Increasing attention is now being paid by law enforcement to street racing, and claims of driver recklessness, or worse, on Internet chat groups. All of us have experienced the visceral thrill of driving on the edge. Hopefully, as we mature, we confine it to the track, or to sanctioned events where we do not put others in harm's way.

We cannot, as a community, encourage reckless driving behavior on public thoroughfares, any more than we would condone drunk driving, or other activities which put not just the driver, but others, at mortal risk.

Therefore, F-Chat reserves the right to remove any postings that inappropriately encourage or glorify reckless driving behavior on the streets. Persistent posting of such material may subject such users to temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges on F-Chat, without limiting the other steps F-Chat may take or may be required to take, under compunction of law.

This is now a part of the TOU at FerrariChat. So please use it as a guideline as to what is, and is not allowed here.

It's simple. If you want to drive like a maniac, don't. but if you do anyway, don't post and don't brag. If you are planning a run, that's great. If you are planning on breaking the law during that run, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.

If, when you get back from that run, you have broken the law, KEEP THAT TO YOURSELF TOO.

Thanks guys, your 100% cooperation on this is appreciated.

    Dave M

Very good idea, in theory. In practice, if this becomes a ban on the discussion of how people actually drive their cars because of liability fears, then it's lame.

There's a fine line between writing "I was out on a spirited drive pushing the car and feeling the joy" (good) or "Hey I ran the Ferrari against an Evo and crushed it" (good) and "Yo I drove 180 and cut that guy off...he totally crashed hahahahahaha!" (bad).

As long as we don't A) confuse the good from the bad and B) start falsely pretending that everyone here drives the speed limit all the time and gets all self-rightous whenever anyone makes mention otherwise...then I'm all for it.

Superspeeders <> Ferrarichat, so there's no relevance really.

The rule is logical and just means "DON'T BE STUPID AND POST THE FACT THAT YOU ARE FLAUNTING THE LAW ONLINE" It's actually quite good common sense as long as that's what it's actually intended for...:)

Last thing anyone needs is for someone to get killed and have the DA's office use a post by XYZ on fchat as evidence..."see? here is Mr. XYZ boasting about the fact that he drove 180mph on a highway and cut off a minivan". Then everyone gets sued.

    Post me a link please.

I think it's pretty clear, but I'll re-state it to avoid confuson.

Thanks Dave for reposting that, and hopefully the moderators will follow through with that. This forum (NY Tri-state) gives way too much play to reckless, irresponsible and downright dangerous behavior. I have repeatedly posted responses to guys boasting about doing 150, 160, 180 on public roads deriding them for engaging in such reckless conduct on the highways. I don't care how good a driver someone is. It puts other people's lives needlessly at risk. If you want speed, take it to the track; don't do it on the street. That's my constant message.

I'm glad that F-chat is finally doing something to keep that kind of macho, teenage testosterone crap off this site. It only encourages other idiots to go out and do the same thing.

I too have said this for a few years here, but I was derided as a 'granny' driver by the jackass nitwits that drive and brag about their disregard for the law and other innocent people. A few years ago these 'expert drivers' were riding bicycles, and now they are acting like experienced "piloti", ha !!! This new crackdown on fools is correct.
And, maybe if someone's stupidity results in a death, they will allow you guys to video your experiences in prison and post them on YouTube. You'll have quite a collection after 15 years !!!

It was never the issue you were addressing that was the problem. It was always the fact that you consistently made personal, ad-hominem attacks against people you didn't even know (and under circumstances you knew nothing about), and seem to enjoy leveling personal insults at people with comments like "jackass nitwits". I don't give a rat's a$$ if you don't like someone's driving, it doesn't give you license to throw around personal insults. I believe that too is against Fchat rules. Tell it like it is, "smooth".

As for Dave's new rule, it is without a doubt a good one. I "only" drive a 308, so I couldn't pull these kind of speeds if I tried, and even though many of the "offenders" are friends of mine, I've always questioned (privately) the judgement in boasting about it, but I still step up and defend my friends who get unfairly attacked. All of that said, I would also, however, agree with Noah's caution that it not turn into an unecessary "chilling" of speech. It's a slippery slope....

So just so everyone is aware while BS'in with an old NYSP guy I know I was told that they are starting to monitor various websites and utube video's that have "runs" for different reasons. It appears that there had been complaints from the general public during some of these runs. I asked if there were any specific sites he knew about and he spoke to a NY/NJ Ferrari site and a NY Corvette site. He also said they were watching some "tuner" sites looking for drifter , drags and burnout stuff. So maybe anyone who wants to set up a run should do it through a PM instead of broadcasting it on the site. Keep those plugs fouled by drivin 55 My 2C so enjoy the ride.

    Telling like it is:
1st Paragraph: "...it doesn't give you license to throw around personal insults. ....." Why not !!! Guess you should direct those comments to your friends, too (as they seam to do a lot of chiding.)
2nd Paragraph: "...but I still step up and defend my friends who get unfairly attacked...." Unfairly attacked ????? After they brag/post videos on line about their reckless driving behavior; Give me a break !! They deserved what they got. And, as was noted by someone above, you cannot win. Others have tried, in the past; and poof, they are no longer part of this community.
Perhaps it is their immaturity that causes them to drive the way they do. Either go to a track or AT LEAST do it on a long lonely road and NOT on a road with traffic where you are weaving in and out of traffic, passing cars on the shoulder, etc. and endangering other people. I've seen their posted videos; Mario Andretti they are not.
I would love to see the posts made after some ****** wiped out your friends in a wreck due to high speed stupidity. E.G.: This summer a local kid died in an accident due to booze and excessively high speed. His friends posted on MySpace -- "he died doing what he loved"; I'm sure his mother and father got a lot of comfort from those inane statements.
