........of the WDC. He felt that if the team gained a benefit, so did the drivers.

...and if the actions of one team member is the responsibility of the team, then shouldn't the actions of the team effect all team members?

I totally agree...and now the rest of the drivers should follow...

As the dust settles on McLaren/Ferrari dispute and the FIA's decision, the real thrashing amongst the teams and drivers, and not to forget the Sponsors MONEY, is starting for the 2008 season. This will be interesting...

I would think every reasonable person would agree with this.

Those who feel the drivers gained no benefit more than likely feel the same way about McLaren as a team, and probably do not feel McLaren's punishment was appropriate either...

to me it comes down to if the car has been determined to be illegal (which it has), how can drivers be rewarded for participating in an illegal car?

Why should Alonso even be in this championship based on the FIA Evidence? Although I feel he is a great driver, he should be out of this championship, regardless if the Ferrari info was beneficial, he asked question about the competitions car through devious sources. He should be out of this one. IMHO either Kimi or Massa should be racing for the WDC at this point.

I think the issue is that the team was found IN POSSESSION of the information and as of yet there is no hard proof that it was used to their benefit. This has led to the current issue where Max wants to "pre-inspect" McLaren's '08 car. Since there is no proof that the information was used (which we all know is b.s.) the FIA is taking the position that they could (in their minds) only penalize the team for possession and nothing else. They figure that they couldn't penalize the drivers unless they had HARD PROOF that the cars were improved because of the information. We all know the information hurt Ferrari (the flexi floor) and thus improved McLaren's position but again ... it wasn't design information that improved the McLaren, rather, it was confidential information that hurt Ferrari. Again ... lots of politics involved ...

As for Alonso and his personal shananigans ... I'm sure this goes on in all the teams in one form or another. However, that doesn't make it right and since he openly admitted to having these conversations and implicated both himself and his team ... I think his championship hopes should have been dashed as well.

If a driver has any "ANY" information wheter it is benefical or not about a competitors car, he should IMHO be immediate grounds to have them thrown out of the WDC.

Why? It is ok to be asking the Test Driver questions about what the competitions car is doing, knowing it is coming from a Ferrari Employee with an axe to grind? That is ok with you? This ***** should have been thrown out, what is so hard to understand?

What did I say that was different, I did not edit my post... I think that Alonso is a great driver, but I think he is a jerk for asking DeLaRosa questions about the Ferrari that DeLaRosa got from Mike C who got it from Stepney. I think that is wrong. I always thought that Alonso was a great driver, and still do, my problem was the fact that he would want info from a competitors car knowing it was wrong... Do you think that would be ok?

Ummm, you said that a driver should be banned for knowing anything about an opposing teams car. Like if it has four wheels. Honestly, there is a huge amount of stuff that a driver knows about other cars simply by racing against them on the track - where they are quick or not. Good braking, torque off the line, curb navigating, etc...

You now what is funny? The publicity and hoopla this whole story has generated is like the movie of the year. It would make any oscar laughable if this whole thing was scripted from the get go a la WWF. Max and Bernie are probably already working on the script for 2008. The whole thing is making me sick and I am about to loose interest in F1, unless they do something to make it really look like a racingSPORT.
