Yes Jas, one is always lucky when near a 333Sp :). It's one of my top 5 fav competizione cars. I will be honest....I did not know much about the car until Alan DeCadanet sparked it up during the taping of Victory By Design. From that momment it was love at first site/sound. Sound like no other!

    Thanks for the pics! :)

Yes he is. And from what I understand....he's been the owner of some interesting cars in the past including multiple 250 GTO's...

Dan Harrison's F40 in Chicago has done 45k miles ! The techs at Continental have so much experience servicing that car, and others, and have some unique knowledge of what can happen at higher mileage. Car won a platino as well !

Based on what I saw at the National meet first hand, I would trust Tod Ruoti on an F40 above anyone else.

Yuri Spiro's 14,800-mile car is rated by the man as stronger and faster than the day he took delivery of it new. Thus far he claims excellent reliability. The received wisdon from Jim McGhee who developed the cars even before production (and remains a senior technician thus with more experience than any other) is that the cars are coming into their own after several thousand miles of use. I think the key to "good health" is regular use even if the miles are not extreme. Sort of like a doctor would advise regular excercise :) The concept is no different...

As for good techs, each region has its F40 specialists and so every owner will no doubt come up with someone they swear by.

By the way, what is a platino???

A Platino is a platinum award given by the FCA for cars that score 95 points or higher in concours judging. The schedoni manufactured leather plaque has a platinum metal piece on it and its marked platino.

For further clarification, here is the Italian translation for it :

    Principal Translations/Traduzioni principali:
    platino nm platinum (precious metal)

    Additional Translations/Traduzioni aggiuntive:
    platino nm Pt (metallic element)
    platino nm Pt (platinum)
    platino nm Pt
    platino nm Pd (metallic element)
    platino nm Pd (palladium)
    platino (chem) nm platinum

    Hope this helps Joe.

Perhaps I can be forgiven for my ignorance, for my F40 is yet to spend any time upon a Concours field, and with any luck I will not be subjecting it that sort of scrutiny. LOL.

You should try it some time Joe. I've met a ton of nice owners, and there is a place for seeing cars in their close to original state, well preserved....that in itself can be satisfying to a segment of the ferrari community. That being said, one of the highlights of Cavallino this year was witnessing the barn find 166MM in its "found" state....remarkable.

I can easily understand how it can be a satisfying experience, and more power to those of you who enjoy it, but Ive always viewed my F40s as road or driving cars. For one thing all F40s look (almost) identical if unmodified, and if you have a very low-mileage "almost-new" car youre not proving much in my humble opinion by winning a Concours medal. Then too if youve been around the Concours circuit for a while (as I was a number of years ago) it gets a bit old with the same cars tending to show up and the competetive politics that creeps in. Ive had my concours fill and an entire wall in my garage is dedicated to ribbons and trophies. For me, with the F40 its less polishing and more driving, and fortunately in California we have a plethora of regular driving events to choose from, if indeed you wish others' company. Sometimes Im content just going for a blast with my wife, or my son...

I find the old 1971 Miura SV to be a much more interesting Concours candidate by the way, although i have only ever enetered it in one event thus far. If it never enters another it will be able to maintain a 100% record :)

    Utter nonsense (as usual).

READ the preceeding posts and Jas & I have simply engaged in a discussion about our prefered use of our respective F40s. He aparently enjoys the cameraderie of Concours event, and I have been there and prefer to focus on driving my car alone.

At no point does Jas (or anyone else) state an acheivement, which I then proceed to "attempt to belittle". Sour grapes is hardly likely when one is content and doing exactly what they wish. LOL. If anyone has sour grapes, perhaps it is you, as is in fact quite apparent from your rambling, dis-jointed, and rouitinely off-topic musings.

Ahhh, I see Joe. So you have done the Concours scene and won all the ribbons when you wanted to, but now feel the need to look down on those that participate now ? I guess thats the sage experience of an "expert in the making" talking....The funny thing is, in one breath you say

followed by a sentence that proclaims a wall full of concours ribbons and trophies....seems like a case of talking out of both sides of the mouth (or another more distant part of the anatomy)

Trust me Joe, I'll have lots of years to drive the F40...its not going anywhere. As far as competitive politics go, my experience has been the exact opposite. Finally, through a recent concours event, I experienced the joys of tracking....and met some wonderful people in the process. That would never have happened if I had pompously "poo poo'd" the concours event. You should open your mind a little Joe, you're getting stale in your old age LOL/:p

Boy I must say egos are a little fragile around here and we must be feeling a little insecure. LOL.

NOWHERE do insinuate that I look down on concours. Thats one of your own creation... my words were: "I can easily understand how it can be a satisfying experience, and more power to those of you who enjoy it". HOW can that statement be misunderstood. LOL. You said: " You should try it sometime Joe".... accept it graciously if I tell you its no longer for me! To me, an F40 is for driving and i occasionally show older cars. thats my thing, you have yours. Getting upset about it is a lttle immature, especially when you decide for me that I have the need to look down on Concours participants. I suppose in your world if you dont engage in a particular activity, it can only be because you look down upon it! You should open your mind a little. To use your own words in post number 392 of this thread: What a load of bollocks :)

Look, you and Carsinx can work to twist my statements all you want, just as your motives were made clear on this thread in post number 172....

Joe, I stand by everything I ever post, including post 172.

If you want to take subtle digs at people, why not just take it to the pm's and have your go at it ? Alternatively, send me some of those threatening emails you seem to be so good at sending....

PMs would have been a good place for post 172... as to the e-mails: dont be stupid. You are a man of color yourself and Im sure youve endured racism..... or perhaps not? Youre invited to bring the BS to the PMs...

Answer one question Joe....the person you sent those emails to, did they once say anything racist to you directly ? Did they once drop the N-bomb directly at you ? The fact that you chose to attack Harry based on something somebody else he happened to know said, speaks volumes for your shotgun approach to things.

As far as enduring racism myself, I grew up in England in the late 70's when the National Front was in full swing, and just going to school meant a fight and racist taunts daily. I know racism first hand. I don't use it as a crutch, and I don't slander people with it lightly. You should use the same policy instead of using it to attack people who don't neccessarily agree with you on trivial matters such as cars etc.

Since when did race have anything to do with the US model F40? Furthermore, when did concours events and driving become mutually exclusive? I think Jas' approach is a pretty good idea. They are a fine place to meet people, which can open new opportunities to drive. Joe you're so dedicated to documenting what a "proper" US F40 should be, and I'm certain your car is one of the best examples. Maybe it would be a service to the community to use your car as a benchmark (I trust that you are confident in it's perfection).

Just something to think about - I'll bet there are people who enter their F40's in concours events that drive as much as you do Joe.

Geez guys.... you made me go looking for the infamous post # 172.
C'mon Joe! He simply said what we all know. You are a car dealer and you sell exotic cars. This a great thread to pump up the idea that F40's are now more valuable than they were a couple of years ago.
The fact that it has turned into a Joe Sackey thread, where better than half of the 900 odd post are yours goes some way to validating the idea that it is a commercial for you and your expertise on F40's.
We get it. You're da man. You drive your car. Whoop dee doo dah day. For a guy in the business of selling exotic cars to well heeled buyers, you're exhibiting a rather thin skin regarding your potential customers and their opinions. And where on earth did the race issue emerge from? Get over yourself already. Let's talk about cars.....

Here's a pic to get us back on track

    Nice pic. Thanks for posting.

Both guys seem to be equally thin-skinned to me. They seem to be conversing quite well, then take one thing out of context and it degenerates from there. The fact that one's into concours and the other isn't anymore - seemed to so easily spiral out of control... ego's perhaps?

Lets get back to F40 discussions - I like that stuff more :)
