This sort of paint wear/burn is quite common on aircraft. It is another story to see it on a street legal automobile, considering the operational velocities are "normally" in large contrast................... apparently in this exemplar.... lies an exception :D :D!!

High speed testing on banking is very instructive. It tells you how your areo is and subjects the car to huge G forces. Note how the forces are tilting the car into the high side. The forces at 200 mph (the limit of that track) were so high they took out all suspention travel and when the car hit a bump pushed body into the left rear tire actually cutting a groove into it.

You can't lift on the banking. On one lap a fox started to cross the track. I was heading towards him at very high speed. It looked like he would just clear so I hung on. He was slightly above me when I passed. The hole in the air the car left sent him flying over the Armco.

We did hundreds of mile of track testing that day. We had to refuel twice. That evening we drove her into Paris in rush hour traffic for dinner.

Had to chime in on the GT40 talk. Made me think of Dan Gurney, my hero back then, and when I met him at Green Valley Raceway when he and Parnelli were racing team Cougars. The new GT is definately bigger than the original, but smaller than you might think. Here it is next to a few others. Any recent pics of your GT40 Jim? Back to the P 4/5.

    Jim,

As you know I have been off the air here, I didnt go to Concorso/Pebble Beach this year, after spending 5 months in Hotel rooms in Germany I dont think I'll ever look at hotels the same way. Yuck!!! I did think of you and alot of my friends there.

Anyways its been just over a year now and I was wondering how many miles have you driven her?

Hope you have been well and your family is good.

    kindest regards

    Hey

Glad to hear from you! I agree about hotel rooms. When I was directing films I spent over 200 nights a year in them. All is well and I'm glad you're feeling better. We just did a 4K service and she should be home soon.

    Jim,

Not sure if this has been covered in this thread or not ( it's pretty time consuming to filter through 213 pages), but I've been wondering: Do you have the design of your car licensed? Say someone wants their Enzo rebodied exactly like yours, maybe a different color, could they do it? Just a hypothetical question.

He's stamped the blue-prints with a big 'G' ... ... This is what they say on the streets anyway, but Mr. Jim owns all the rights. She's a one off car and a one off she will stay! :)

Testing really helps you learn what still needs work. The Historic Targa Florio was a great test as well and we learned a lot. We'll be final testing her this week and then she'll be heading home.
