After driving my car home from Indianapolis last weekend, it spent a week at the local shop (Competizione). It got it’s Maryland safety inspection, got new tires and an alignment, and got the exhaust heat shields reinstalled. On Saturday, I picked it up and (finally) brought it home.

There is always some good eye candy at Competizione. My wife fell in love with the F40 – until I told her how much it would cost. This is the same shop where Eric B. is having his valves redone, so I took a couple of shots of Eric’s engine, since I know he misses it.

Yeah, Baby! That's a great look to have the SS with 360 wheels (you need the 3M shields on your front fog lights, by the way!).

But man, if your wife ever hits her head on your lift while getting into her Miata...

You sure got yourself a nice birthdaypresent.

    How much was the F40.

Saw one at Maranello in Egham, London last year and it costed something like 150 000 GBP which is equal 300 000 USD.

Here in Swden there is one for sale also however I think that one is 350 000 USD.

My wife liked the seats with the red safety belts................can you believe that?????

The car looks amazing. By the way, how hard/much was it to install the high-lift garage door? I'm thinking of having the same thing done in my garage.

Eric, I'm sure he and Fernando will get it back together in time. I don't think I can make the Baltimore event. If I go, it will just be as a spectator I think...

BTW, you had asked about the fire extinguisher. Upon further investigation, the extinguisher bracked is not bolted in. It's just attached to the seat adjustment bar using zip ties, so I didn't bother with a picture...

ND, what are the 3M shields? I had searched this forum (and the internet in general) and didn't see any 348 specific protective film for the fog lights. I was planning to order some sheets of Lamin-X 40mil to protect them.

My wife's a pretty good sport -- she's the one who encouraged me to go for it with the Ferrari, and it was also her idea to get the lift and stack the cars. So far she hasn't hit her head, but she promised me that if she did, there would be no repercussions!

The F40 isn't for sale, per se. (Although in that strata, I think everything's probably for sale if the price is right.) Anyway, I was told that the current owner paid ~$450k for it.

Meanwhile, I'm very happy with my birthday present!!

With the high-lift door, there are special tracks that can run up as high as you like. The tracks can also be designed to follow the sloping contour of the roof, if that is necessary/possible. The other thing you need is a "jackshaft" opener. It mounts on the front wall of the garage and operates the door via the torsion bar. By using this type of opener, it leaves the space free directly above the car. Besides that, a standard type of opener won't work because the door has to go up before it can go back. This is the one I got: http://www.liftmaster.com/cw/product_family/0,1064,uid-im16bmJkYmhkZQ==_2427-id-42,00.html

It was easy to install -- all I had to do was write a check, LOL. Price of a new high-lift door installed with the jackshaft opener was about $1400. I had them install a matching standard door in the other bay.

    Okay,

I hate to break this to you but,

I don't think you car is a SS, the seats are totally wrong and the front splitter isn't color coated.

What a beauty and a nice present for yourself.

I love the garage lift and how it looks with the two cars stacked up.

    Great pics. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the welcome messages.

Ernie, I think I'm OK on the SS. Everything checks out as far as VIN/build numbers, badging and the documentation that came with the car. My understanding was that many Speciales were ordered with the stock seats, although I don't know how many. Certainly, I've seen photos of other Speciales on this board with the stock seats. (I wish I had the CF seats, though, if anyone's got a pair they'd like to part with.) I have a receipt from FoW for replacement of the spoiler lip -- I think it looks good in CF.
