Cool. Why don't they just provide each team with a spec chassis........and bodywork, brakes, suspension. Even tools, uniforms and transporters should be spec.
Then, allow each team to choose either a 1 cylinder diesel or solar powered elec motor.
Better yet, just have the drivers compete on a giant video monitor with game controllers. Absolutely no money wasted on r&d at all. In fact, they could compete from their own homes over the internet!
No transportation costs, no materials costs, no employees no nothin'. Yeah, this gets better all the time.

I don't know where I got this idea, but I always thought that F1 was called Formula 1 because it was supposed to be the very best available in the automotive technology and driver talent. Therefore there should be no limits to innovation. Hey, if one team figures out how to make their engine last two races at 21 000 RPM then they got the right formula(#1). Inevitably the rest of the field would follow, and if they can not afford it then they don't belong there. They are all crying for costs and mean wile all their principles have spent more on their vacations that what the budget of their team is.

Indeed, but not to be quite so extreme... I've loved F-1 ever since I was tall enough to reach the tuner dial on the TV set, but haven't we all had enough of this wanker? I truly hate that for every dollar which I throw in to support the sport --- at least 10 cents of it goes into that miserable, greedy, charlatan's pocket!!!!

And you can throw Ecclestone (sp?) in the trash as well for free ---- and good riddance to bad rubbish...

And then, finally, we could have a Grand Prix in Montreal, Watkins Glen, St. Louis, Manitoba, Ketchikan, Redding, Medford, Central Point, Tualatin, Victoria, Vancouver (BC), Vancouver (WA), Tustin, Compton, Las Vegas, Huntsville, Prince Albert, Charlotte, Humptulips, Omak, Kalispel, Red Deer, Deer Lodge, Cody (WY), Anaheim, Vichy, Los Angeles, Tierra del Fuego, Madras, Kabul, Duluth, Bangalore, Rabat, Marrakesh, Fez, Portland (OR), Portland (ME), The Dalles, and Burien -- all in one week, and Bernie wouldn't ever have to complain again about not being able to get a good steak in Indianapolis.

The funny thing is that it's not the "real" manufacturing teams that are crying about costs ... other than the costs FIA charges. ;)

It's not what you spend on the cars ---- it's what you get for the money.

Disc brakes, traction control, sequential gearboxes, even a lot of safety equipment got into production cars after being developed and "wrung out" on the track.

Never trust a sports car with no racing heritage.

    One word.....GREED.

Sorry, but no matter what they do, the team that invests the most WISELY will win. If you freeze one thing or things, teams that want to win will put their money on the other. In this case, they will put their money where it can be seen.

Correction - KILLED FORMULA ONE a long time ago. I think true F-1 died in 1994, with Ayrton Senna. the cars were never the same all this v-10 crap, all the aero cause there is no where else to gain speed... F-1 really sucks! I really dont know anymore why I even watch it...I guess I'm trying to be loyal to a sport that I've been following for 40 years.

Mosely could care less about any fans, TV etc... its all about Money, Money, Money... His demise could not come sooner... as well as Ecclestone... he's the other culprit for the destruction of F-1.

Formula One used to be the pinnicle of Racing... when you saw an F-1 car in person it was really something to behold... today they are so small and thin, they look like a spec racer... 2.8 liter... the engine in my 328 is bigger! how sexey is a V-8? back in the 60's they had 16, 12, 8, & 6cyl... all competing togehter... in the 80's you had normally aspriated & turbo... lots of cool technology... today its all about aero... I say today give them 2 wings, totally flat upper and lower body, no diffusers, min size cooling opening as well as cockpit... bigger engines, up to 18cyl... 3liter... turbo, supercharge etc.. to 1.5, and slick tires, with carbon ceramic brakes....telemetry, traction control, abs, active suspension etc.... make them wide and low! and stipulate that all the cars movements have to be controlled by an onboard driver....that will make for some good racing.

They already have that. It is called GP2. Why would another series be necessary?

Not to mention the possibility of mandating the software package - so as to "even things out" and make it easier to regulate the spooky world of driver assistance features.

I just loved that link from the leading post here which said that although many teams want to push back the "energy recovery devices" until 2011 or later, that this is the ONE THING of new technology which Mosley strongly favors. Thinks it will give F1 a squeaky clean image to the Euro green fans.

Sounds a bit like the old CanAm rules. Must have Four tires covered with fenders. Engine, body, chassis materials, fuel, and displacement were all open. All was fine until Porsche got there with the 917K30.......
