    my two cents'...

i have had a number of different ragtops over the years and nothing beats the thrill of top down driving (unless you bike i suppose!). however, and this is a big however, as a result of the heat/humidity/fumes/self-consciousness, etc, i tend to restrict most of my topless driving to the hours from 8pm to 8am and weekends, ie almost like a weekend car! given the hours i keep at work, it is actually most days.

there is another however... despite what the manufacturers may say, there will inevitably be a certain degree of what they call scuttle shake. ths may not be apparent when the car is brand new but you will feel it in most of these cars after about a year or so regardless of whether the top is up or not. it is much more apparent if you are the sort who likes to throw your car into corners. any attempt by the manufacturers to deal with it only results in a the car bloating eg. the volvo cabs. having said that, my porker cabrio was fairly well behaved but i didn't own it long enough so i will go with derek's comments.

sorry to sound like wet blanket but it can kill the enjoyment of your car so bear that in mind. i am now driving one with a foldable hardtop which, i believe, will eliminate the issue when the top is up but let's see how it goes in a year or so.

Just celebrated my 1st anniversary as Spider-man. It's been an eventful year, during which I've withstood some pressure and temptation to switch my ride, and which I've also seen some of you change your entire garage (we all know who the guilty ones are). But getting to know you guys is the best thing to have come out of this entire episode. Thanks to you guys, I've been able to ride in a Murcie, Aston, Gallardo, etc. Stuff which most guys can only dream of. And not forgetting the great lunches. It may have taken me more than 20 years to live my dream, but it's worth the wait. Gotta whip out my hankies now... *sob* *sob*

Ok, you can all go ahead and flame me now. Let's see who will fire the 1st shot...

Tell me about scuttle shake! My..... let me c, 15yrs old 964cabriolet has lots of noise coming out esp from the softtop frame. I've pushed it a few times round corners & it's been surprisingly handling it well with finesse though only under tip rather than auto. Ahhh but when the top comes down everything else is forgiven. I can say I'm a topless guy :) had a classic SL & always wanted a cabriolet as a kid. But you'd come home with a greasy face after every drive esp a long one. Our air isn't fantastic. I remember the days when I bike daily, when I reach home & pulled my white shirts from the trouser, they're two tone!

I'm thinking if I can afford it, my next ride would be a Gallardo Spyder or 430 spider. Best of both worlds & daily user but the current SL is nice with the hard-top option. A real cruiser for Penang trips & back. Some boys do KL & back with their top down & they said the faster you go, the dryer you get when it rains!

Smell wise, probably yes esp on older cars & the exhaust they're being fitted. Otherwise I don't think it's much issue.

1st anniversary? Has it been a year now? I can only remember the last major event being the CNY dinner @ your home but we probably met earlier when 355 was the de-rigeur then. The year seems to have been at least triple that.

    Happy Birthday Spidey :)

Hehe, what a coincidence! They had a mini classic show at Gaysorn Bangkok and there was a DeLorean there too. The brushed steel exterior looked very nice; too bad i didn't take pics....
