unfortunately for my 512, I know much more about fixing and piloting the bikes.

I'm having severe garage envy right now (just squeezed the 328 back into her berth...)

Looks fantastic. We are moving to the lake and while Ravelle has been thinking about remodeling the house, I have been trying to decide what to do with the garage. You gave me some good ideas. One question though, where is the Ferrari flag going to go?

Peter, the lighting really has been a big plus. I wanted it bright because I was tired of working with a head lamp on. Since we were starting from scratch, it was pretty simple to do. But the difference is much more than I imagined. With the lights off, it still feels like a garage, even with the snazzy paint and floor. But when you turn them on, it feels like a showroom on a bright sunny day. Honestly, the other stuff - even the lift - is fluff. (OK, the lift is actually really sweet...) But the light is key. So Rob, whatever you do to the garage, add tons of light!

Just got back from a test drive with the new wheels. Whoohoo!!! Cannot wait for VIR!!!

The garage looks excellent and the Cobra...WOW! After working on cars on a lift, I hate having to use jacks and jack stands, so definitely some envy there. I have to second or third the comments about the lighting. We went from two fluorescent tube lights to six lights and the difference is huge. I'm looking forward to seeing how those track wheels look on the 512.
