Shinja Nakano came off his Kawasaki bike at 300km/h during the 2004 Italian MotoGP, after a tyre failure. he tumbled for quite a distance, but didn't hit the barrier, fortunately... :)

Massa went head on into a tyre barrier at 290km/h during the 2005 Canadian F1 Grand Prix in his Sauber.

Ralf Schumacher went into the concrete backwards at Indianapolis in '05 at 290km/h.

It's happened more than you think, and very survivable in the right environment.

I believe they clocked this guy at 200 mph before he crash, Erickson walked away unharmed.
Schumacher was going pretty fast when he hit the wall at Silverstone, same with Senna at Imola, and Kimi at Monza this week.
NASCAR does it alot and survive. Indy on the other hand isn't so great, if your going a buck eighty and hit the wall, it doesn't look so good.
Alex Zanardi comes to mind, he got t-boned pretty fast and survived.

Ok, this is why I asked this question... Now dont get me wrong, i will be the first to say Fusk Kimi and Ferrari so this is not a bias post.

Kimi crashed a day before the race, and from the on board camera, it looked pretty hard. I would post the youtube video but it seems like F1 already got their fingers in it. This is what is said.

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Formula One Management"

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=kimi+monza&search=Search&session=_QARwKdxj0ZDbxc8UwBQALs3ANCcMUAfffz_7i8cl01zAfhliBkXgMLs7IAqIqQrPQqYso_nLzjlXL_6iky602Qk-5_0NPJUD6v1Q-5N3itlntpqJolpBNOdwtjPUlpDeNQxUkkRAOa43_Wwbf-WUtB3AJzWATJwU2fmpzrwpc0dsOEEl6rXIo7r0KDsuqLgbXsGpoxkLTAidKXHO3K9XIbWfVSpI4CRjz0vI5UTdL00KjNh0f9jHKQ8ZK16ME5H

Anyway, Everyone was yelling and screaming that Kimi dropped the ball and he was sleeping...blah blah blah.... He hit the wall at 300+ kilos. And raced the next day... and got 3rd... with what looks like a really messed up neck. So, from all the people who were calling him a looser cause "got caught sleeping" i was wondering if they spoke from experience? Was Kimi supposed to just walk away and go win a race the next day?

*takes flame suit off and throws it away* I am serious.

    Thoughts?

And I personally think it is the bad paint job that is throwing the Ferrari's off...

i injured my neck yesterday while doing some weightlifting. hurts like hell now. i can only imagine the force that's on Kimi's neck that day.

btws, he took some painkillers and he's 100% fit for the next gp.

Lets see what I can think of besides the already meantioned crashes...
    1. Dario Franchitti came into contact with another car and flipped at about 212mph at Michigan International Speedway at the Indy race there this year. He was fine.
I have seen numerous oval racing events where that crash easily above 300, from IndyPro to Nextel Cup, basically every series that can go that fast. Yes, it happens more than you think. However, Kimi did not hit the barrier at 300 at Monza.

I saw this today in the Times, and thought I would post it here, instead of starting a new thread.

In the crash that almost killed Richard Hammond, the "Hamster," a nail in the tire that failed , was the the likely cause. Here's a bit more about it, and us Jeremy Clarkson fans, can link off the story to another world!
