Hello all! Sadly the summer is coming to an end and I was out for one of the last cruises in the 355 after it was sitting for a month or so. Got married in July and was so busy that the Fcar was not getting the attention she deserved. It is running excellent especially after Tom B went through everything from the belt service to the manifolds etc etc. I am thinking of upgrading to an early Diablo RWD... Is it better to keep the 355 or sell and get a Diablo?? what do you all think?
Man, hard choice. I love the 355. However, the Diablo is amazing. Go for the change and get a Diablo! Wiked raw power!
I'd get the Diablo, but then again I don't know how much extra $$ you'll need for repairs/service on an older model?? Just make sure its Orange!
The Diablo definately has the raw power and looks which will never grow old and is personally one of my favourite exotics. Although, it would probly be best for you to test drive one and see how it appeals to you before making a decision.
I drove a nice 92 Diablo which was White on White leather and such a stunner. Pedals are quite offset and you feel like you are in a spaceship compared to the 355 but when you put your foot down a bit, its just a beast with tons of raw cojones. the 355 sounds so sweet though with the Tubi and when it revs in the higher ranges... The Diablo seems expensive to repair but the 355 hasnt exactly been a walk in the park considering that since I have had the car, we have done the valve guides, manifolds, tubi, belt service, clutch, tires, brakes etc. Adds up quick but now the car is sorted and running so well I am reluctant to sell and then get another car and go through it all again not sure!
Dont think the older ones come in Orange (?) I thought its only the 6.0. Could be wrong though. Go for the Diablo! Black/Black
How's the value of Diablo (depending on yr) compared to your 355 now? The 355 is a nice, compact car that you can live with anywhere while the diablo would require more attention down to choosing your parking. But if it's a non-daily, find a sorted diablo & I'm sure you'll be grinning.
I agree.. though I purchased my Lambo (99 SV) first... then decided to get either a 355 or 348... finally resting at a 348. The diablo is simply amazing....as is the 348... Life is short, do what makes you happy!
Agree. The Diablo will be a pain in the city and out and around town. For sure a highway curser compared to your 355. I think the main thing is what does your new bride think ? Do you want all the attention the Diablo brings? Given that you will have to add some serious coin to get into a Diablo are you sure you will get the value to pleasure ratio? Either way, enjoy in good health !! Id keep the 355
Good points brother. But remember way back when you told me you really wanted to drive a Diablo? You were just very curious (with good reason). Well I am not sure if you have driven one since we spoke about it. But let me tell you it's an awesome ride. It really is....
They are all awesome when you drive them for 5 minutes, its which ones can you live with thats important. I would find it hard to live with a lambo. It takes a special person to be with them, im not one of them.
I don't know too much about Lambo's, are they any good? How are the V12 engines in the Diablo's? Are they steady and reliable? -- On a scale of 1-10. 1 Being a piece of rusty rattling junk, 10 being perfect and long lasting.
Couldnt tell ya...gotta figure they are similar as an fcar when it comes to parts and labor prices. By living with them, i meant they are very much the attention getter and road stopper. They are a very loud looking car, it takes a special person to live with that type of hard attention. I am not one of them. I kinda of like the lower key attention...the "glass" car gets no looks at all on the road ....355s are about the same, low guy looks, the Diablo, Murc...people STARE....stop traffic...point...walk up to your window...you know...attention grabber car that a ferrari 355 would not get. Some people are great at it....unfortunately, i am not.
So what you're saying is that a Red Testarossa doesn't draw hard attention? I think it does! Something like a Porsche 911 TT or even a Merecedes SL draw lower key attention.
A friend of mine who buys and sells exotics said to me once "if you ever want a car you cant sell, buy a diablo". Apparently they are a tough one to resell but im sure some wanker will come on here and tell me im wrong. I was just passing the info on, not sure of the reason though but I always like to own something I wont be stuck with in the off chance I lose interest and want something different in a years time.
hmmmm third person in the last two weeks looking for a diablo. IMO diablo's are a totally different car to the diablo by which i mean, day to day driveability,power etc., I would trade in the 355 to me and get a diablo. OR just spend $15,000 more and get a gallardo.
Not sure, there are a few guys on this site alone looking for Diablo's. Good ones are going up in price and hard to get.
I don't base my experience on 5 minute blasts. The 2001 6.0 I have driven countless times. Yes, a 92 I drove for 5 minutes (still awesome ). i dont think they are as bad as you thing. The testa can easily be as eye catching. Not sure what you want when you are driving an exotic...
i dont think a tr gets half as much attention as a Diablo...and the older 308s, 328 get even less. What i meant by 5 minutes is most test drives or seat time in these cars are short...they all drive great..onve you get past the boner of an exotic, you can then make an intelligent decision on whether you like/love the car to purchase...majority of people dont...thats what i meant by 5 minites.
Funny enough, when I bought a TR a few yrs back I really didnt like it during the first five minutes of driving it. Bought it anyway as I loved the way it looked and sounded and within a few weeks I absolutely loved driving it...I mean you actually have to drive it and pay attention as opposed to many 'modern sportscars'. The 355 is a lot easier to drive and manouver but that was part of the TR's appeal to me... I know there will be another TR in the future, just dont know when!
