355 engine whistle

Mine does the same. Forget exactly what it is but it is normal.

Gas tank pressure? Or perhaps air injection for cats? Just 2 guesses.

 

My 99 does the same thing. I think it is smog related, some sort or air injection pump.

 

It is the air injection pump, all 355's I have driven have had this sound.

It is the secondary air injection pump, all cars do it, some just hide it better. If it gets to loud, your ports may be getting clogged and the pump will burn out. Pump is cheap, same as on most German cars easy to get.

 

Really? Care to share a cross referrence? This subject was tackled a few weeks ago, and a suitable sub was not found.

 

Agreed, air injection pump. You should hear my 348 - it growls until it warms up. Wish I could keep that cool sound tho.

 

I will double check the 355 pt #, I know of the top of my head the 360 has the same pump as a ML320/430 Benz, When I get to the shop in the mornig I will check a 355 and make sure its the same.
Most injection/ignition/obd2 stuff of Ferrari's can be found on other cars.

 

I recently replaced my air pump, and it was not the same as a 360. I did find some others out there for other cars that were close, but no plug-n-play drop ins. I ended up going with a used 355 one I tracked down and it works fine.
