According to Steve Machette of Speedvision it is. Yesterday, Luca also made the self serving comment that the WDC would be tainted. Once and for all, what do you think?
It is tainted, but so what? Time will move on and people will forget. Maybe not on here, but "out there". Many championship titles have been tainted, but in the end only the statistics will be remembered.
That's true. This year should have been the year people were crying that Ferrari won because they had a unfair amount of experiance from their tire manufacture, and the 07 season was unfairly (gifted to them) by ending the tire wars...... didn't quite work-out the way people thought it would If you want a challenge, try finding the years where there was no controversy in the championship. Might be a more interesting test of someone's F1 history. .
I'm sure there are folks on here who would argue 94, 95, 2000-2004. Whereas 2005-7 clearly were tainted.
IMHO, I think both championships are suspect; this weekend if FA is mathematically eliminated I believe he will announce his return to Renault .... This was a HORRIBLE year in F1. I'd put an asterisk in the official FIA record books on both WDC and WCC...
Yea, your right, its much more honorable to win by cheating than to win because cheaters got caught and DQ'd....
I don't get where are you going with this. I guess you are trying to make fun of some here, but a think you don;t understand the thin line between a championship being won by luck or other circumstances and being tainted. About '94 some people can say that Schu cheated at the end. Maybe he did play it not in the most sportsmanship way, I agree, but '95 was all him. 2000 through 2004 Ferrari just dominated and so did Shumi. There was nothing wrong with cleaning the floor with the rest of the teams, except that it was boring as hell. 2005 it went in Renault favor because of the stupid tire rules and because they had a better car. Some of those rules were made specifically to handicap Ferrari as everyone got tired watching them run away with the championship, but this doesn't make the titles tainted in any way. They won fair and square. Even more so in '06. Did Alonshole receive the best gift ever at Suzuka? Absolutely. But it doesn't mean his title was not deserved or tainted. It was fair and square. Hey if Lauda did not pull out of Fuji's race JAmes Hunt wouldn't have been champion but it doesn't make his title tainted. Now about this year it is a totally different story. This whole season has been a joke. You know how the commentators talk about the F1 circus goes here or there, well this year they really made circus clowns out of them selfs. If you make it to the Olimpics you have to be an exceptional athlete. But once there if they found out you are doping, what they do? Fire the team's doc and let you collect your gold medals? I don't thing so. LH's WDC is as tainted as the WCC. What pisses me off the most is that there is a very good chance he could have won it any way but we are never gonna know and same goes for the Ferrari WCC. We all know both teams can (and have) win a title. it is not like Spyker won WCC. And we very much know that all four drivers running were plenty capable. But there is always going to be the huge ? and an asterix would be added to both titles.
Very good post Michael and I think you hit the nail on the head. Both titles are tainted but in a few years time no one will remember or care anyways and F1 will go on.
By your comments on the 2005 and 2006 season I would say that we're on the same page, but that's not true for everybody on here.
Even if the McLaren is really a Ferrari, LH will still beat Alonso, Kimi and Mazza. He deserves the WDC.
That is the whole point. It may be true, but we never got the chance to know it for a fact. I, personally, respectfully disagree. Team him up with Kimi in Ferrari AND THREAT THEM EQUAL and he will get served.
That gives rise to an interesting thought - why would a McLaren incorporating Ferrari ideas be better than the Ferraris they were copying? Must be down to the McLaren bits in the car!
That's true. People despised Prost back when he was racing, now people talk about him along with Senna in a nostalgic and romantic "those were the days" kind of way. Like the saying goes, "time heals all wounds".
I like Prost more than Senna or MS. He was far more sportsmanlike, and won his WDCs through being consistant and getting points almost every race, rather than winning or not finishing...
Well, he did sign a Williams contract based on a veto clause on Senna and Mansell. He later agreed to lift the Mansell veto, but Mansell always said how things were unequal with Prost at Ferrari. I like Prost, but that wasn't a particularly sporting moment.
Both are tainted a little, but the WDC is much more tainted simply because the mclaren guy's shouldn't even be involved. If a ferrari driver had won it would also have been tainted but less IMO.
