- Brunei McLaren F1's -


Originally 9 McLaren F1's were bought by Prince Jefri: 1 GTR racing car, 1 GT longtail, 3 LM's and 4 normal F1's. Unfortunately it's really hard/almost impossible to get pictures taken in Brunei, but there are some images of the Brunei McLaren's made during their construction in the UK. So most F1's were photographed in the UK.

This car was signed on 12-03-1996 by Michael Schumucher during his visit with then teammate Eddie Irvine to Brunei:

This is the only known F1 to have left the Royal collection. #014 was in the hands of Gary Schaevitz from New York (after 2002) for some time and then put up for sale at Silicon Valley Auto Group. After having spent some time in their showroom it was auctioned by RM Auctions in 2006 in Monterey for $1,705,000. It still had the identification sticker of the tracking system when it was in the Silicon Valley showroom and during :

There is a rumour that this F1 GT has left Brunei and is now in a private collection in England. The current owner's name is believed to be John Studdelhome or Stuttleholm or something like that. But there is no confirmation for this story.

BTW: One of these McLarens was crashed by a mechanic in Brunei, it was sent back to the UK for a rebuild. Perhaps this was the cobalt blue F1 #008?

 

This one was never rebuilt it was sent back to brunei as parts, i often thought about taking the carbon centre console for home but never did.

 

The orange LM car was given to Prince Jefri,s daughter for her 21st birthday Princess Hameda ,funny thing was she couldnt drive and the car was parked outside the front of her house because they thought it looked nice!!

 

lol, that must have been quite a sight. Those Royal houses are pretty impressive.

So, the crashed McLaren stayed in Brunei and new parts were sent over from the UK to fix it, but that never happened? What was the colour of the crashed F1 and how bad was the damage?

I know of the following 288 GTO's, but there might be more. There were 4 GTO's at garage 5, each in a different colour: Red, Indian Blue, Dark Slate and Black.

No the crashed Mclaren was sent back to the UK where it was broken up for parts and the complete car was sent back as spares for the other Mclarens.

 

I would just be happy to see a clear picture of the black/gray with graphics lm.

 

one less F1, that's sad. Do you remember the colour of this car? And roughly when it happened?

 

Too long ago to remember the colour but it was 1997, i do remember that because i was there.
Thats not the only car the cleaners crashed they also wrote off a xj220.

This was Abdul Hakims initials created to look like the bat logo rumor has it he put up the money to make the first batman movies, this logo appeared on nearly all of Hakims cars wether it be stiched in to the seats on the wheel nuts or like the one in the picture which was a badge on some of his cars.

I haven;t come across any website that mentioned dates for the auction(s), only some articles about that one big auction... maybe it was a one time thing..

 

Well i said i would'nt post any pics but i might as well show some which dont give too much away as they are under-exposed etc and sure to keep those who asked for pics happy...well at least for 2 minutes!! and massive Respect to chilidog - keep up the good work as no contract is worth the paper its written on..afterall to the one who calls himself Watchdog...its not military secrets, we are just a bunch of lads chewing the fat about cars and hardly the darkest secrets of brunei expenditure.
