Good choice. Pay up for a decent one and make sure you get a good PPI. Many of the cars have been neglected as the value fell and will be a nightmare. Good luck on your search. I don't know that market too well

 

Ferraris in HK neglected, or just the 456 in particular?

 

I don't think for a minute that most cars are neglected in HK let alone Ferraris. However, what some dealers do is very questionable.

 

My comment clearly only related to 456's which fell badly out of favour for a while and are now enjoying a small comeback. If you saw what happened in some back street garages you would be scared. It can cost a lot to sort out the car afterwards

 

So is IMSS really considered to eb the best place to get a Ferrari serviced in HK? This would have to be a first to have the dealer being more highly rated than an independent!

 

Your comment is not in keeping with my experiences. I have Ferraris serviced at dealers and independents in Hong Kong and elsewhere. Except for a very small number of independents (all in Europe or UK) regarding classic cars, I find the dealers are the best. They have the equipment and the training. Would you let an independent touch a 599 - warranty issues aside? You would have to be mad. IMSS do a great job at both facilities. I presently have 5 Ferraris in HK ranging from a Daytona to a 599 and I am absolutely happy with IMSS. There is no independent in HK that is even close IMO

 

Certainly is a first for me across many, many marques and countries!

I've never let a dealer touch any of my cars - I've even paid over $60,000HKD once to get an issue solved on a Volkswagen so the dealer couldn't get their grubby little mits on it - just out of principle. Will take me a while to be comfortable with dealer service.

Can't help my friend. I am not a big fan of Lambos and I do all of my Ferrari servicing at the official agent IMSS.

I have not used SPS myself but they certainly appear capable. Fantastic shop, AAA client list and good success in racing. I have every reason to believe that they are good but you are better to get an opinion from someone with actual experience

I was in a back street garage today and I saw a car under a cover. Pulled it back for a peek and it was a heavily crashed 456. I repeat my comments in my earlier post to buy a car where you have some confidence in the service history

 

IMSS is probably the best dealership in HK. Service is top notch and they will make sure all issues are resolved. In addition, their service pricing is extremely fair compared to all the other makers. Don't even consider sending a Ferrari to one of those chop shops.

Point being to understand the basis of your view that IMSS is the best dealership in HK. You did not indicate the breadth of your experience. You have not dealt with Jebson, the other serious contender. I agree with your conclusion and was simply wanting to understand your perspective. I have had no dealings with RR, Lexus, Audi and Peugeot. I have had dealings with Porsche and Bentley. Neither of us have had dealings with Lambo, AM, Lotus

 

Point taken. I personally have not dealt with Jebsen and AM (practically same group) but know quite a number who have. Most of the feedback I hear is that cost is on the high side and turnaround is on the slow side. It could be just an anomaly though.

 

My experience with Porsche is that there can be a long delay in booking an appointment. There seem to be too many cars on the road for the service capability. I believe that this problem will be resolved in 2008 when Porsche Cheung Sha Wan moves to a much bigger facility in Kowloon Bay. However once the car is with the service centre the turnaround is pretty fast and the quality of the work is excellent. It is extremely rare that I have to take a car back a second time. The costs are acceptable. Ferrari is a bit the opposite. You take a car in easily and quickly and then wait forever for a part if the part is not in stock. My first 599 was in IMSS for months waiting for a TFT. That would not happen in Porsche. The problem is not with IMSS, it is with Italy
