Here is a 9-foot long 1964 Aristocrat ' Li'l Loafer ' trailer I purchased yesterday for $600. It's in fairly good shape, but I'll be refurbushing it as a project. I have been starting to look for small trailers, as it seems there is a huge market for these and the old vintage Teardrop trailers such as the Ken Skill brand from the late 50's (New reproductions of these little 8-foot trailers [the teardrops] are fetching $6-$8K!).

Over the last couple of years, I have been seeing LOTS of these small trailers being towed by high-end SUV's, making me think that the rich want these as a cool method for short vacations. Seeing if anyone else owns such a trailer or has interest in the same (Buying cheap ones and remodeling them).

I think I can make $1K go a LONG way for the interior. In primo condition, my guess is that it could sell for about $3K -$4K.

I just moved out of one of those damned things!
I can assure you that the 'rich' do not like them--nor do they want to vacation in one...:)

I'm not much of a road trip kind of guy but could be fun if it's in full service

First off, it's a project thing for me that should be fun and something to get me out of the office! I may use it a few times. Hell I just may keep it! I'm good with woodwork, etc., so I can do a classy job on it.

I live in a hot N. Ca vacation area for summer activities (Winter too). I see a LOT of BMW SUV's (etc.) pulling these small trailers. No ratty ones, either very pricey new retro teardrop's or refurbished old ones like the one I bought. Not that the 'rich' will spend an entire week camping out of them, but I'd assume a fair amount of weekend'ers.

The All aluminum teardrop ones are showing up all over the Hot rod scene. I couldn't believe the prices on them.. It looks like you could make one from sheet metal for less than they were asking.

If I had a flat lot, I would buy about 20 of these, get them in decent shape and rent them to weekenders and 7-10-day vacationers that don't want to pull a trailer from the SF Bay Area to Yosemite or the gold county. They could be all set with food, etc., ready to hitch and go......Hey, that would be a good name............. ' Hitch 'N Go ' !

For the 18' trailer I posted, who can tell me how difficult / time consuming it is to polish out the aluminum. Worth the time?

We had a Silver and Black Teardrop - it formed the nucleus of a small house-sized tent - complete with 2 hallways, mind you. Those present at Bass Lake one particular July 4th weekend will never forget the Hell's Angels or our dog Freckles being chased by hundreds of Hell's Squirrels. I know I won't forget the look on his face as he shot me a furtive glance like "Help" as he fleeted past. Half an hour later, he finally showed up, with a look like "Just hand me a beer, and no, I don't to talk about it either, and neither do you, pal."

Do you know what a divorce and a tornado have in common down in (insert your favorite county name here)?

Somebody's going to lose a trailer.
