Want to buy one for GTA 4, but not sure which one to go for. I've heard good things about both but haven't had much playing time on either. The thing that puts me off about the PS3 is the price. I think I would regret spending that much on something that I'm going to use casually.

The Xbox has great driving games like PGR, Forza and Test Drive. The PS3 has Gran Turismo...and that's it really. It's a great game but I like the PGR series, I think it's more fun.

Anyway, it has to be one or the other - any advice? Are there any 360 owners that wish they got a PS3? Anyone have both? I'm not a serious gamer, just want to have one to play around with.

    Thanks.

    hmm, let's see:

you like the price of the XBox

You like the games on the XBox with PGR

you don't really care about the technology and just want to play

You answered your own question. Maybe wait for the PS3 when it's 1/2 the current price and there's 10x the games available. PS2 games are still outselling the PS3 stuff today.

+1 You really answered your own question. In my opinion (I have a 360) since the PS3 has had a $50 price drop, Im going to buy one. The Nintendo Wii is king in the overall appeal/fun deparment.

Well, you could look at this 2 ways. Either you buy the system coordinating to which games you would play, or buy the system that had the most useful (to you) features. From what I have experienced, the 360 has a much better online playing system and the PS3 is a better built system (IMO). Both play in HD, best if you have a HDTV but still good if you don't. The 360 has Project Gotham 3 and 4 soon to come, Test Drive Unlimited, and Forza Motorsport 2. The PS3 has Formula One Championship and GT4 soon to come. But I have heard that F1 is a really great F1 simulator, maybe you would like to check it out. . . .

Just read up a little on each and find which one would be most useful to you.

I specifically bought an Xbox 360 with wheel/pedals for Forza 2. :) When I'm finished, they will be sold and I will buy a PS3 for GT5. With 600+ cars, it promises to keep us busy for a while.

That´s what i heard but check also the warranty of the 360 because sometimes the "3 lights of the dead" appears and your 360 died...that happened to me but Xbox change it a few weeks later.

The TDU is very cool if you play it online

Agreed. I am still annoyed that GTA4 was pushed back a few months.:(
Still, the XBOX is a good deal for the money, and does have some very good racing games.

I am selling my XBOX after the Halo 3... To get a PS3. I just see more games I like in the PS3 in the next year. And I think in the long run, I see more potential in PS3.

    Huh?

First, GTA4 is not coming out until next year - March. Second, all the demo screenshots that I have seen have been on the XBOX, which (and this is an assumption on my part) means to me that it probably looks better on the XBOX. Third, Microsoft paid RockStar games $50 million for exclusive XBOX content, which means there will be a bunch of stuff in the XBOX version that will not be in the PS3 version.

The GTA4 situation is a boon for the XBOX, not the PS3.

To the OP, I would definitely suggest the XBOX. There are many many more games, the online play is better, the graphics are a toss-up but I think there are more games that look better on XBOX vs. PS3 (and 2% difference in graphics does not make a better system, even if the PS3 is better). It comes down to what games are out and what you will use it for. I think the Bluray and HD-DVD on both systems is meaningless (for me, at least) and I dont care about the home-theatre portion of the PS3, so I think the XBOX 360 is far and away the system to get.

There's a reason the PS3 has been getting demolished in console sales. It's a great technical marvel, but it just does not translate into a great gameplay experience.

Any game that comes out for the PS3 will be on the xbox 360

and the xbox 360 now makes games, for example, forza 2, halo 3, NHL 2007 - 2008 , they only are speacially made for the xbox 360..

PS3, PC, older PS2 & xbox will have for example the nhl 2008 but it will be different

Thanks for all the input from everyone. I'm leaning towards the Xbox right now, seems like the better choice for me. I really want to play online, I've never done that before! Having said that I don't really know a lot about the PS3. What is the home-theatre portion?

Just the fact that you can put your MP3's on it and pictures and such. Sony wanted to make the PS3 a "home theatre appliance". It has a built-in USB hub too, and I believe it can directly read digital memory cards.

    Meh.... who cares?

I buy a game system to play games. I dont expect (or want) it to be a movie player, or a picture repository, or store all my MP3's, or be a hub for my USB devices. I just want it to play games. There *are* some PS3 specific games, F1 comes to mind an there is another (I forget which but a friend has it and its pretty good, but not available on XBOX or Wii). Again, I look at how good is the game system and what games are out there. And by "how good" I dont mean which one can draw more pixels or whatever, I care about which does the better job of what I bought it for, and that is to entertain me.

For online play, the XBOX is the leader amonst the 3 game systems out there. It also leads in game selection and arguably in graphics quality.

I am looking at Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy VIII. I don't play sports games so NHL, NFL, etc doesn't matter to me. That's why I am keeping it until I play Halo 3, and other few games. But in the long run, for me at least, PS3 is better choice.

i have both the xbox 360 and ps3 and i would highly recommend you getting the ps3
    great games are coming out
capability of using bluetooth headset (cellphone) wireless as mic
    wireless controllers
    sheer look

p.s ps3 is fairly new less than one year.. makes sense why they do not have so many racing games unlike xbox

and also if you go with ps3 you are going to save lives. you can download this app for it called folding at home and scientists use its CPU power (6 cores) to calculate various calculations to cure diseases and viruses and etc..

I still haven't made the upgrade yet, I'm still content with my PS2 but I haven't turned it on in months. Lets see what happens with the software titles & I might make a decision within the next couple of months if I decide to step up or not.

I have both. The 360 is fantastic and has great games. Gears of War is the best online shooter ever made. Period. It has not come out of the 360 since I bought it nov 12. Its truly embarassing to say how many hours I have played this game. Call of duty 2 was great also. The warranty for the 360 has been extended to three years due to many three rings of death. Bioshock just came out for 360, fantastic game, little on the short side. You can also buy an hd-dvd drive add-on for $180 from sams club should you buy the 360. Just understand the elite 360 is the only one with hdmi should you want 1080p resolution.

Lair, supposed to be great game for ps3, complete crap. Got four and a half stars out of ten. PS3 has zero games that can compete with any of the top xbox games. I have had it since it came out and still have not bought a single game. I have rented five or six though, thank god I did. It is excellent as a bluray player though. Hangs with the top 1000 dollar players on the market in terms of video resolution.

Lastly, don't forget Halo3. It is the single highest selling game of all-time as of right now. Presold. It comes out on sept. 25. A friend is a tester and said it is truly groundbreaking in many ways.

I've had both and kept the 360. I really enjoy Xbox live and the different aspect that brings to gaming.

Dangerous statement to make in an industry that moves so rapidly. FWIW, I've played Gears extensively, along with COD2 and COD3(which SUCKS!). Hands down the best first person shooter I've played so far is the Call of Duty 4 beta. It's really really good and addictive as all get out. I've had it about a week and I'm not even close to bored with it and the beta only has 3 levels. :)

I bought the 360 because I couldn't wait for the PS3 launch, and later bought the PS3 because of its Blu-ray playability. I added HD-DVD to the 360 to have both formats. Both are worth it, but I realized later that I don't play so many games anymore and they are now collecting dust until Halo 3, GTA4 and Gran Turismo 5 are launched.

So to sum up your post...

-sometime in the future some games that may be good will be coming out
-you can use a bluetooth headset with it (for what reason that is a plus is not clear)
-it has wireless controllers just like the 360 and the Wii
    -and it looks cool
-you can run an application to help biochem companies make money

How about how it does what its supposed to do - play GAMES and have a good selection of FUN games to play!

At E3 this year, there were 61 upcoming XBOX 360 games released/announced/updated incluing Halo 3, Project Gotham Racing 4, and the exclusive XBOX Grand Theft Auto 4 content. There were 42 upcoming PS3 games released/announced/updated. Thats 50% more than the PS3 in favor of the XBOX. And other than the F1 game and Unreal Tournament, what PS3 specific games are out/coming that anyone cares about?

Factor in the price differential and the XBOX360 is the easy choice.
