Hey Guys, I need your help. I am looking at buying this 1992 Yellow Diablo at Marshall Goldman in Ohio. (ebay Item number: 160163084377) I am the current high bidder on ebay and think it would be cool to pick up an early clean Diablo. The buy it now if $118,900 which seems high for the car but it does look clean. Looks like Marshall Goodman picked it up off ebay from Kip Seward Motorsport (ebay item number: 130155185215 ) who had it on ebay a few weeks ago with a $100k opening bid and no reserve, but it sold outside of ebay so I dont know what they paid for it but I sent an email to Kip so I will see if he replies. Of course if it works out I will do the usual PPI and make sure the clutch is good. Marshall Goodman seems to have a pretty good reputatin from what I can tell. Any ideas on the right price to pay? Things to look for etc...? Thanks in Advance! Brad Image Unavailable, Please Login
I bought a Ferrari from Marshall Goldman a few years back, no problems. I would definitely ask why there is no mention of service history, etc. on a $118K car......Books, tools, are also not in the photos. I would hesitate to do the "Buy It Now" without at least knowing when it was last serviced. With that said, the miles are right, and if it needs nothing to be driven home, I would say $110K would be a great buy. $100K as is without any documentation. Just my 2 cents.
almost makes the black 95 Vt we have at 104,888 delivered look like an even better deal !!! Marshall Goldman is a pretty good dealer...never had any issues with them. If you need help doing your due diligence or even negotiating the deal, just let us know...we've done quite a bit of business with them. Kevin Cats Exotics 425-353-2287
Brad, Kip Seward is out of the Detroit are. My father has worked with him a few times and is a stand up guy as far as I know. FWIW, the BIN price seems a bit high. However, it does look like a nice car. I think Kip had it in stock for a while as I recall. Keep in mind the 1992's did not have power steering, etc. but there are those that realy like the early Diablos. They are a bit lighter and not as much to go wrong as on the older models. Steve
The clutch The clutch The clutch Check the condition of the clutch Has the chain tensioner been updated ? - Make sure the chain tensioner has been updated. ________ I like the early 2wd Diablo autos. The brakes are not the best. The car has a stiff clutch, and takes a lot of effort to shift and turn the car at slow speeds. At fun speeds, it all begins to make sense. The early Diablo autos (almost all Diablo autos), are all fully depreciated. - You simply pay for maintainance. The early cars do not have a shock lifting system (a good thing not to have), and are generally lighter than the later cars. Look into bolting the seat directly to the floor. You may gain another inch. Another approach is to look into a very thin aftermarket seat. At or around six figures, they should have maintainance records. Good luck with your search.
Brad, Stephane is right w/ his assessment. Ralph provided good advice about the clutch. If all is right, I would put the value for this car at around $100k but no more. The yellow color is a tad premium. There is a 93 black on back on Ebay w/ less than 9k that you can pick it up for mid 90's. I know that car personally as it came from MCI about couple of years ago.....The new owner didn't put a lot of miles on it. It's a 9.5 out of 10 car, a GREAT CAR (when I inspected it).
is it just me or does that pic shown look like a toy car ? (sorry to go off topic) looks stunning in the other pics on ebay though - good luck if you buy it.
Hey Guys, I am in touch with them on the car and they are getting me the records and history tomorrow morning. They tell me the car is "that nice" but I take it with a grain of salt. Any good ideas for a PPI in the Cleveland area? Brad
Something is strange with those pics. They have been photoshopped. Go to the site and look. The shadow under the car has been P-chopped and in the picture of the rear of the car, the right side exhause tips have been P-chopped out for some reason. The car looks great, but something is rotten in Denmark. Buyer beware. I would not send them a dollar with out a PPI and seeing it in person. Look at the underside shadow of the car. That's for sure been P-chopped. That exhaust tip has been Pshopped for sure too. There's not a black "blob" like that anywhere else on the garage floor. I have seen enough shadows in my life to know they are not pixle shaped and patchy. Like I said, the pics look great. But to me, something is rotten in Denmark and I would not send these folks a dime without personally looking at the car or haveing someone with no financial interest in the deal looking at it. There's only 1 reason to Pshop. And that's to hide flaws. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the observation. PPI for sure and I wont pay $118K for it. I am thinking more like $105-110K if it is perfect. Here are all of the pictures (the first set is when Kip Sheward had it on ebay and the second set is from the Marshall Goldman site). It appears to me that the exhaust tips in the Marshall Goldman pics are black and just hard to see. Any others with a sharp eye see anything. This isn't the yellow Lambo that had a dead "hip-hop" record 'executive' from Florida displayed in it for 3 days during his wake, is it? Seems he was shot in the head 5 times (yeah, 5 times!) at his barber shop......I saw pictures of the guy in the car dressed like some 'Blood'/'Crips' look-a-like with a bunch of baggy sports team wear clothes. His car HAD been 'up-dated' with 20" rims (drivetrain warranty got voided there). The rims could have been done back to "stock" as well as the interior & seats.....I'll see if I can find the dead guy Lambo picture & VIN to see if it matches.....
Opps, my bad. It was a Murci, not a Diablo: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75210&highlight=Lambo+funeral&page=2 Oh yeah, "hip-hop record executive" is spelled d-r-u-g d-e-a-l-e-r!
I will find out tomorrow morning. Still looking for the best place to do the PPI in the Cleveland area. I emailed Evans in Columbus but thats 142 miles away. Depending on what I find out tomorrow I may jump on a plane friday and go look at it. I will let you know how it goes, from everyone I have talked too Marshall Goldman seem to have a pretty good reputation although the photoshop stuff is a bit strange. Anyone have a carfax account? Vin # is ZA9DU07P1NLA12455 Brad
The Carfax shows no problems, miles are correct, looks like a 2 owner car. Here are some details: A CARFAX Vehicle History Report is based only on information supplied to CARFAX. CARFAX checked over 5 billion vehicle history events and found 4 record(s) for this 1992 LAMBORGHINI DIABLO (ZA9DU07P1NLA12455). Date: Mileage: Source: Comments: 10/23/1995 Michigan Motor Vehicle Dept. Gaylord, MI Title #299F2960216 Title or registration issued 10/14/1997 6,990 Michigan Motor Vehicle Dept. Dear Lamborghinisti, The Marshall Goldman photos and the Kip Seward photos are NOT of the same car. The Kip photos are of a VT, NOT an early diablo. In the Kip photos, note the dash, brembo brakes and VT front end ( brake ducts incorporated in the fog / flash lights ) If this is being spoken of the same car...Hmmmmm. .........If it is for reference purposes.....yeah right ! I don't know what's going on here. BTW, I have a VT Roadster. Some issues not mentioned for the earlier (91 -93 ) Diablo are: Bad Ground problems Wiring issues Pinion shaft breakage Some Clutch Rod Linkage Issue Early OBD diagnostics (96 + has OBD II ) All year Diablos have their issues + / - ......like any hot woman, name one that doesn't have some issues Since I was searching accross the spectrum, I thought I would point these out. Good luck in the quest ! I just love my Roadster. In fact, I'm kinda hunting for a coupe to keep it company. Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
Hey Shamile, Thanks for the post. I am not sure I see what you are pointing out. I am the one who assumed the Kip Sheward lambo and the Marshall Goldman Lambo are the same one as it was on ebay a few weeks before Marshall Goldman had it on and they were both listed with the same vin #. Also the carfax has it coming through MI where Kip is located. I dont the see the difference on the front end can you point it out? Brad
Spoke with them this morning. They have no books or records on the car. They say the clutch was done but dont have any documentation. This is the Kip Seward car and they are getting in touch with him to see if he has any of the records. They offered "their" local guy to do the PPI. I said no thanks but I am still looking for a good independent in the Cleveland area to do it. So far Evans automotive is the closest independent I have found but I would have to have the car trucked 140 miles to Columbus to have it done. Any ideas there is appreciated. More to follow... Brad
In my experience, when a seller/dealer states "a said service or a clutch was replaced but have no record", I approach it w/ the assumption that the serviced WASN'T done and clutch WASN'T replaced. tomf-1
