Wrap it well in a thick plastic, then in a metal box like an old ammo box from the army? Or a safe? The solution will have to last a full year including a winter.

Odd question, yeah yeah, are there any ideas?

I would think as long as you keep it dry you should not have any problems. Wrap it in a ziplock bag and get your shovels out. An old army ammo box would be a nice plus. That will keep the neighbor's dog out of the equation.

    Please post your address:D

PS: Do you freeze your credit cards in a glass of water so it's a ***** to use it on a whim?

Why the hell is the 'B' word sensored on this board? A Vet could not even have a complete post in mentioning a procedure on a female dog!

It would be good to remember where you buried it. Like a treasure map.

But then, many Americans do not have or cannot afford a map. In South Africa, many of the tribes scratch their maps in the sand. However, when the desert winds blow in Iraq, the maps can become obliterated, therefore we Americans should work together with the rest of the world to make our lives better.

    The end.

You mean, such as in tribal Africa we should work together to make for Kazhikstan to be like better for the children? Maps are like money so like when you, uh, bury the map go to South Africa to dig it up and tall them they need to work together also. But, I'd vote for S.C. , she smiled through the whole answer, and sounded really good on the today show re-answering it. Now the address please.

That is odd. But it got a good chuckle out of me!

On subject: I buried a bunch of loot once. I wrapped it in plastic, put it in ziplock bags, then put it all in a tupperware container.
After about three months, I got nervous (what if it gets wet, and molds? What if I get hurt and forget where it is? etc...) and I dug it up.
It smelled slightly damp, but was fine.

I have two very thick plastic bags, the ammo box which seems to be air tight, the weren't any air bubbles when I held it under water at a few different angles. What about permafrost? How far down? Permafrost can get to what? 15 feet? Should it be below this line or does it matter?

Credit cards are kept in my pocket or kitchen table.

I'll post them map when it's done so there can be like an international neighborhood watch program. There's safety in numbers.

I would put in some Silica Gel Desiccants in each layer of plastic bag and in the container itself.

I would vacuum seal the plastic bags.

He deeper you bury the box the less oxygen...........

Stick it in a freezer bag, then into your ammo box with some extra sealant just to be safe (clear caulking), then dig a hole and put a wooden box in the hole. Stick your ammo box in the wooden box and cover it up.

Make sure you bury it at least 6' deep or some twit with a metal detector will find it :D I have friends that dig up money all the time. Also, leave NO MARKINGS anywhere near it. Take pictures of the area or something, but for God sakes don't make a f'n map...

Thanks for the depth remark. But I must make a map, the FChat police have already been contacted and they're very happy to watch over the property for FREE! Wow, such amazing guys.

How on earth do you accumulate enough cash to have to bury some?

It is reputed that the metal detectors work much better on coinage than with paper bills. Of course, you have that front covered it you use the ammo box.

Are you by any chance a self-employeed pharmaceutical sales person?

Just put it in a rubbermaid type container with some dessicant inside and bury it already. If you are trying to hide some assets in a safe place it might be worth trying something a little more creative. Buy some platinum wire, bend it into a clothes hangers, paint it white and put it in the back of the closet.

It might be easier to convert the paper money into gold coins before putting it into the ground.
It should take up less room and be less susceptible to moisture, etc.

Currently the purchase price for American Eagle 1 oz coins is around $743 (you can sell it back today around $701, so there is a 5% or so fee).

Plus, given the way things are going these days, you might make 10% ROI on your "underground holdings".

If you don't have a gold dealer nearby, you can buy it on the web at places like Kitco:
    https://online.kitco.com/sellprice/completelist.html

    Just an idea.

No, just a lot of random type knowledge and ideas.

Along similar lines the physicist Niels Bohr dissolved his gold in aqua regia (mix of nitric and hydrochloric acid) when he fled Nazi occupied Copenhagen, when Denmark was liberated he recovered the gold which he had left in a jar in a back shelf in his laboratory. If you have any practical chemistry experience it might be worth a try depending on how serious you might be about this thing.

I bought my first house at 18 in 1970. There was some history of an eccentric old man who lived there in the 50's and 60's. We tore down an old shed to build a deck that hung off a cliff without support. We started off of 28 4x4's set in concrete. A lot of holes. We found some broken glass pill bottles with bills so far gone you could hardly tell what they were. As we dug, we found more. Intact glass bottles with plastic snap caps. Money was rolled tight and was damp. When we laid it flat it dried and curled back the way we found it. If you handled it, it would fall apart. We took 2 grocery bags of curled up money to the bank. They asked a few questions and I just kept saying, " It's not in very good shape is it." In the end it was about $4K. How much was in broken bottles that had been stuffed into the block foundation of the old shed? I don't know but we stopped building and dug till we felt silly. A pharmacist said the bottles were from the mid 50's. It more than paid for the deck.
