Here the deal..... I have a chance to get a US spec 2001 F360 Spyder with 40k miles for $100K. The car has all the maintance records and the belts were changed less than 2 years ago. The front bumper was resprayed, but other than that, no paintwork or bodywork. So, I'll throw the question to the collective wisdom of the FChat forum... What do you think...Great Deal? Too many miles? Am I crazy???
That sounds almost too good. Have you laid eyes on the car, driven it, had it checked out by a pro? Front bumper spray is no big deal. I'd dig a little before I got too excited, unless he's your buddy and needs the mula, or something like that. Otherwise sounds pretty good.
I will sound contrary when saying this, but why spend $100,000 on any car with 40,000 miles on it? For that money you can buy a new Porsche, Z-06, BMW 7 series, with 4-5 years of warranty etc. If you must have a Ferrari, give up the Spider and buy a coupe with 5,000 miles for close to that. Best
It's a car, cars run WAY longer than 40k. If it's in good shape, why not, especially if he plans to drive the car a lot.
Sounds like a good driver to me....... If that car has a clean title and carfax, given the fact that it already has a lot of miles on it by F-Car standards, a car like that can be driven 20+K miles over the next couple years and return most of the $$. Plus, you can't beat a drop top!
I agree that 40k is no big deal, unless you want a garage queen. I would dig a bit because it is a little low at $100k. Be sure to get a leak down test. It will tell you what is lurking. If it checks out, go for it. It is great fun
A BMW 7 series or a Ferrari 360 Spider? Hmmm... I do agree the ultra-low mileage Modena would be tempting. Depreciation on the Spider wouldn't be too bad, though. Is the Spider F1? Manual? Red? Metallic brown? ...
That seems like a VERY low price for a 2001 360 Spider. I'm with Bullfighter; I want to know more details on the car. Also condition of the rest of the paint and interior. The mileage doesn't really concern me if the maintenance is really up to date. If it's all up to spec (and not metallic brown! ) I'd snatch it up at that price.
The good thing you have going for you is minimal depreciation on the car. At $100k the car will always bring around that, with 40k miles, or 45k. That being said, if you drop $160k on a 5k mile car and rack up the miles to 10k, you are suddenly in a different "bracket" for miles and you will lose $$$$ This is a great deal for the person who wants to put 10k miles a year on the car because you won't lose much more in value, especially compared to buying a low-mileage car and racking it up!
Is this the car you are looking at?? If not, here is another choice, at the same price, for you.. shoot me a pm ( When my subscription kicks in again, paid tonight) and Ill tell you the source.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Williws your pm box is full. I will take one for 100k. I really don't care about the miles as long as the service is done. I plan on driving mine daily and up and down the east coast, putting on lots of miles.
Yes, that's the car. It's a 6 speed and comes with either those wheels or the stock wheels. I'm very close to pulling the trigger.
After passing a PPI and the leak test at a Ferrari dealer or someone I know and trust, I would likly buy it. (But only if it were red!!!)
Well, for $100K, even if you DO sink another 20 in it, it's still a great deal. Unless people are thinking teh market for early, higher-mileage spiders has hit 120K, which I don't think it has. Even for a very high mile car like this one. Unless it's in Dubai and has a blue/yellow interior.
Actually an 02 spider with 18k miles went for $130k on Ebay last week (I was tempted but I didn't think it would sell for that low). Not sure if there is a "story" but it's perhaps indicative of a slight softening, and the rain in the Bay Area today reminded me that Fall is upon us too, which doesn't help that market http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NO-RESERVE-360-SPIDER-DAYTONAS-CHALLENGE-BRAKES-NAV-WOW_W0QQitemZ160156424399QQihZ006QQcategoryZ84156QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Is it just me or does the seam seem off on the center of the front bumper? If not, someone got a great deal on that one with all those options.
Strange, one pic looks like that, the other one not so clear. Wonder if it was the light? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The price is low (suggesting future work). I have seen coupes with 5,000 miles selling within $5,000 of the price. Would you pay $100,000 for a 40,000 rather than 5,000 mile Ferrari? Downside depreciation is minimal in both cases. If the buyer must have a spider, it is a good price, predicated upon a PPI confirming all is well, and records are in tact. Best
Of course...."no bodywork or paint".....but it was stolen/recovered, so that's the reason it has a salvaged title. We've all heard this song. Maybe it's "divorce forces quick sale", or wife's getting revenge by selling husbands car super-cheap....or maybe extravagant millionaire wants to make room for his new Enzo. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Who doesn't want a fair price for what they are selling? Last I looked, an '02 spider w/40k miles and all work done is still worth quite a bit more then $100k. You get what you pay for. On rare occassion we all stumble onto a steal, but still....I remain skeptical. Oh...and the 7-series BMW or Porsche instead of the Ferrari? A Ferrari is still a Ferrari....you'll buy the Ferrari and not think twice about the BMW. You buy the BMW and you'll find yourself rationalizing and second-guessing every time a Ferrari passes you humming the exotic note. Best of luck
If the car has a clean title, not previous salvage, it's a bargain. Nine months ago I sold a '99 euro Modena with a clean title, but with paint work for about $90,000. Take the stock wheels. Best.
I got that a TON when I bought my Ferrari. "$80,000 for a ferrari? You could have had a NEW Porsch or a BMW or a Corvett!" True. Then I would have had one of the miriad corvetts or Porschs or BMWs I see every day instead of the only other Ferrari in the county.
