Duh.... That's how you steal Ferrari's secrets Mclaren. I'll bet he'll be in the Prodrive F-1 team next year.

    http://www.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/070919150446.shtml

Nigel Stepney, whose alleged actions of sabotage and espionage sparked F1's infamous spying affair this year, has landed a new job, according to reports.

The Briton, fired and now pursued civilly by the Maranello based team and also by criminal prosecutors in Italy, will shortly begin work at Aston Martin in the UK, the Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport reports on Tuesday.

The news, however, was not confirmed by Stepney's Italian lawyer, Sonia Bartolini.

Aston Martin, a luxury car firm, was sold by Ford earlier this year to a consortium led by Prodrive chief and incoming F1 team owner David Richards.

"We are confident we have all the right ingredients to take Aston Martin to even greater heights," he was quoted as saying at the time.

The FIA said in July that Stepney, and his 'Stepney-gate' conspirator Mike Coughlan, would be pursued by the governing body's legal department and possibly banned from international motor sport 'for a lengthy period'.

If I were Prodrive, I'd force him to cover his eyes and hears when near the car.

So Stepney will be working for McLaren-Mercedes afterall, as Prodrive is to be McLaren-Mercedes' customer team in '08. If this turns out to be true and that he does not end up in jail first.

Does anyone know what engine will Prodrive have next year? Is it Mercedes?

Shouldn't be that hard I'd think: Basically in the same way the FIA just handled the espionage case: If somebody comes forward and states that Stepney is working on the team and this is found to be true, Prodrive would be heavily fined. Should be enough a deterrent not to try to tinker with it.

    Funny...

I saw absolutely nothing that said he is going to work for ProDrive. The article said he would be working for Aston Martin. You are aware that the two are separate entities, aren't you?

He's not going to have a job in Formula 1. Although I wouldn't hire someone like him, I'm sure he's quite skilled, otherwise he wouldn't have had such a high rank at Ferrari.

Well, lets see. The owner/founder of Prodrive bought Aston martin. Then from next year Prodrive will be on the grid. What is believed to become official soon is that That same Prodrive team would use a full M/B package which effectively would make them a McCheater customer team.
Hmmm, looks like a loophole that they found.
    So, lets recap.
Stepney (maybe) will be banned from F1 for stealing documents from Ferrari to give them to ML, but will work for A/M whose F1 team is Prodrive who are the McCheater's customers team, who he gave the stolen documents to for which he was banned...
I think that Jerry Springer got nothing on FIA

Like when Nicolas Tombasis goes to Ferrari from Mclaren and brings all sorts of neat zero-keel tricks, right? Oh wait.

In F1, employing your competitor's engineers is the primary way to get information about the other teams. This stuff is basic and every team does it.

The primary reason anyone cares about this move is because he handed over actual company IP to a competitor - which is criminal.

edit: As Senna just pointed out in the following post. It's all moot - two different companies.

You are aware that these are two different organizations with completely different ownership, are you not? The only link between the two is David Richards and he has been on the record repeatedly saying that Aston Martin will not be a part of F1.

I know, I know, this is an inconvenient fact that negates your whole premise but please, don't let me interrupt your stream of consciousness ramblings any further...

Where did I say it wasn't legal??
I was making fun of Mclaren for not hiring him in the first place if he was so pissed at Ferrari. However he was more valuable to them on the INSIDE from march until june of 07. Please read my posts more carefully next time.

It is weird. In the link you provided under "breaking news" it is stated that McCheaters are excluded from both '07 AND '08 championships?
    What is going on?

I read the same news on F-1 live. Makes you wonder why exactly Alonso told Bernie . Was he scared or was he really being a snitch?

The last I read on Prodrive, they were behind on virtually everything for their grand entrance in 08. Then again, how long would it take Dave to camouflage Alonso's current ride ? Probably had it figured before Melbourne...

yes, that is old news even if stating "last 7 days"

there is another link there, about TIMELINE of events, which is interesting....the way totalf1 works, is a series of new window links which sometimes don't copy over correctly to this site...

BUT, the bernie news is interesting.

So McLaren can still win the WCC in '08 even if they're technically not allowed to get an WCC points...because they'll just win the WCC under the name of ProDrive. lol
