Thanks for bringing that to our attention David: my wife says there was an article in the magazine too. You think Automobile Magazine will sue me for plagiarism for posting this image here? LOL. I see people posting my copyrighted Galleria images all over the place, and Im not too fazed. Here it is anyway.... Joe www.joesackey.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually ... although my answer would still be no ... what if Joe's customer offers someone $550,000? Not saying he would but do any of the owners have a price they would take? I don't even know what my price would be ...
jeffrey I would not sell for a 10 or 20% premium. I get more out if just looking at it, let alone driving it. If it was stock certificate, or a bond, I'd say yes of course its all yours. I guess at some price point I'd have to say yes, but then I'd just take the money and go find another car, and hope I'd come out ahead in the deal. Personally, I wish I had 2.
I'm sure there is a price for every car. I know what my price is and I also know that if the F40 goes it has to go with the F50, which together is really big number, but a number nevertheless.
That is the way I have chosen to offer my cars. I have several matching pairs and a lot of interest in them from collectors who can acquire two significant vehicles in one shot. Other pairs I am offering are a Gullwing and Roadster together and a pair of Jaguars - XK120 DHC and XKE OTC
Very true. But unlikely anyone would meet a price that would separate me from my car... at least for now...
There is a 1991 F40 that is coming up at the next Mecum auction (Dana Mecum's own car) and it has 4,500 miles and a Tubi sport exhaust. www.mecumauctions.com Jeffrey (or any other F40 owner) you never know if youre going to see pics of yourself on this thread so youd better behave in public Seriously though, Im proud of this thread and grateful for everyone's input. I believe its a real resource for F40 owners and enthusiasts alike, and its good to see it doing well (20,000 plus views - wow) despite some fairly significant opposition along the way - I think it'll thrive and flourish for as long as we want it to.... Frefan I dont blame you for just looking at the thing.... I cannot think of a more purposeful looking Ferrari that just oozes speed from every carbon fibre crevice. Just standing there in the garage the F40 looks dangerously fast. I know that when the chips are down (and they are now that he is restructuring his eclectic collection) 410 SA rates his F40 highly and I dont disagree with his carefully considered numbers. Find another pristine example that comes along with an F50 for good measure... Simon F40, Jeffrey, Frefan and 410 SA are all F40 owners all saying the same thing: the car is special and youd have to really step up to get mine - and any F40 owner who tells you different is.... well, I dont need to spell it out here In fact, I note that F40 owners are a breed of ultra-enthusiasts, well-informed about both the cars and the market, and can afford to own these cars comfortably. A far cry from the situation in 1991 when the marketplace was propped up by financed cars and speculator owners who couldnt tell Ferrari from a Ford. Read Sheehan Speaks in this month's Sports Car Market and youll see that the consensus is that the Ferrari market is in fact not even close to its 1990 levels - a truism when I note that Paul Allen paid one million dollars in cold hard cash for my F40 in 1990. http://www.sportscarmarket.com/Sheehan-Speaks/2007/October// Factor in inflation over time since 1990 and one can easily see that the myth of a market that is currently hyped up may be just that: a myth. I agree with you Joe. Today's market is a very different market from the early 90's. I think the valuations - while inflated to some - are real values that will likely hold or continue to rise. They are not inflated because of speculation. The exotic/supercar market continues to thrive largely due to emerging markets - China and Russia to name two. The wealth that is coming out of those two markets has gobbled up regular production leading Ferrari to increase their production beyond 5000 cars (a number they previously vowed never to exceed). Furthermore, these markets are also drawn to some of the classics. I have personally heard of half a dozen supercars (288/F40/F50) that have left the country in the past 12 months. I believe that trend will continue which will make the few US spec supercars (not including the 288) infinitely more desirable.
I forgot to mention in my earlier post what USA F40 "done deals" I have first-hand clarification of: 405 mile car sold by Silicon Valley Auto Group in late August - $735,000 600 mile car sold by Family Classic Cars in early September - $675,000 7,500 mile car sold by Symbolic Motorcar Co in early September - $500,000 4,500 mile car brokered by Symbolic Motorcar Co in late August - $525,000 2,000 mile car brokered by yours truly in early September - $550,000 There are a few others but you get the idea. The cars are still mileage-sensitive but as values increase and the car has now celebrated its 20th anniversary and is perceived as a classic, that will change. Million dollar F40s of 1990 are nowhere in sight so maybe the cars are in fact priced where they should be, or less. Lets not forget that there are only 213 (211) examples of a USA F40 in existence worldwide. Joe www.joesackey.com
But shouldn't real enthusiasts be driving their cars instead of looking at this thread ? Isn't that what real enthusiasts do Joe ? As long as you still own a computer, this thread is in no danger of dying....word of advice....don't dislocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back....it will affect your typing and THEN the thread will definitely be endangered...
you really dont know when to quit do you ? look we'll never all agree on everything (and life would be boring if we did), but there is no need to act like we are all in the schoolyard shouting abuse at the kids we dont like. so come on do us all a favour and quit the veiled insults and digs and lets all play nicely.
I agree with Nick. Those of us fortunate enough to own a F40 are likely an opinionated lot. We didn't achieve the success we have by sitting quietly on the sidelines. Regardless of the motivation for some of the posts herein I think the BIG picture is that the thread has been very informative and full of some of the best photos of the F40 I have ever seen. It's not necessary to allow harmless banter to escalate to a level where it begins to detract from the focus of the thread. You guys should sort out your differences in PMs so the rest of us can enjoy the thread without having to endure non-related useless posts.
Why - did you have to throw this out there? I dont know why you feel compelled to take these proverbial pot shots. I really enjoy this thread but find these personal attacks to be tiring - just my point of view.
Well I really enjoy coming to this thread every so often and seeing what is up. I think Joe has done a great job with the information and the photos posted on this thread. No need to attack him, if you don't like the thread just don't look at it.
