Associated Press Aug 17, 2007 MONTEREY, Calif. A classic Ferrari once owned by Steve McQueen sold for $2.31 million (U.S.) last night at auction. An anonymous car collector who placed a bid by phone bought the 1963 Ferrari Berlinetta Lusso during an auction that drew 800 people to the Monterey Jet Center and attracted spirited bidding, said Christie's spokesman Rik Pike. The sale price was greater than the estimated pre-sale price of $800,000 to $1.2 million, Pike said. "I couldn't be happier for the car and the legacy of Steve McQueen," seller Mike Regalia, who restores cars, said in a telephone interview. "Without his ownership, it never would have received this value." McQueen, who starred in such 1960s films as The Great Escape, Bullitt, Le Mans and The Thomas Crown Affair, got the Ferrari as a gift from his first wife, Neile Adams. The actor, who also raced cars, special-ordered the Lusso's brown metallic paint and beige leather interior. Regalia, of Thousand Oaks, bought the Lusso about a decade ago and spent hundreds of hours restoring it to pristine condition. When asked how much he paid for it, Regalia coyly replied: "A new Lexus would cost more than what I paid.'' McQueen died in 1980, at age 50.
I don't believe it.......now they are selling counterfeit wine (Niagara estates) in China! That country is a disaster...is anything safe? http://www.thestar.com/News/article/247573
I just got back from a family road trip/vacation. The trip included stops at Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, Tobermory and was a full round trip which lasted around 5-6 days. I have a bunch of pics but I thought I would share a small set on this site. "Ferrari prices are on top right now and it seems that this boom will last for long. The benchmark for this market, a Ferrari 250 GTO'62 has changed hands recently for reportedly € 14.0mio+. Chassis 5095GT went from its long time German storage to the UK and hopefully we will see this car soon back on the track." barchetta.cc __________ Now THAT'S a car sale!
I've completely had it with Rogers. For years, I've watched the quality of their products deteriorate and their customer service set new lows in every category. I'm starting to divest of all of my Rogers services: Home phone first, wireless next, then cable. As an example of a new "low" in their standards, I have been trying to CANCEL(!!!) my Rogers home phone now for over an hour. Of course at first I had to go through their excruciatingly slow and redundant voice recognition menu before being transferred. Then obviously I was put immediately into a hold sequence. They have some ridiculous feature now that offers to call you back instead of waiting on hold, so sure I went for it. Imagine then, that when it calls you back, you get the annoying voice recognition computer that puts you back on hold... unbelievable. When a real human finally answered (keep in mind that the voice rec computer was supposedly "routing" me to the cancellation dept.) he proceeds to explain to me that he is not authorized to cancel a service and he must transfer me to a special rep for that. He was kind enough to explain that I will have to give all of my personal information once again, for security reasons of course. And so I continue to wait, not to add a service or features, but to cancel of all things. It's like when you mistakenly enter the wrong building, but the line up to get OUT is a day long. Crazy. But totally expected, as this is just one more in a long list of frustrating experiences with Rogers, which must in total represent DAYS spent dealing with administrative B.S. Which is exactly why I'm canceling everything. Sorry to rant, but figure this is as good a place as any. 1 hour and 6 minutes on hold.. still waiting.....
..upon further research, a better site for my rant would be: http://www.ihaterogers.ca/index.htm So, I apologize. Not that it would help, though. 1 hour and 22 minutes on hold.. still waiting...
I know what you mean. I have been a Rogers client for the longest time (2 cells, cable, homephone, internet, magazines etc.) One rep was such a loser that she wouldnt refund me a $15 dollar mistake that Rogers clearly made! In this day and age when you can take your number elsewhere, Rogers should be careful. Thanks for the site. Great tip!
No kidding. If I get through with them before 5pm (highly doubtful at this point) I'm going straight to a competitor. I think a lot of people that have been with Rogers for a long time (and luckily haven't any admin issues in the past couple of years) really don't realize what they are in for the next time they have to make a change on their account. This is ridiculous, and I was expecting the worst. Not sure what is going on at Rogers, but it sure isn't productivity. Customers and shareholders beware. 2 hours and 16 minutes on hold... still waiting....
We use a Rogers Bundle package at home, so it makes up for the price. I must admit, their cable internet service is pretty fast, and they have the most cell coverage across the country.
To me, I have had minimal problems per say. But I believe you when you say next time I get them to do something to my account i'm in trouble. . The one real problem I had was with their home phone service with that stupid modem. I got it just as they introduced the product. This was when they bought Sprint Canada. I had no house phone for well over a month!!!! What a pain. A very good friend who works at Rogers Home Phone devision helped me out and actually told me that Rogers does in fact have regular "phone plug in the wall" service as oposed to those STUPID home phone modems! They just don't market it. But thats what i got in the end. Right now it's really all convenience. Rogers all-in-one bill is cool for me. But we'll see how long that lasts. Also, speaking of competitors, will it really get any better?
I've been on rogers internet before. Definitely won't go there again. Now I use Telus - way, way faster and never ever goes down. My rogers cellular services is a joke. 3 out of 10 calls are dropped. 2 out of 10 I can't hear the other person or they can't hear me. The other 5 out of 10 they are billing me whole minutes for each partial minute, even if it is 1 or 2 seconds, while some competitors have switched to up-to-the-second billing.
Yes, that's because they own all the lines across the country. That's why They in-turn resell the service to everyone else...
