    Well, it's finally here.
After much sussing out, coming up with the "Readies" and extended sea freight my new car is here.
I have sourced it from the UK.
I was after a glass car, carbs and dry sump. It also has 16's, and the deep front spoiler. Perfect for the track.
I had previously owned a 308GTSQV for about ten years. Drove it to work every day. Sold it about 4 years ago to get something newer.

I currently run a Alfa 105GTV in Historic's and was due for the big engine rebuild etc to get to the next level.
After much soul searching I decided to get another 308 for the Historic's.
I figure a much more capable car in standard form to build on than putting the money into the 105, allthough I must say that the 105 is still a blast, just a different car.
The car has been slightly tracked in the past, has a half cage and harnesses.
All of this will have to go to comply with the Cams rules for Historic's in OZ. It will need a full cage etc.

I have spent hundreds of hours already going over it (or under it I should say). Running in Regularity @ Eastern Creek Historic's next week to start sorting it out.
The suspension is next. Replace all bushings, shocks, springs etc (they need it) sandblast wishbones and powder coat etc.
That will happen over the next couple of months.
I have been reading a lot of posts on suspension upgrades. Any personal experiences and your thoughts on the best way to go for the track would be appreciated.

One of the first things I have done is the freeing up of the airbox. Mine was heavily restricted.
See here for the before and after: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49407&page=16
Bloody loud now, but fantastic nevertheless and breathes really well.

    No, not this time.
Will probably spend most of Oct/Nov doing the suspension I reckon.
Then I will have to get on with the cage.
It will be a bit of a nightmare.
I went down your way in March for the Phillip Island event. Ran the Alfa in group N.
    It was a great weekend.
Certainly want to do it again next year and indeed in the Ferrari.
If I don't have it ready in time I will go for Regularity.
If I do get my A into G then it will run in Sc.
It will take a bit of work to get it caged and race seat and harnesses etc ready to comply for Sc.
I will just see how it goes.

Yeah, My QV came with one also.
They look great but are a pain in the ar*e around town.
Swapped it out after 9 months on the QV for the standard spoiler.
I will persist with this one though as it will make it a better track car with the deep front spoiler.

    Good on ya.
It is great fun and great comeraderie.
Might be a bit lonely with the Ferrari though as there aren't many of them running.
The Alfa group I run with is a great band of guys. They reckon I can still hang around as it is an Italian car also.
    Sounds fair to me.
Do you do any racing at the moment?

There's also a crowd up here called FOSC or Festival of Sporting Cars.
    Good blokes.
Based on the MG car club.
They just try to run a no nonsense historic's style meet.
They do a good job and is resonably priced. You also get more races per weekend.
At their recent round @ Oran Park they had about 220 entrants.
They are also running an event next year @ Bathurst. That will be a great one.
I can just see the 512 running around Mt Panorama!
Even if I don't get my car ready in time I will put it in for Regularity.

nice car Steve. i saw it advertised in the UK a little while back. i think FF pointed it out.
pity about the FOSC Bathurst event being run at Easter time as it will compete with the historics at Mallala. there's only so many historic weekends per year and they have to clash. oh well, hopefully there's enough old racing cars to go around.

Very nice Corsa! The previous owner of my parents' house had a 308 and 328 in the garage (this is in the late 80's). If only they aren't so high maintanence, I would love to own one.

Yeah, I had a chat to Phil about it. He used to work on it some years ago.
That and other reasons made me go for it.
It is a sweet car, and will hopefully be sweeter once I have finsihed. If you ever do finish.

I've been around Bathurst when the East Coast Targa was running.
Due to stupid rules we couldn't run the entire length, only sections of it.
    Great track though.
Running the full length will be a great opportunity. Every boy's dream.
I'm sure it will attract many entrants including overseas. Will be good just to be there just the like this years PI. They had over 520 entrants.

    My QV wasn't high maintenance.
Had it for ten years, drove it most days to work. The only thing it didn't like was 40 degree days.
Just have to drive them and not leave them sitting around.
Put on about 70,000 k's in ten years.
The only thing that broke over that time was a drop gear. That's all. Sourced a second hand one from the states.
Ended up doing most of the maintenance myself.
Thats why I was OK going back to a 308 be it the previous was injected and this is a carbed car. Easy to understand and fairly bulletproof.

But you are talking to a guy who doesn't even open the bonnet here. :( Btw, I was on a track day in Sandown a couple of years ago and a 308 left the track after it's wheels came off!

Come on! Open the bonnet and get into it!

On every track day at least a couple of cars lose their wheels.
Some guys can't help themselves changing this and tweaking that.
Just opens the door for a mistake when you forget to check something.
I reckon most of those "wheels off" moments aren't due to a mechanical failure and just a "whoops".

As per the Weber thread this arvo.
140's and 170's. I reckon they are too rich also, but will wait until I can get hold of an AF meter.
Any suggestions of a portable AF meter to buy?
