Schumi Defends Alonso

Man I really miss MS. I would have liked to see him fight it out with KR , LH and FA especially now that everyone is on the Bridgestones.

 

So much for all those who think FA was just lucky to have won his two titles.

I'm too young to remember that, I would just like someone to have asked Alonso right after that what he still thought of his "Schumacher is worse than Zidane" comment.

 

Prost and Senna drove each other deliberately off the track and had nothing but bad words for each other at any press conference. Once Senna was no longer a threat (because he died) Prost was going soft and talked about his great friend etc etc.

Schumacher probably didn't mind the Zidane comment too much as Zidane is one of his idols. MS drove Zidane around in his FXX.

I did know about the on-track things between Prost and Senna but didn't know about the change of opinion after Senna's death, doesn't surprise me, it'd be pretty bad to still talk poorly about someone after a death.

 

Some people on this board repeat that ridiculous and unsporting fabrication with incredible frequency (about half their posts), hoping to make it become true through repetition. They need help.

 

On track Alonso is a great driver and a fierce competitor. He has incredible car control . Just watch him during warmup laps how he flings his car from side to side trying to warm up the tires. However his actions in Hungary and all the quotes attributed to him make him less than the perfect driver in my book.

The only Ferrari opponent that earned my respect was Mika Hakkinen. No mind games,no excuses and no BS off track. He just got in the car and drove and When he lost he just took it with grace.
Lewis Hamilton is getting up there too with me . I think he'll take all of MS records by the time he's done with F-1 and he'll be one of the greats unlike Alonso not matter how many championships he wins.

That sounds perfectly reasonable, and you might well be right.

I am not saying that FA is perfect or that he will be one of the greats (although he still is the youngest WDC); I am just saying that it is ridiculous to assert that he won two WDC's by chance. It appears that MS agrees with me.

Very well stated. Alonso in the car regardless of what is happening right now with Hamilton is a joy to watch, very smooth and precise.

 

Actually Senna and Prost settled their differences once Prost retired, they did in fact become sincere friends before Senna's death and Prost acted as a pallbearer at the funeral.

It is indeed, which is why I'd like to know where it came from. Not that I doubt it (MS said all along that he retires once he gets beaten by a younger driver), but I'd like to be able to quote it again at some future point. Because rest assured somebody will come on here again and say FA was just lucky and it was other reasons that caused MS to retire.

Yes, but not quite yet. They are too busy right now believing everything that comes out in the press, and fabricating very inventive conspiracy theories.

I do hope that if and when they do respond, they will use their fertile and elegant wit to invent yet another obscene and juvenile moniker for FA, as the current one is becoming a bit tiresome.

 

I don't believe FA was lucky, I acknowledge that he had competition. In 2005 Ferrari and Bridgestone were off, he still had to be McLaren. In 2006, I still think MS would have won if Japan hadn't happened, but FA still needed to accumulate enough points to win the championship. He won 2 championships and is one of the three fastest drivers in F1, probably the most complete.

I don't like him either: he is an arrogant and ungrateful young man with much to learn. But he is also an extraordinary driver, he is a pleasure to watch on the circuit, and he will always be able to say that he pushed the greatest one into retirement.
