Marcels back?! maybe i missed it but Great info
Not a 288 GTO Evoluzione, but a "lookalike" built on a 328 chassis (s/n 62957). This car has been in the Netherlands for quite some years and, I assume, still stored at Munsterhuis.
I love the way they just went ahead and bolted that license plate onto the rear panel of the Saudi 288 GTO. LOL. Joe www.joesackey.com
I understand that several of the so-called Evoluziones are not really what they are dressed up to be..... RTB has the real thing though. Joe www.joesackey.com
I wondered where that car went. I saw it some 15 years ago for sale at "De automuseum Bergeyk" and went to see it. Very impressive with longitudinal engine, turbos intercoolers, cage and everything. Only the bodywork was very wavy and plastic like but probably the original evolutione was the same. Price was about 125000 dutch guilders, 57000 euro today without correction for inflation. Must been way below the build costs. Car was probably build by infamous Jim Carpenter Arizona because he did a few, I believe the moulds went here: http://www.italianauto.com/index.html there is still a small picture of a evolutione on that page. Today a fellow F-chatter has the moulds and is inquiring for parts and ideas here because he wants to build another Evolutione replica.
I just re-read the section about Lauda in the GTO book by Llewandowski, just because the book cost me $300 doesn't mean that the information must be true though. It is said Lauda in the 70's he had a contract to drive Fiat products but never did. Later he did promotional work for Fiat and drove 1 round in the Fiat Uno turbo challange and became second amongst all young starting racers. It was thought he deserved a fitting reward and didn't want money and a Testarossa was to common for him, he wanted a GTO and it was decided that they build an extra one. First only 200 were to be made, high demand (nearly all the F1 drivers wanted one) did them decide to build 70 more, then the Lauda car was an extra beyond those. Just because they decided to build 271 instead of 270 for Lauda doesn't of course mean he got the nr. 271 build, like Mr Massini already said. Then later they build another example for an american customer (from spare parts I read somewhere), mr Massini also mentioned this.

A Dutch GTO, first registered (in the Netherlands) May 3 1985, with the current owner since 1996 and due for safety inspection in november, that means the car is probably driven on the road because it has a valid (not expired) dutch safety inspection "APK" Pictures (c) Autovisie Datum eerste afgifte Nederland 03-05-1985 Datum eerste toelating 03-05-1985 Datum aanvang tenaamstelling 25-03-1996 Vervaldatum APK 03-11-2007 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Scanned from the box of Fujimi 1:16 GTO plastic model kit. I have 2 unbuild but I'm afraid I'll spoil them if I try to build them, I have no patience for that. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Would you have thought it is a replica? When the Swiss do something, they do it right (even if it is wrong, some will say here). Image Unavailable, Please Login
