Is there any reason why the standard tyres cannot be replaced with Run flat tyres, I have the Challenge syle rims on my 430 and have come to the conclusion that the front rims are vulnerable to pot hole damage... I'm hoping that the run flats may offer some extra protection? Any thoughts......

I've had standard tires on my first F430. I've constantly had problems with pot holes. Two broken tires and one bent rim. I ordered runflat tires on my second F430 and they definitely provide additional protection against pot holes. Unfortunately they cannot be fitted on challenge style rims. Ferrari will not allow you to order runflats with the challenge rims. I honestly do not know the technical reason why they cannot be fitted on the challenge rims when they can be fitted on the standard rims.

Could it be they don't want run-flats for track use?

I don't think that is the reason. Ferrari would have clearly specified it if that was the reason. There isn't a problem to run runflats on the track. Runflats don't have a limitation compared to other F430 tires as far as speed and load are concerned.

Isn't it because when you order the runflats on a new car they include the pressure monitor (which doesn't work with the Challenge syle rims)?

BTW I use the runflats on the track and they are fine

Yep, when you order runflats, they are bundled with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and are only applicable to the "standard" wheels. There must be an issue with the TPMS sensor and the Challenge wheel.

When I ordered my F430, I was told that you couldn't get the TPMS with the Challenge wheels.

hmmm...so much for that theory. Based on that, I have no idea why they don't offer runflats with Challenge wheels, but wish that they did as that's what I would have ordered!

You are right Douglas, but why doesn't the tire pressure monitor system work with the Challenge rims....this is what I would like to know.
