Hmm will do that on monday, apparently one of the requirements was some private banking experience for two years, in lieu CFA level 1....hmm i guess your original suggestion was better after all....will poke around somemore :)

Agree with Lung. To add to this, it depends on what area of banking one wants to get into. In the field of structured commodity finance, a CFA or an MBA does not necessarily add anything to a CV that I may be looking at. I need people with real life work experience or someone young and hungry to learn- internships help far more on a CV in that respect than an MBA for example. I even feel that someone with an MBA for instance may expect too much out of the job early on because of his or her "additional" qualifications over someone else without them- and that attitude may hamper their on the job learning and hunger to learn (they may feel that they have a right to "fast track" over someone else without the additional qualifications. Real life on the job experience is far more important to me than additional letters after their name

having said that, would you say all things being equal, comparing 2 candidates with equal abilities and hunger, same attitude n aptitude, would the one with a MBA/CFA get a better chance of being hired/promoted??

Actually, a Masters in Financial Engineering is something one could also consider. I believe NTU offers it.

    ¥7.9mm = sgd103,763. so price here should be circa sgd270mm - sgd103,763 x 2.37(inc. taxes) + 18,000(coe) + 5,000(shipping). buuuyyy! :D

if they were the same, qualification is moot. when i am hiring a quant, for instance, i set the questions and get hr to administer the test on each batch of candidates. whoever answers the questions most accurately, concisely and elegantly gets the job regardless of her qualifications. i learnt it the hard way in my early days as a manager when i hired candidates who had the strongest credentials on paper, were the smoothest and spoke with utmost conviction at interviews but fell flat on their faces when the tire met the road at work. painful. messy. gory for everyone. had to waste time managing them out.

my personal preference is to set a minimum acceptable standard eg bachelors with 2i and above plus 3 yrs experience etc etc, then shortlist base on their addresses. those staying at district 9 and 10...auto eliminated!! i want young ad HUNGRY, preferably poor with loads of debt!!! my last 3 hires, include a 40 yr divorcee with spouse maintenace order and one with a medical health challenged dad with huge medical bils to pay. so far, they are working out!!

Thats interesting.. about 8 years ago I hired two who were off the beaten track.. one was an encyclopedia sales person at shopping center atriums and the other sold furniture at Fu Lu Shao Building. The two were the two most competitive sales staff I had ever had.. worked really hard, made lots of money....BUT!!!
They started back stabbing other staff, stealing accounts, solo artistes, non team players, etc. It became so bad I had to transfer them out.
I guess at the end of the day there's gotta be a balance between hunger and an individuals character.
