For using new lightweight gearbox that was never crash tested as required by rules.

No wonder the Mclarens were quicker during testing.

Is that a new lightweight gearbox or a remake of a Ferrari F2007 gearbox? lol

...this McLiaren team is really determined to do WHAT EVER IT TAKES to get ahead...even if it includes breaking the rules...AND GETTING CAUGHT IN THE PROCESS!!!

...the look really desperate, I bet you that gearbox is an evolution from the Ferrari -all titanium ingot gearbox...

lets just crush them on the track! ...and on the court rooms, on the road, at local events...

It *has* now passed a crash test:

"On 30th August the McLaren lightweight gearbox passed both a push off test and an impact crash test without any problem under the supervision of the FIA. Consequently the team will use the lightweight gearbox at the Italian Grand Prix."

    No further scandal here.....

The FIA stewards have fined McLaren $50,000 for competing in the Hungarian GP with a revised gearbox that had not been subjected to a new crash test.

The team reverted to the normal gearbox for the Turkish GP, but after passing a subsequent test, will use the lightweight version at Monza once again.

The saga came to light at Monza today when it was learned that the stewards were reviewing the matter. In essence McLaren felt that the new box introduced in Hungary – where Lewis Hamilton won – was not sufficiently different to require a new crash test.

The FIA technical delegate, Jo Bauer, was not told about the changes until Saturday in Hungary. He subsequently took a different view after receiving information from the team just a few days before the Turkish GP, and deemed the mods significant enough to warrant a test. With no time to complete a new test, the team went back to the earlier version for Istanbul.

This afternoon the team issued the following statement, outlining its position: “McLaren would like to emphasize that we have acted in entirely openly, in good faith and in complete compliance with the FIA rules and we are confident that the stewards will come to the same finding.

“On Thursday of the Hungarian Grand Prix, McLaren voluntarily made the FIA aware that the team would be using a new reduced weight gearbox casing. Before qualifying the FIA asked McLaren to supply after the race weekend some documentation concerning the precise changes that had been made. This was supplied before the Turkish Grand Prix, but subsequently McLaren was advised by the FIA that in their opinion the revised gearbox needed to undergo a repeat crash test. As a result the team chose not to use the lightweight gearbox at the Turkish Grand Prix.

“On 30th August the McLaren lightweight gearbox passed both a push off test and an impact crash test without any problem under the supervision of the FIA. Consequently the team will use the lightweight gearbox at the Italian Grand Prix.

In its evidence McLaren pointed out that the original box was of “excessive weight and strength,” as it was designed to comply with a greater crash test requirement than that applied by the FIA this year.

The FIA’s decision said that the test had proved that the gearbox was legal when it ran in Hungary, but said “nothing in this decision is to be taken as condoning the practice of retrospective impact testing resulting in the use of untested components.”

The decision also criticized the team for not making information about the changes available to the FIA at an earlier date.

does anyone see a pattern? <we know we were wrong but decided to tell Fia later, after winning the race>. Just like the Alonshole BS now. <I knew about it, but decided to tell everyone after I am 2nd in the WDC and there are 5 races left>

Seems that McLaren is just going to break as many rules as they possibly can this season.

Talk about self destructing! You'd think that with everything else going on the last thing they'd do is walk on or cross over the line! If I were them I'd be following the book with a magnifying glass to make sure every "t" was crossed and every "I" was dotted.

McCheaters got screwed here. the lightweight gearbox had already been tested and passed muster by Ferrari.

The FIA just doesn't get it. When are they going to stop picking on the McCheater team? Will it never end? :D

    ^lol

I'm just about ready to say screw the season. I'm just tired of hearing about all of the BS. McLaren is a great team with some of the brightest engineers in the business, why resort to this?

you guys crack me up!!!!.........I agree, throw the book at McLaren for cheating and getting caught! but what bothers me is that most of you guys act like Ferrari never cheats, or has cheated in the past......I guess it's one of those things like my dad used to say, "do as I say, not as I do!"...
besides, how meaningful would WDC & WCC be if it was just given to Ferrari??....
