Which tells ya all ya need to know about Clarkson's cred.

Look, I love the guy and Top Gear. Although I think Tiff and the 5th Gear crew do much better. But no one in his right mind trusts the pundits. Two words: Vested Interests.

    Nuff said?

    Peace,

    Richard.

Poor comparo. Try a 997. Or better ... a Superleggera. Or any number of cars I could name.

The Scud has only one advantage over Porsche .... the F1 tranny. And some consider it a disadvantage. But i'm NOT one of them. <chuckle>

BTW, it seems that the PDK is just around the corner. If Porsche where to announce a 997 w/PDK for '08 the Scud would be in deep trouble.

    Peace,

    Richard.

Here's one for ya: Four (at different times) GT3s arrive @PIR during the beginning of the HPDE season. Within 3 or so HPDEs, 3 of them are totally trashed! By Instructor/Advanced level drivers. Not run of the mill participants. And I can't tell you how many times my F430F1 CCBs, etc, has come too freakin close to spitting me off. These cars @10/10ths are wiiild. That's part of what makes them so much fun.

    Peace,

    Richard.

Sorry, I call BS. Please see my post #29 in this thread.

Doesn't the definition of nostalgia imply a subjective, ergo; not necessarily factual, look at the past?

Kinda/sorta like the old curmudgeon who states that "In the good ole days, our wimmins could walk the streets safely at night." <lol>

Seriously; i'd like to see you keep up w/an expertly driven 997 in an "early 911."

    Peace,

    Richard.

    Well, I did it.

I sold my 360CS and got myself a new 2007 - 911 GT3 RS. It was tough to find one and I paid a pretty large premium. I realy didn't do it because either car is better than the other, I did it because my new F430 Spyder is at the port and I should have it in a few days and I thought they were too similar. Also, I wanted a stick (all my cars have some sort of paddle system).

In addition, I just finished the Ferrari Challenge Rally of the Virginias in the 360CS and thought that would be the perfect send off.

OK now try this one. Superleggera -vs- 911 (997) GT3 RS - vs - 430S. I have 2 (or will in a couple of days), and should have the 430S shortly after it starts getting delivered. My guess is the 430S will be the best.

    Sounds great although i think a real comparison would be: Gallardo SL - 430Scuderia - 997 GT2 ! (instead of gt3rs)

Beautiful collection of cars, exactly my taste ;) And I know what you are talking about with the GT2, I have a RUF R-GT2 that is absolutely NUTTY fast with Moton's, Clubsport rollcage, GT3 seats, RUF LWFW and clutch and you name it... The car is so precise and predictable, so much mechanical grip its ridiculous, an absolute go kart like thrill ride! Most people have an instant fear before hopping in, the car and car's like these do not need TC IMO, but hey its subjective! You should buy my GT2 so I can get my Challenge Stradale lol :/

Replying to my own question. I just finished the Ferrari Challenge Rally of the Virginias in my 360CS. When I got home today, I immediately sold my CS and bought a new 2007 911 (997) GT3 RS. Even though it looks a little like a VW Bug, it is simply the most fun on 4 wheels. Period. What a great car!!!

Wowsww what a twist to the equation! As far as all out driving thrill i would thing all of the Gat cars are winners, am i crazy to go from a RUF tuned Gat2 to a Challenge Stradale then? People often think I am and they aren't Porsche owners, I find myself questioning why I want one so badly and its really because of the damn beauty and sound/overall thrill! Will I grow out of it a month later? LOL just want some insight since you made such a fast transition to An RS!

VW Bug! Well today I went to an Italian restaurant and one of the owners thought that I was driving a Corvette, what an insult to my F430.

On paper the cars are so close that if we were in a Lambo forum the SL would win. In a Porsche forum the 997.

The make or break point comes down to suspension .... the Scud does not appear to have any fully adjustable suspension options. So, like the F430F1 before it .... Great streetable car. Great track car on the smoothest tracks. Otherwise .... it gets smoked!

    Peace,

    Richard.

Love Porsches .... but alas .... no PDK; yet. Makes them of no real interest to me.

BTW, why would you want to trade your GT2 for a CS? Sounds like your Porsche would be so much more fun?

    Richard.

I've had that happen also. I didn't feel insulted. They both look similar. And they both perform similar tasks. Then again I didn't buy my F430F1 for the attention, etc. In fact I struggled w/that prob. And sometimes do regret it. It's mostly a major PITA.

Then I go off for a drive down an empty mnt road. And I no longer regret it. <chuckle>

    Peace,

    Richard.

Richard if I could tell you, I wouldn't be looking and driving 100 other car's to see what I want next! BUT I will say this, every time I go test drive another sportscar or exotic, I fall in love with my car 10x more and have a new appreciation for it. The Challenge Stradale just has this Aura about it, it lures me in and doesn't let up, it's so pure and the damn sexiest car on the planet IMO, I feel it will be a similar driving experience to my GT2, minus the Turbos!

Loved the CLk Black Series today too, but again not even in the same ball park as the car's mentioned!

My hobby is to drive on trackdays/clubsport events and there really are only very few cars, which are actually suitable for "racing" whithout modifying a lot. Most sportscars are pretty dissappointing – sadly.

I would like to have some experiences from someone who has driven both cars on the track. I had a couple of Carrera RS and a Cup and now ordered a GT3 RS which I will get in January. They say it's fabulous and it has a traction control suitable for racetracks which I didn't have in my older, actually "purer" RS models (964). It's not only faster, I hope my driving skills will improve with it because I tend to only go to the limit from below... :)

I always loved the F-cars too and the CS of course is one of my favourites - but I never owned one. Only in the recent years the F-cars developped to track-usable sportscars. But up to now, I actually always was a bit dissappointed of my co-racers driving in them. What are your experiences???

    Best regards, Martin

    Very interesting thread...

I have a 997RS. Had a 996RS before that. Got a Scuderia on order. I tracked the 996RS at all the major UK and European circuits.

In my experience the 996RS has a major advantage over the 360CS (and the 997RS) - The availability of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres. They are simply amazing tyres on a dry track. Slick like levels of grip.

When combined with 2 or 3 degrees of negative camber (and a bit of rear toe in) 996RS are about the fastest street legal sports cars I've seen.

In the Porsche community there are plenty of specialists who help RS owners get the most of out trackdays. I'm hoping the Ferrari community will be the same. I guess there is always the race teams who run 430 in FIA GT, ALMS etc... Those guys must know how to set up a 430 for the track.

You can put slicks on a CS (430 CH size), but availability can be a bit of a problem. The CS is a very quick car on slicks, but most of the local track day nuts where I am graduated to full on challenge cars. In the top two run groups that we run, its pretty much all race cars. I bought a 430 CH and have stopped tracking the CS. The 430S will no doubt be a great road/track car. The challenge is great track car, very controllable at the limit. Perhaps a little scary in very fast corners, but no where like as scary the 360CH. The challenge slicks will also likely fit on a 430S, a second set of rims plus those and you'll likely be nearly as quick as a full challenge car.

It is worth noting that at watkins glen peak speeds are well north of 150mph, which is a primary factor for me at least in having a car with a full roll cage. Also worth noting that my CH was notably quicker than an enzo that was in the red run group :)

The slicks are only intermittently available because the challenge guys get preferrence, so when they became available I bought 4 sets.

Slicks sound good Dan. What's the cost and how long do they last if you don't mind me asking? Also what do you do if it rains? How do your challenge cars compare of GT3RS's?

Tell me - can you adjust the suspension on the 360CS/430S? In Porsche land you simply add some negative camber (2.5 to 3 degrees) and rear toe and away you go.

A Challenge car would be fantastic but I really like driving these cars on the road too.
