I am there as well. Will be using the evo X for daily driving and track use. Still trying to decide between 5 speed manual vs 6 speed sst... I think this car is going to be great- s-awc, regular back seats, turbo 4 over 300 hp. Can't wait.

+1. The X sounds cool but I'll always have a love for the VIII and IX

Well when Frank trades the $80k+ M5 in on the $35k Evo I'm sure he'll have some change to cover the insurance! :D

So am I as a matter of fact. Best Evo? Evo VI TME, the end, thank you for playing. :D

Getting back to Frank's post, the Evo X is a good car, and I'm seriously contemplating trading my '05 WRX for it - *but* there are many considerations. My WRX is modded enough to blow the doors off the Evo in a straight line and more-or-less keep up in the corners. So the Evo X, if I keep it stock, will be a step down performance-wise.

Stock the Evo X "only" has 300 hp. Granted they may be understating that, but taking it at face value it loses to the upcoming STI (320 hp at least). Plus the STI has a 2.5l engine, meaning more torque, hence more fun as a daily driver. Evo will most likely continue winning the handling contest, of course.

The real beauty of the Evo has always been its moddability (i.e specific hp increase/dollar) - significantly better than the STI and way better than the WRX. Question is, does that apply to the new 4b11, which is basically an unproven platform when you compare it with the awesome 4g63. Hmmm...

But all that having been said, I have to concede, the new Evo X is a looker, sort of space-age elegance. I didn't think it possible, but Subaru has screwed up the design of the new STI (the hatch) even more than the current one, so that it now looks exactly like a dog turd.

You aren't kidding re the styling on the STI. The 06 was bad enough but the new look is brutal... Totally uninspired. I would imagine that the 4b11 will have great tuner support, it will just take some time.

I think the 07 STI looks amazing. A guy at the local car club has one and I always find myself drooling. Theres also a GT30R Evo with some AMS goodies. Dont they have a hard time keeping them together with alot of power? Everyone always says the DSM's are terriable.

Well, there's no accounting for taste. :D I think of the 07 STI as being a bad rip-off of the Alfa front end. Locally, we call it "pig-nose" and that needs no explanation. :D

Sometimes I think the 05 Impreza (the one I drive) is the best looking model in recent times (the GD line). The old GC WRXs had a different sort of understated class, they were attractive in their own right. But starting from the bugeyes, the Impreza styling has been a bit...dodgy (except maybe the 05s).

Not really, the 4G63 is pretty bulletproof in terms of moddability. Plenty of *other* things go wrong with the Evo, including clutches that last less than 1000 miles, but the engine is fantastic. 500 (crank) hp is easily achievable. 1000 hp takes work, but the engine will hold it.

The clutch hydraulics are the culprit, there. Too many street racers trying to side-step the clutch on an AWD: on STis, the transmisions fragged, on the EVO VIII, they installed a clutch damper to slow clutch engagement, resulting in burned clutches ---- even from normal (but quick) shifts. It's nearly impossible to get a smooth, matched shift out of that clutch mechanism.

At the next service, I'm going to ask the dealer if they can tone down the clutch damper. (There are aftermarket mod directions on the EVO forums, but I'm too old and too busy to do much modding on my own ... especially before the warranty runs out.)

As for "daily driver" -- the funny thing is that my EVO VIII has been sitting in the garage all week.
I've been driving the Ferrari daily. ;)
(The cable operated clutch is much nicer, too.)

Only 1000 miles on a clutch!...that can't be the case with a stock EVO....I wonder how the new new DCG clutch will hold up?

Yes but it's also bigger than previous platforms. I'm sure it will be a great car, and I'm glad that many also think so. More VIII's and IX's for me to choose from!

Ive heard the issue about the clutch before. From my understanding its from hard launches and driving it hard. But who wouldnt want to drive it hard. 1000hp takes from what Ive seen a stroker block and alot of boost. A two step evo the is pretty freaking cool.

Actually your right.. I just ordered a beautiful cadillac CTS AWD 304hp 18 inch rims, sports suspension and brake package..

Should be delivered in about 6 to 8 weeks.

Silver exterior and black interior ...but that said I can admire other peoples choices and enjoy what they chose even if its different than what I ordered up.
